News Brief – Sept 20, 2022

Four regions in eastern Ukraine have announced plans to hold a referendum on whether to be reincorporated into the Russian Federation.

Provincial authorities in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson revealed their plans in a series of coordinated announcements.

The U.S. has already declared that it will reject the results of this “sham” referendum; which is rich, given that the authenticity of Biden’s election win is still widely disputed.

Russian troops moved into the Russian-speaking provinces after years of tensions with Kiev escalated into open conflict with armed local militias fighting Ukraine’s forces. Among those fighting for the government in Kiev were the hated neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, who were accused of carrying out atrocities that at the time even NEWSWEEK reported as: “ISIS style War Crimes”.

That was in 2014 and the Western MSM has since whitewashed such reports, if it reports them at all, to ensure that the Western public don’t get the full picture of what is happening.

As with the Crimean referendum in 2014, when Crimea’s ethnic Russian majority voted en masse to be reincorporated into the Russian Federation, Ukraine’s Russian-speaking provinces are likely to vote the same way.

Kiev and their allies in the West with their MSM accomplices may make unsubstantiated claims about “illegal” referendums and rigged voting, but it’s only to expected that Russian speaking eastern Ukrainians want to be reunited with Mother Russia.

After all, eastern Ukraine has ties to Russia stretching back centuries, while what is now western Ukraine has always been more western orientated.

Even though it purportedly supports democracy, the West has already denounced plans for the proposed referendum.

If and when the vote goes ahead the ramifications could be far-reaching, however. If Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson vote to be reincorporated into the Russian Federation, Moscow will no longer be conducting a “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine. Instead, it will view the operation as a defence of the Russian homeland.

As far as the Kremlin is concerned that’s a big difference.

Despite the obviously biased Western MSM coverage, Russia has thus far shown considerable restraint in its Special Military Operation. This will change if the Russian-speaking provinces vote to rejoin the Russian Federation.

Then the actions of Ukraine and their Western backers in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson will be seen as an attack on Russia itself. Opening the way for any number of responses, all of them equally grim.

In the short term this could result in a dramatic escalation of the war in Ukraine. If that happens the West could find itself inextricably drawn into a direct military conflict with Russia, and ultimately maybe China and Iran too.

In the longer term this could result in the break-up of Ukraine and a complete redrawing of the map for central Europe. All of which will be accomplished with the collusion of the Western MSM and the loss of a lot of innocent blood. Ed.
