Introduction – July 10, 2022

The Russian campaign in Ukraine may be far from over. Russia’s President Putin has said as much. Despite western MSM reports that try to minimise its gains and maximise its losses, Russia has thus far only deployed a small portion of its overall military power in the conflict.

Putin would be foolish to do otherwise. He knows the West is using Ukraine as a proxy in a broader campaign to undermine Russia so like any sensible commander he’s keeping the larger part of Russia’s military power in reserve; ready for the possibility of a more direct confrontation with the West.

If, when and where that will occur is debatable but Ukraine is a proxy war that could escalate at any moment into a much broader conflict.

It would also be a serious mistake to assume that the Ukrainian conflict had severely diminished Russia’s fighting capacity. If anything the converse is true. There is a vast difference between soldiers with combat experience and those without. Any soldier with combat experience will tell you as much.

Even before Russia’s campaign began, the Ukrainian Army was a well-equipped force. Under Western military guidance, the Ukrainian Army was in the process of becoming a formidable fighting force. Although the Western MSM has consistently misrepresented events on the ground, the ongoing conflict has now seen the Ukrainian armed forces reduced to a shadow of its former self; while the Russian military has gained invaluable combat experience fighting a near peer opponent.

This will give Russia a real advantage over the West, if and when this conflict escalates.

I write this in view of the fact that the planetary configuration in the coming weeks could culminate in a sudden, catastrophic conflict erupting quite unexpectedly. Ed.

Russia assembling reserves near Ukraine for future offensive, says U.K. military intelligence

Russia is moving reserve forces from across the country and assembling them near Ukraine for future offensive operations, British military intelligence said on Saturday.

A large proportion of the new Russian infantry units are probably deploying with MT-LB armoured vehicles taken from long-term storage as their primary transport, Britain’s Ministry of Defence tweeted in a regular bulletin.

The bulletin comes as Ukrainian defenders battled on Saturday to contain Russian forces along several fronts, officials said.

A missile strike on the northeastern city of Kharkiv wounded three civilians, its governor said, adding fighters had repulsed two Russian attacks near Dementiivka, a town situated between the city and the border with Russia.

Russia’s defence ministry said its forces hit two “bases of foreign mercenaries deployed near Kharkiv.”
