The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine that could be announced as soon as this week, according to two US officials and a senior administration official.
The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. The three officials told CNN that approval is expected.
Ukraine has been calling for the US to send the advanced long-range air defense system that is highly effective at intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles as it comes under a barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks that have destroyed key infrastructure across the country. It would be the most effective long-range defensive weapons system sent to the country and officials say it will help secure airspace for NATO nations in eastern Europe.
It is not clear how many missile launchers will be sent but a typical Patriot battery includes a radar set that detects and tracks targets, computers, power generating equipment, an engagement control station and up to eight launchers, each holding four ready to fire missiles.
Once the plans are finalized, the Patriots are expected to ship quickly in the coming days and Ukrainians will be trained to use them at a US Army base in Grafenwoehr, Germany, officials said.
Ukraine has been asking for the system for months but the logistical challenges of delivering it and operating it are immense. Despite those obstacles, “the reality of what is going on the ground” led the administration to make the decision, the senior administration official told CNN, noting the continuing intense Russian missile barrages.

lol, It’s like your Fun Loving Sun reporting.
Never mind that, Why aren’t the Germans telling the ‘septics’ & the ‘ukulele’s to peace off & meddle in their own property.
Just asking, Now the Brits have admitted their troops have been involved in the ‘Ukulele’. & what was threatened not long ago by pooot’n, Shouldn’t that mean the UK/Russia are also ‘at war’.
This is precisely why I have been saying ‘Putin must go’.
Russia needs a leader who will make the right military responses to NWO escalation.
I am quite sure the US has made it clear that any overwhelming push in UKraine this winter, will see a coalition of the willing enter UKraine. And there’s talk that Russia won’t in fact do much. Of course, we arent in the corridors of power, but it does seem that Putin the Weak might once again, avoid escalation, just as he did in Syria, by not driving our the US Nazis.
The top sheeple in Russia, they need to act fast and put a real man of action in power. We already have HIMARS operated by NWO contractors, and now Patriot systems, which again, will be operated by NWO contractors. The US has admitted that UKrainian Nazis get full US battlefield intel.
Maybe Putin thinks he’s still in the pre match warmup?
Patriot missiles don’t stop squat. Gulf War 1, Bush senior bragged about their effectiveness, when in fact they had trouble hitting one Scud, a very primitive WW2 slow missile.
What is more important is that this is another “red line” being crossed.
The Yanks will have pestered and cajoled other countries into buy the Patriot missile system, and now it’s pestering them to send some of those very expensive missiles to Ukraine. Taking the piss or what?
Carl Jones is quite correct, Putin must go. I’m not sure what his game is but I should’ve had this over with months ago.
NATO just cant make Russia budge from its stated objectives no matter what provocations, the West continues to bleed. Just what exactly does NATO expect to achieve ? A million dollar missile trying to bring down a $20,000 flying lawn mower ! And more NATO troops in the firing line, is this why a British General has admitted its troops are in Ukraine so getting the sheeple ready for the body bags ? Still looks like Serbia round 2 is on the horizon the perfect victim , small military small nation puuuuurrfect. Oh what a lovely war
Quote: the Patriots are expected to ship quickly in the coming days and Ukrainians will be trained to use them at a US Army base…
You mean Ukrainian which are speaking English surely, ,those which are speaking Ukrainian aren’t there anymore …
Operating and maintaining that system requires months or more of training. Give me a break,,, If they send the system to Ukraine it will be accompanied and operated by Nato/US personal.
The system itself is pure American Junk. It has performed poorly everywhere it has been deployed. With Lycoming making about 250 missiles a year and the Russians lobbing several hundred a week they’ll run out of ammo quick. It’s all a joke.
@Carl Jones aka Gary Higgins
‘Carl Jones is quite correct, Putin must go. I’m not sure what his game is but I should’ve had this over with months ago.’
In the expensive, slow motion train wreck of the Saruman administration, this weapon should just be a good fit. The patriot (as Yukon rightfully points out) couldn’t take out a flying barn,
but it might start a nuke war, if the Russians don’t laugh to death. But another mighty hurl of luchre might kick it all off, and it is purely a defensive rock on a catapult…
That Patriots are junk isn’t the issue. That is that Putin has allowed the West time. Every time he has held back, the West has escalated. The Russians need to get in there and end this before the West goes nuclear. Putin also needs to hurt the Brits, and hurt them bad. Without the Brits pushing things, the US is nowheresville.
According to Col. Doug Macgregor, the Patriot system is not at all a “game changer.” It is not very effective against low flying cruise missiles (and presumably also drones), and it’s easy to spot. And I believe Scott Ritter has made similar statements about it. So the Russians will probably have no problem finding the systems and taking them out. Macgregor opined that sending them to Ukraine is a political act, a la “see, we did everything we could to help Ukraine” or something like that.
