As gas and grocery prices continue to soar from white-hot inflation, President Joe Biden’s economy is stimulating one unexpected industry. Pawn shops are raking in items as beleaguered Americans struggle to pay for basic necessities.
Give credit where credit is due, when Biden recently said his administration is “changing people’s lives,” he could not have been more right.
Everything from computers and firearms to tools and video game systems are parading into the doors of pawn shops. There are even wedding rings and family heirlooms being pawned to fill gas tanks
A pawnshop manager in Lubbock, Texas, said she sees a steady stream of people pawning personal items. One customer was on “E” and pawned their belongings to get to work that day.
Another Texas shopkeeper tells of a traveling nurse who pawned his carry pistol to afford the gas necessary to do his job.
The owner of a pawn store in Decatur, Illinois, reported new monthly customers increased from an average of 50 to 70 up to 200 in May. He said that as people are getting further and further behind, his business is taking in more unique items for customers to make ends meet.
Bidenflation is truly a gift that keeps on giving.
People from all walks of life now resort to pawning their possessions to keep gas in the tank and food on the table. Construction workers bring their tools into pawn shops for cash when work dies off and return to get them out when a new job appears.
And it’s not just gas. The owner of a Bay City, Michigan shop had four customers in one day last week pawn items to pay for their electricity to be turned back on.
Credit cards are less of an option as more Americans max out. The Federal Reserve says total consumer credit spiked $52 billion in March alone, and April’s tab came in 14% higher than just a year ago. The average American now carries over $5,500 in credit card debt.
Biden’s inflation is a tax that is ripping chunks out of working people’s wallets. Reckless spending and shortsighted energy policies have come home to roost, and their cost is being paid by everyone. There is a reckoning coming in November.
My home town has been a second-hand economy for years, where once-popular High Street shops in busy streets closed for business and were then taken over by charity shops and pawn shops. This was all years before foodbanks existed which shows even further how ordinary living standards have fallen.
Strangely these are the shops that will be worth looting when the economy collapses, as will others like army surplus and fishing tackle shops. Don’t go looting or buying the expensive junk which generates the economy, go for these shops which sell stuff worth having. A designer suit won’t keep you dry and warm like an old parka or duffel coat will; nor will it look so good after it’s been slept in once or twice. New microwaves won’t cook meals in a power cut but camping stoves from an army surplus store will. New cars driven off a forecourt won’t get you anywhere after the bit of fuel in them runs out, unlike second-hand bikes which can take you anywhere. And all that expensive kit has serial numbers which can be used against you, while most of the really useful stuff like fishing rods don’t have one.
It has been said for years that we will all be herded into Megacities and made to use public transport, no more traveling miles to work.
It looks like the first phase, make distance travel unaffordable.
> New microwaves won’t cook meals in a power cut but camping stoves from an army surplus store will
Until the gas runs out…
> And all that expensive kit has serial numbers which can be used against you
How, pray tell, will the serial number of a microwave or a tv be used against you?
Are you a “prepper”? If so, kindly tell me how you’re going to cook all that rice without any water or power? I’ve always wondered…
Sri Lanka is quite literally collapsing. People are starving, without gas or electricity, etc. Now they are rioting and the military are gunning people down. Wouldn’t be surprised if that reality spreads to the US, UK and all western countries in the next few years.

Same here. What they don’t tell you is the average people running fixit and resale shops are not doing all that well either.
I can recondition an old vacuum cleaner or space heater but what happens when even MY customer’s can’t afford it? Amazing.
All the First World countries that are falling into poverty is the reason old time patriots are all Putin fans. I doubt it’s any better there but people always figure that if our guys a jerk, his opposite number must be the saviour.
This is not a Biden theng or a Boris thing it is happenin g ALL OVER THE WORLD this is a GLOBALIST take over it is time to hunt down the 1% and blow them back to the sewer they came from END OF! If ONLY we in the UK were givcen the right to bear arms like our brothers in the US we could between us hunt this HOOK NOSED SCUM DOWN
From the perspective of a small town lower class environment (as opposed to a metropolis lower class environment which is apples and oranges) we the wee ones barely even noticed the last two years were overly traumatic, dramatic, etc. The stupid masks were hardly more than a extremely part time nuisance and as the article hints at, re-sale, second hand, thrift store business is booming and as everyone knows (or will) America has the best second-hand stores in the world! Bar none, we’re #1. How else might us poor salt of the earth types afford the finer thing in life like fine woolen long-johns and socks, stainless steel pots and pans. Three bicycles! I’m so spoiled it isn’t even funny..
Preppers have been sadly eating ten-year-old food for decades and it always comes out of the package demanding to know why it was falsely imprisoned for so long, and it couldn’t even do press-ups
Just returned from the Thrift Store where I did the bulk of my summer clothes shopping. Since it is officially summer now.
Three pairs of shorts. Columbia, Wrangler and J Crue, one long sleeve summer dress up shirt (Ralph Lauren) I couldn’t resist because it is so nice and two T-shirts all in perfect condition, spotlessly clean and ironed = $8.50 But because even poor men like myself have been known to blush at times, that’s what I did as I gave the sweet old lady $10 bill and keep the change..
P.S. In the interests of fairness, full disclosure and at least half a dozen other what should be common courtesies, I l did neglect to disclose the 50% off day part and my bad.
Yes it was and is enough to make a grown man blush..
