Piddington protest over plans to open the centre for asylum seekers

The children of a quiet Oxfordshire village have been forced to put pen to paper and plead with the Prime Minister himself. Their message is simple and heartbreaking: leave our home alone.

Piddington is a tiny English settlement of roughly 350 people—around 250 adults and just 46 children. The Home Office and Labour government under Andy Burnham intend to place 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers on a former Ministry of Defence site that borders the village, runs along the back of homes, and sits directly against the parish playing field and children’s park.

If the plan proceeds, the number of young men dumped on their doorstep will dwarf the entire local population.

Residents previously held a symbolic independence vote after the government announced the scheme with zero meaningful consultation. Weeks later the silence from Downing Street continues, so the children themselves have now spoken.

Seven-year-old Rex Perkin wrote: “Dear Andy, We like our village because I and my family walk down to my sister’s grave to see her. I worry I won’t be able to do that anymore. My family has lived here for over 100 years. I love the playing field in Piddington because I go there every week. Thanks Andy.”

Eleven-year-old Tilly West pleaded: “Please, please, please! This is for the 300-400 people in the village as well as dogs who won’t be able to go sniffing in the bushes as much.”

Nine-year-old Orla West was direct: “I do not like this idea because we love our park. We can walk our dogs. We love Piddington.”

 

Other children echoed the same theme—freedom to play, walk the dog, cycle, and simply be children in the only home they have ever known. Their letters were delivered as adults in the village continue to face a wall of non-response from the government.

 

Parish Council chair Tim McNally has documented the official silence. Fourteen days after an open letter to Burnham, there was still no engagement. “Families are anxious. Questions are growing. And trust is being tested,” he said. “This is bigger than one village. It’s about whether communities like ours still matter when decisions are made.”

The village has opened a fundraising effort and is weighing further democratic steps, including a referendum on self-determination.

Residents describe a place with deep roots and generations of the same families. One mother whose children wrote letters told reporters the scale would leave them “so outnumbered that it would change our lives completely.”

Another parent noted that even the ability of an elderly grandmother to walk home safely at night is now in question.

 

The site itself is a long-abandoned munitions area requiring major infrastructure work, yet the government presses ahead with plans for an open facility where men aged 18-65 can sign in and out at will for a minimum of ten years.

 

McNally has framed the fight as one that now represents more than Piddington. On TalkTV he made clear he feels he is speaking for the country as well as his neighbours.

 

Conservative MP Joy Morrissey addressed the fears of locals, noting “These mothers don’t want their daughters to [be] raped or molested.”

 

The official response remains the familiar boilerplate. Number 10 says community concerns are “central” to its reforms, points to a drop in hotel numbers, and claims it will “consider” the children’s letters.

That is little comfort to a village that has already watched its local voice sidelined, its planning powers stripped from the district council, and its future decided in Whitehall.

Piddington’s children are not asking for special treatment. They are asking to keep the ordinary freedoms that previous generations took for granted—walking their pets, playing on the field, growing up without being outnumbered by a sudden influx of foreign fighting-age men whose presence was never put to a democratic vote.

In a country that still claims to value local communities and the safety of its own children, those letters should be impossible to ignore. The government has so far chosen silence.

    ‘Irish Patriots’ and Ulster loyalists find a shared platform in Northern Ireland: “migrant swamping”
    A summer of discontent over immigration policies was marked by violent protests across Great Britain in August. Parallel protests were organized by ordinary people  in Northern Ireland, and they also descended into violence. Church leaders called on Christians to distance themselves from the demonstrations and strong opposition to the protests quickly emerged, both to the initial march held by anti-immigration activists on Aug. 3 and follow-up protests the next week.
    The protests were sparked initially by a deadly sexual attacks on children in England  by migrants , but they quickly became an expression of widespread grievances among some native-born Irish and British citizens. The protests in Belfast and nearby towns explicitly targeted immigrant communitiesThe initial march was planned to begin outside the city’s Islamic center, but with that path blocked by police, organizers sought out immigrant-run businesses and in the end destroyed two establishments on Belfast’s Donegall Road. Cars were set on fire, and a business on the ground floor of one apartment block was burned out by protesters.
    Over the following days, there were more attacks on police vehicles and on businesses owned by immigrants, including at least one serious assault. But when people on social media planned another anti-immigrant demonstration for Aug. 9,  One of the most troubling details of the social disorder in Northern Ireland was the counterintuitive allegiances that emerged. Loyalist paramilitaries seem to have played a central role in organizing the unrest in Belfast, but it was a surprise on both sides of the northern Irish border when they were joined by self-proclaimed “Irish patriots” from the Republic of Ireland, seen to be shaking hands
    Masked men waving the Union flag shouted racist slogans like ” leave the kids alone “in tandem with another group of masked men waving the Irish tricolor. For those who lived through the decades of the Troubles, when republican and loyalist paramilitary groups waged a low-level but highly destructive civil war, the sight of these figures marching together added a further chilling dimension to  how things have changed
    The people have wised up to governments unsettling views of xenophobic and racist protests against the irish people

    I detest these “villages”, and I live in one of them. What they are is a bunch of rich scum who don’t give a shit until it happens to them. They’re all the same. They’re the “backbone” of british fascism. All of them, every single one, should be subsumed by niggers, rapists, drug dealers, murderers and gays. I’d love to see that. And I want the same thing to happen to the “great british farmers”, who in addition to the above, all think they “own” the land and no one but their filthy “family” is allowed to walk or sit or be there, while they poison the food they “grow” with glysophate. What utter filth the “citizens” are.

    Its a pit these leafy green paradises didn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with we urban English folk who have had to put up with this for 70 odd years. I imagine they and their older generation regarded us urban folks as “racist” etc. and continued voting for the lab-lib-con.

    I can’t necessarily agree with the sentiment of this https://www.ibhm-uk.org/post/revisiting-britain-s-most-racist-election-the-battle-for-smethwick-1964 It does however give some of our history.

    But as a native Smethwickian, we have put up with this shit for over half a century and counting…

    ten years ago of course they were waving refugees welcome banners, kindly donated by george soreass… now they are getting their children to plead with the wanker they’ve shoehorned into number ten.. mr potato head.. the brown envelope man… before they are drugged and bundled into the back of a van and traffiked all over pirate rock..

    Some of the British people may make a noise and wave banners, but none of it will make the slightest difference. Only if the final Rubicon is crossed – all out civil war – will there be the possibility of change. Unfortunately, two World Wars that culled out the best and 70 years of Socialist handout culture that encouraged the dregs to breed mean that the British people don’t have the backbone any more.

    Stronger means than “mere begging” are now called for! Where are the young men who will carry out the required actions?

    They must act alone, or in pairs, understanding that if detected, they will be in big trouble.

    Perhaps the best way to begin would be to “waylay” members of various offending organizations — both public and private — order them to sit down and stay there, while you read them excerpts from some document (your choice).

    Your event must happen in private and unobserved, just as if carrying out a ki-lling, but of course you won’t do any real harm, will you? You just be giving a subversive, criminal traitor “something to think about.”

    One or two like this per month (or week?) should bring results, but if it doesn’t, you may need to tattoo the word “TRAITOR” on the offender’s forehead.

    Try hard to avoid that sort of unpleasantness, though. Behave yourselves bkys and girls!

    Weak governments, in my opinion, are symptomatic of crumbling democracy. Look at Europe and Britain if you doubt. If this continues in the same trajectory they are heading towards dictatorships.
