EU candidate country rejects demands to sanction Russia

Georgia will continue to resist calls to impose sanctions on Russia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Tuesday. Tbilisi previously declined to join Western countries in adopting restrictions on Moscow, citing domestic security concerns.
At a meeting in Brussels with the top EU diplomat, Josep Borrell, Kobakhidze was asked by reporters about Kiev’s demand for “a second front” against Russia.
“These statements were very regrettable,” the PM said. He stressed that Georgia is providing “strong political support” for Ukraine and is sending humanitarian aid to Kiev.
“As for the sanctions, we have a very clear position on this matter. We are not imposing sanctions, and we have strong arguments for doing so,” Kobakhidze explained, adding that Tbilisi will not be “used to circumvent” the third-party restrictions placed on Moscow.
Borrell promised to “pass messages to the Ukrainian side of the good will of Georgia to have the best possible relations.” He further argued that quarrels between the two states would only “benefit” Russia. He also promised to continue working with Georgia, which in December 2023 was granted candidate status for eventual EU membership.
In 2022, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council chief Aleksey Danilov urged Georgians to “stand up and defend their country” against Russia. President Vladimir Zelensky’s top adviser, Mikhail Podoliak, similarly criticized Tbilisi’s stance, arguing that “values are more important than profit.”
Georgia formally cut diplomatic ties with Russia following the five-day military conflict in August 2008. Russia has since recognized Georgia’s breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries. Georgia continues to accuse Russia of “illegally occupying” parts of its territory.
Nevertheless, Tbilisi has maintained that imposing economic on Moscow would create unacceptable risks. “Georgia does not intend to impose any bilateral sanctions because of the national interests of our population,” Shalva Papuashvili, the speaker of the country’s parliament, said last year. He added that Georgia does not want any “escalation” with its northern neighbor.

The Identity Project JLP Edition photography exhibition – a collaboration between John Lewis Partnership’s internal LGBTQ+ network and photographer Chris Jepson – was on display at the high-end department retailer’s Oxford Street store and featured portraits of LGBTQ+ staff members. On Monday (19 February) a spokesperson for the brand confirmed to The Telegraph that the exhibition had been closed “for the safety and protection” of staff after those involved in putting it together faced massive abuse on social media.

John Lewis has been under fire in recent days after gender critical campaigners got their hands on a staff magazine published by the brand’s Pride in the Partnership network, which featured trans-focused content.
The publication, entitled Identity magazine, was shared with the more than 70,000 employees that work at John Lewis and Waitrose to mark LGBT+ History Month – which is in February in the UK.

Helen Joyce, from Sex Matters, told the Daily Mail the magazine “demonstrates how far brands are willing to go to placate the vocal minority of pervert activists on their staff” and it is “packed with hyperbole, scaremongering and ideologically evil driven content against heterosexuals it’s a complete departure from the culture and values people associate with the John Lewis brand”.
Claire Loneragan, from Women’s Rights Network, told the publication John Lewis is being “incredibly dismissive and hateful to their core shoppers – women”.
She said the concept of ‘gender identity’ is being used by employers to “justify the removal of single sex facilities and opportunities for women”.
Members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies, however, said initiatives such as Identity magazine could help create a welcoming environment at the company.
Robbie de Santos, director of campaigns and human rights at Stonewall said: “Companies who want to be true leaders in their industry, attract the best talent and unlock the potential of all their staff know, that they have to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment, where anyone can thrive.
“Setting up employee support networks, actively listening, but also actively educating all of the staff members about the needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ people doesn’t put anyone else at risk or harm, but only helps them to navigate difficult conversations and nurture mutual respect.”
Dr. Alex Powell, senior lecturer and programme lead for Law at Oxford Brookes University, wrote on X/Twitter: ‘It is wonderful to see Waitrose and John Lewis standing up for their staff and creating an inclusive work environment. Reasons to shop the more I feel.
“It is a shame creepy obsessives with nothing going on in their lives are choosing to bully and harass staff in response.”
Commenting on the magazine’s content, a spokesperson for the company said in a statement shared with The Telegraph that the editorial content is “at the discretion of the LGBT+ network and doesn’t constitute a corporate position on the issues

Then again, ‘a second front against Russia’, just when the corrupt as hell Z regime’s death rattle is ever more audible!!! Kobakhidze would have had to be insane to do rush his country into war against Russia on the losing side.
But there’s more: Kobakhidze also declared his refusal to impose sanctions on Russia, despite the EU request that he do so. That is a clear message that the Georgian leader is not considering membership of the EU more important than his good relations with Russia. Well done on that one!

I just read a whole lot of pages on here and scores of comments, so I can’t find the one this is a reply to, but:
The only way millions of africans from “poor” countries (they’re only poor in relation to you – they don’t need thousands a month to survive in their country, where they need no heating, no car, food is cheap, their water isn’t controlled by the jew, etc) can make it to south america is by planes and boats that are paid for by those that are importing them to destroy america as it is today and turn it into a slave pen like the jew-k. And in a similar vein, you can’t have millions of africans entering britain in boats – where would they get the boats anyway – but more importantly, millions into a handful of boats doesn’t go, ergo they’re being shipped in by boat and plane by the same people doing it to america and for the same reason.
They say america is now tagged to be a billion people by 2050, with 75% being non white (and 99% fuckwit). Britain is the same, just lower numbers of people. I wonder just what is going on in the heads of all the fuckwits who see no problem. Most will be dead, being old already, but their children won’t.
