The new EU Parliament resolution calling for more Western arms for Ukraine and a full energy embargo on Russia will only add fuel to the conflict between Moscow and Kiev and prove detrimental to the European economy, Csaba Domotor, the secretary of state in the Hungarian prime minister’s office, has said.
On Thursday, the bloc’s legislature approved a non-binding document encouraging member states to adopt a tenth package of sanctions against Moscow as soon as possible.
Among the measures being proposed are an embargo on imports of fossil fuels and uranium from Russia, further arms shipments to Ukraine, and for the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines to “be completely abandoned.” The EU Parliament is also seeking to target oil company Lukoil and Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Domotor blasted the resolution, noting that it includes two “most serious” points.
The first provision calling for military aid to Ukraine to be increased and accelerated is “anything but a call for peace. Rather, it is a big step towards military escalation,” he said.
Meanwhile, an embargo on fossil fuels and uranium from Russia would essentially mean a complete ban on imports of gas and nuclear fuel from the country, Domotor pointed out.
Should the European Parliament impose these restrictions, they would “not only support the previous sanctions, but also inflation,” which is largely attributable to skyrocketing energy prices, the official warned.
“If a total embargo is announced, it is a guarantee of further price increases. I think this is [going in] a very bad direction,” Domotor stressed.
Hungary, which is heavily dependent on Russian energy, has long been critical of the sanctions the West has imposed on Moscow over the Ukraine conflict. It has argued that the restrictions have adversely impacted the EU economy but failed to meaningfully weaken Russia.
Budapest has also refrained from supplying Ukraine with arms while signaling last month that it would veto any EU sanctions targeting Russian nuclear energy.

Well done Hungary for (yet again) taking issue with the warmongering left-liberal (commie) EU Parliament.
But for Hungary, the EU would keep up its old trick of passing itself off as a genuine union of 27 European nations that speak as one. Only Hungry, with occasional Polish and Czech contributions, persistently insists on its right to voice dissent. For this ‘audacity’, the EU leadership takes revenge on Hungary by withholding rightful funds from it, on one pretext or another … then on ten and more others, e.g:
Hungary is denying the human rights of homosexuals by (among other things) enshrining in law that ‘a marriage is between a man and a women’, and that children under 18 years may not be instructed in the ‘trans- ideology’. (Oh, my! How hideously Christian does this little country dare to be!) Then there is the perennial ‘media-censorship’ issue: Hungary dares to have a media law that penalises mendacity. (Sheesh! Does this little country not know that the news media exist to lie their teeth out?)
The corrupt leadership of the EU Parliament is now common knowledge: Its President, Ursula von der Leyen, paid Pfizer some eight times more than the due sum payable to it for the Pfizer vaccines she bought for the EU member member states. But she did the whole transaction on her mobile phone, so there is no paper trail to examine. She is still standing, therefore, and her husband now has an executive position at Pfizer that pays him an eye-watering annual salary. (Well, EU ‘presidenting’ is a good job, if you can get it and keep it.)
Less lucky is her ex-Vice President of the EU, Eva Kailli, who is incarcerated for taking Qatari bribes to promote Qatari interests on the floor of the EU parliament and covertly. Several of her likes are awaiting trial or are also imprisoned, like her husband/partner. But Madam von der Leyen continues to remain standing. So it is von der Leyen here, von der Leyen there, von der Leyen bloody everywhere, engaged almost exclusively in miaowing for more aid to Ukraine, the shameless war-mongering bitch. Yet she dares to bring all sorts of allegations against whistle-clean Hungary, the only EU member state to persistently seek to end EU corruption, and to plead for EU effort to end the Ukraine-Russia war.

This’ll annoy the EU even more. It seems for now the British parliament has voted against going cashless. How long that’s for it’s not clear as there still appears to be a consultation process, but maybe the rich who generally vote Tory have realised it would greatly limit their chances of making money and, horror of all horrors, they’d actually end up paying all their taxes. Because few of them are far enough up the greasy pole to actually be one of the controllers, that means they’ll become just another one under control.

The Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister and Minister for Trade, Mr Peter Szijjarto, a first-time attendee (not having found the time for it in previous years) at the Davos Clown Show, was asked this question there. He gave a very diplomatically bland answer: ‘We are proud EU Members …’.
I gathered from this that Hungary is blowed if it will oblige the EU by going through a costly and expensive, and ultimately pointless, BREXIT-like process. If the EU wishes to oblige Hungary by kicking it out, Hungary need do no more than sit back and watch the EU implement a process that has no legal framework nor precedent. The EU is likely to collapse well before such a venture into No Man’s Land gets it anywhere. The EU leadership surely knows that. So Hungary is unlikely to get lucky by kick-out. It will remain a ‘proud EU member’, but it will continue to protect its sovereignty, and with it the right to remain a conservative country with Christian roots.
BRICS is the way forward, of course. Hungary already has a foot in that door: At Davos, Mr Szijjarto outlined its present trade ties to China. And it has won the right to remain the only EU country to buy Russian energy products. So, unlike Germany, which has acquiesced in the destruction of its huge industrial base, Hungary has saved its developing industrial base.
