Russia says a criminal case previously filed against the head of Wagner paramilitary group has been dropped, after Yevgeny Prigozhin ordered his forces to stop fighting and retreat to their bases.
The announcement came in a late Saturday statement by the Kremlin after Prigozhin ordered his fighters to stop marching towards Moscow and vacate the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, which they had taken control of after launching a mutiny.
According to the Kremlin’s statement, Prigozhin’s current whereabouts are unknown, but he will move to Belarus under a deal brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, which ended the mutiny that Prigozhin led against Russia’s military leadership.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Belarusian president had offered to mediate himself, adding that the Russian leadership highly appreciated his efforts.
Before the deal, Wagner forces claimed they were heading north in a convoy of trucks, tanks, and infantry armored vehicles, hoping they would reach Moscow before being intercepted by the Russian army.
Prigozhin had accused Russia’s military top brass of ordering a rocket attack on Wagner’s field camps in Ukraine — where Russia has been leading a military operation — killing “huge numbers” of his paramilitary forces.
Prigozhin had earlier demanded that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov be handed over to him.
Asked if there would be changes in the Russian Defense Ministry as a result of the deal, Peskov said, “These matters are the sole prerogative and within the competence of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief (Putin) in accordance with the constitution of the Russian Federation.”
“Therefore, it is unlikely that these topics could have been discussed in the course of the above-mentioned contacts,” he added.
Peskov also described the events that unfolded earlier in the day in the form of the mutiny as “tragic.”
He said those Wagner fighters, who had not partaken in the “march” toward Moscow, would be offered to sign contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry.
The rest of the group’s fighters, who had taken part in the mutiny, would not be prosecuted in recognition of their previous service to Russia, Peskov said, adding, “We have always respected their heroic deeds at the front.”
Still praising the deal, the Russian official said avoiding bloodshed was more important than punishing people.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Peskov said the mutiny would definitely not affect Russia’s ongoing military campaign in Ukraine.
Later on Saturday, the regional governor of Rostov-on-Don, Vasily Golubev, said Wagner group fighters had left the city, adding, “A Wagner column left Rostov and headed to their field camps.”
According to Russian media, all restrictions imposed on the country’s highways were lifted after Wagner forces started to go back to their bases.
They’re lucky it was Putin. In fact they probably did it because it was Putin. They wouldn’t have done it against Stalin and in the west they’d never see freedom again and in America that’s the death penalty.
I don’t know what’s going on, I’m looking at what russian commentators are saying but what is odd a man who instigated a rebellion is allowed to walk free ! ?. What we do know is Russians didn’t fire on each other and a lot of military have now moved in place. I’ve never believed the Prigozhin pantomime show for one moment. Ritter said only 4000 Wagner were involved? Either Putin and prigozhin have cooked up something so clever to fool the clowns at NATO or the fifth column still active in Russia were enticed out of the woodwork. Like Ritter says whatever you think of Putin hes head and shoulders above the buffoons running the West.

Looks to me the Russian Army in Belarus got the best general for the job of striking kiev. This wasn’t a coup it was a promotion. The whole performance was perfectly executed !! Just brilliant strategy by Mr.Putin.The ENDING was just incredible with Belorussia and Chechens coming to the rescue….Zelensky and collective Western elites and media had a multi-orgasmic tantrum !! How can they even begin to believe that Prigozhin would be able to survive a day when the 1st posted the video criticizing top military brass and Putin came out 2-3 months ago !! He would have been toasted the next day !! So, now he goes to Belorussia, there is a very good reason he is going there ( Poland and their master USA have been preparing a coup against Belorussia for a very long time ) !!! What did Sun Tzu Putin gain? The disguise of the movement of mass quantities of his troops, the appearance of being weak to bait Ukraine to attack and he weeded out any traitors who may have tried to join with Prigozhin. What did Putin loose? Nothing.

Clearly Press TV knows very little. But Alexander Mercouris outlines a grippingly plausible picture of what happened and how it happened, featuring, of course, Pregozhin. More importantly, Mercouris assures that the Russian political situation is completely stable, as is the military establishment and the army. Russia is unhurt, and popular support of President Putin is stronger than ever. Prigozhin, of course, is toast, and a pretty soggy one at that. But the Wager Group remains the incredibly strong and admired fighting unit it has long proved itself to be. Brilliant political manoeuvring by President Putin and his entourage!

If the US knew about this rebellion, how is it possible that Russia didn’t get wind of it, too? It looks to me like this rebellion was allowed to happen to serve some psychological or political benefit to Russia. For example, after America being exposed to being involved, it makes it much more difficult for America to claim they had nothing to do with the next false flag, which may come just before July 11th, the date Vitoria Nuland said officially in Kiev that WW3 will start.
