The United States on Wednesday announced it will provide Ukraine with the advanced Patriot air defense system as part of a new $1.85 billion military package to the war-ravaged country.
The announcement came in parallel with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington, his first overseas trip since Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine in late February.
The new military assistance comes after repeated requests from Kiev for the Patriot system, which many experts believe could be a risky proposition.
“Today’s assistance for the first time includes the Patriot Air Defense System, capable of bringing down cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles, and aircraft at a significantly higher ceiling than previously provided air defense systems,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
Made by US aerospace and military conglomerate Raytheon, the MIM-104 Patriot is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system initially developed to intercept high-flying aircraft.
The system was modified in the 1980s to focus on the new threat of tactical ballistic missiles.
Reports about the US plans to supply the Patriot system to Ukraine had been doing rounds for several weeks amid Russia’s rapid territorial gains in Ukraine and the escalation of ground and aerial fighting.
The new package was unveiled as Zelenskiy headed to Washington on Wednesday to meet President Joe Biden, address Congress and seek “weapons, weapons, and more weapons”.
“President Biden will announce a significant new package of nearly $2 billion of security assistance for Ukraine,” the White House statement said in a statement on Tuesday ahead of the visit.
“It will contain a very important new capability: a Patriot missile battery, which will be a critical asset to defend the Ukrainian people against Russia’s barbaric attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.”
Zelensky said the visit was meant to strengthen Ukraine’s “resilience and defense capabilities” amid repeated Russian missile and drone attacks on the country.
“Unlike the other Western systems that have been provided to Ukraine, (Patriot) has some anti-ballistic missile capabilities (depending on the type of missile being used),” Karl Mueller, a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation, was quoted as saying by AFP.
The supply of Patriot systems comes despite repeated warnings by Moscow that it will prolong the war.
Last week, Russia said it would amount to “provocation” and a further expansion of the United States military involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow was recommending Washington “draw the right conclusions” from Moscow’s warnings that US-supplied military equipment would become “legitimate targets” for Russian missile strikes.
“Many experts have doubted the wisdom of such a step, which leads to the escalation of the conflict,” the ministry’s spokeswoman, Zakharova told reporters.
The Kremlin warned Wednesday that increasing the supply of US arms to Ukraine would aggravate the war, and Russia’s defense minister called for expanding Moscow’s military by at least 500,000 people.
Speaking at a meeting with Russian military officials, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country is facing the “military potential and capabilities of almost all major NATO countries” in Ukraine, adding that this will not stop Moscow from achieving its objectives.
He said “all information about NATO forces [and] the means which are actively being used against us during the special military operation, are well known,” and that it should be “carefully analyzed and used” to boost the combat capabilities of Russia’s armed forces and security agencies.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine in late February, following Kiev’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements and Moscow’s recognition of the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
At the time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said one of the goals of what he called a “special military operation” was to “de-Nazify” Ukraine.
Since the outbreak of war, the United States and its Western allies have supplied many shipments of heavy weaponry to Ukraine, despite Russia’s warnings that it will only prolong the war.

Perhaps the announcement is more bully braggadocio preening on the world stage than what will inevitably happen; perhaps nothing at all delivered—-or maybe ending up in neighboring countries, thinking that Russia can be deceived.

This article about Congress giving money to Ukraine reminds me of something my dad said to me a few times when I was 18 years old (I’m 76 years old now).
I had a 1955 Chevrolet two door post sedan which was a popular hotrod car back then, and I was working a factory job that paid fairly good wages (I was making quite a bit more money than most of my friends), and I spent a lot of the money I made on that car. It had nearly 400 hp. which was a lot of hp for a street car at that time. But things were always breaking (because of too much hp) and I spent a lot of money fixing those problems.
One day my dad and I were standing in the kitchen talking and I had just bought several boxes of expensive car parts that I had on the kitchen table, and he said: “You could save yourself a lot of time and trouble if you cashed your paycheck every week and came and put the money in the garbage disposal.” He said it several times during the year I owned that car and he would be grinning every time he said it.
The old term, “follow the money” is appropriate here. The other factor fueling this proxy war in the Ukraine – vast profits for the U.S. arms industry.

In researching the actual history of WWI we see the same hand, making promises to and funding both sides from their various houses in Europe. Funding both sides has always been a most profitable business when the winner pays all debts. The Rothschild’s boast of their cleverness and power to elicit the Balfour promise for a Jewish state in Palestine, which actual promise was in 2016 and not the letter of 2017. It, however, was a promise to continue that war by cancelling their credit to Germany, causing uprisings in that nation through their control of the labor movement, and by bringing the US into the war on the side of the “Allies”. The take-all and own-all Rothschild’s and the Zionists continue to have absolutely no remorse for their machinations in continuing that war when in 1916. German which had the upper hand wanted peace with all nations returning to their original borders. Rather the head of that dynasty still openly boasts of its prowess in Balfour deal to ensure a victory for the “Allies” in exchange for Palestine – a war which cost the lives of an estimated 15 million on both sides.
This was the same dynasty which engineered the Versailles Treaty with Germany to bleed it into privation in order that their war loans would be honored through what was called reparations, and in a joint effort with the US and the UK to ensure that it not rise again.
Those are the facts and what is amazing is the attitude that it was all justified both for US and UK dominance and for a Jewish homeland.
Or perhaps history is not so black and white and that in 1916 when these negotiations were going on and the UK felt that their plan of putting down Germany as a major rival to their interests had fallen apart, and also in their desperation to induce the US into the war on their side, they had to make a deal with the Rothschild money power and promise them something in return for their betrayal Germany, which they likely did. Or, perhaps they were threatened by joint UK and US empire builders that if they did not pull the financial plug on Germany all of their assets would be seized. However, the problem with that conception is that by the beginning of that century both the UK and the US were nothing more than vassal states of that monolithic money power, and they still are.
What then of Russia? How independent is it from the controls of the tentacles of the Rothschild money power that it is safe to believe that the war in the Ukraine is not either a giant pretext for a NWO peace plan after mounting the mother of all perils of a WWIII, or as RAH says it is a pretext to divide the Ukraine to create a Zio state in the western regions.
Russia has not repudiated any of the plans for NWO centralized controls, and has not come clean on Covid, which most certainly has been a giant pretext to usher in the NWO totalitarian and technocratic controls over people everywhere.

Last night (a few minutes after midnight, 21/12, GMT) I watched the entire footage of the Clown Zelenski’s address to the US Congress. My, what a comedy! He walked in, in a crush of minders, to thunderous applause, dressed in a green T-shirt and trousers. In this context of dressed-to-the-nines Congress people, he looked seriously peculiar. Might this have been his humble sense of his inferiority in such a prestigious context? If not, then what did he mean by this dustman’s get-up?
The first move was the Clown’s attempt to read his short but densely adulatory English text to Congress. (His command of English is so poor that it can hardly be said to exist.) The reading was halting and mostly unintelligible. Even so, very time he paused (after every two or three sentences), the honourable members of Congress clapped delightedly, then jumped up and went on clapping.
Then the Clown spoke in Ukrainian, alongside a simultaneous interpreter. There was no opportunity for the honourable members of Congress to clap-jump-up-clap until this performance had finished. This is where he put forward his humble demand for more money and much more belligerent equipment. And he expounded his scintillating insight that money given to Ukraine is not charity, but an investment by the Western nations in the security that the terrorist Putin will not dare attack any of them.
An exchange between the Clown and Biden of promises of eternal allegiance was supposed to have been simultaneously translated. But both of them had difficulty working out when each was supposed to put his ear-phones on. And this simultaneous translator was astonishingly incompetent. But the Clown kept clutching his heart meaningfully, and making cow-yes at Biden. That was funny.
Funnier still was the next move: the exchange of gifts. The Clown handed over a Ukrainian flag with signatures all over its yellow part, then accepted a triangular heavy-framed and glassed-in set of four star spanglers. The clapping and standing by the honourable members was continuous throughout tender scene. Eventually, Nancy Pelosi laid herself flat on the table between herself and the Clown to enable him to kiss her cheek and hold her hands as he looked lovingly into her eyes. Nobody laughed, nor even chundered.
That was followed by what set out to be the Clown’s and Biden’s answers to a journalist’s question. (The journalist appeared to be Jewish.) He asked, in quite confrontational tones, whether what was said between the Clown and Biden could not have been said as well, and at much less cost, then at this visit in person. The journalist’s question remained unanswered, for the Clown was hurried out, followed by more thunderous clapping. (Of course, this might have been a ‘good riddance’ expression.)
Pretty much all of Congress was involved in this performance. But the camera moved accusingly several times to the same spot where there were a few empty seats, and the few people either side of it were neither standing nor clapping. I cannot say that this was in any way an impressive event at any point of it. Yet it strained itself out across more than two hours. To what avail, I wonder. (Oh, I must not say such churlish things: It did give me a few laughs.)

You can never really tell if congressional absentees are boycotting an address, upon principle, or if they’re just opportuning some time off. I understand that GOP rep. Thomas Massie declared his conscientious non-attendence beforehand but he’s the only non-participant to have made such a statement, as far as I know.
I haven’t watched the Capitol Hill theatre yet but I think I’ll stick to the highlights. I don’t have your stamina. I’ll be looking out for the Nancy-Volodymyr kiss. Not that I’m a fan of matinee or melodrama. In fact, it sounds truly icky.
