The Group of Seven major economies have agreed to reject Moscow’s demand to pay for Russian natural gas exports in rubles, the German energy minister said Monday.
Robert Habeck told reporters that “all G-7 ministers agreed completely that this (would be) a one-sided and clear breach of the existing contracts.” He said officials from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada met Friday to coordinate their position and that European Union representatives also were present.
Habeck said that “payment in ruble is not acceptable and we will urge the companies affected not to follow (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s demand.”
Putin announced last week that Russia will demand “unfriendly” countries pay for natural gas only in Russian currency from now on. He instructed the country’s central bank to work out a procedure for natural gas buyers to acquire rubles in Russia.
Economists said the move appeared designed to try to support the ruble, which has collapsed against other currencies since Putin invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 and Western countries responded with far-reaching sanctions against Moscow. But some analysts expressed doubt that it would work.
Asked by reporters earlier Monday if Russia could cut natural gas supplies to European customers if they reject the demand to pay in rubles, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a conference call that “we clearly aren’t going to supply gas for free.”
“In our situation, it’s hardly possible and feasible to engage in charity for Europe,” Peskov said.
Asked what happens if Russia turns off the taps now, Germany’s energy minister said, “We are prepared for all scenarios.”
“Putin’s demand to convert the contracts to ruble (means) he is standing with his back to the wall in that regard, otherwise he wouldn’t have made that demand,” Habeck said, adding that Russia needs rubles to finance its war at home, such as payments to troops.
There’s already rumours of a compromise, but I hope they aren’t true.

When push comes to shove, Russia needs to treat the EU exactly how they deserve to be treated. If you want to be Washington’s bitch, then pay for gas in Rubles. In fact, pay Rubles for all Russian commodities!
Russia is on the verge of having a currency on a par with the US dollar, UK pound, the Euro and Yen. And all because the Satanic NWO sect doesn’t do economics, they only understand their own perception of their own power, power which isn’t as great as they believe it is.
Outside of NATO states, we have Japan and a handful, maybe a few states who are following the NWO script, and even then, Germany is massive divided. The rest of the world understands what the Russians are doing in response to the US and UK, & they are backing Russia. It doesn’t matter that these countries aren’t on the hilltops screaming their support of Russia, the fact is, in back offices, they are telling Blinken and Truss to xxxx off. Most Middle Eastern states won’t even answer Biden’s phone calls, but they talk to Putin.
As I’ve said in other comments. If Russia accepts Euros, they’ll be sanctione. It is the West who has broken the contracts, it is ACTUALLY the West who has defaulted!
So it is logical for Russia to demand Ruble payments, and I hope Putin doesn’t back down. The Ruble is set to become a major global currency, because Russia should be demanding Ruble payments for all of its commodities.

News reports suggest Germany is saying its people should have gas to keep warm and businesses should be rationed. I don’t believe that people come before business in any part of the west, but no problem. The decision about who does without will be made for them once their supply and reserves are down to zero.

Russia knows that arbitarily cutting off the gas would prompt an attack by NATO – the Euro-elite would be so desperate, so fearful of massive civil unrest, that they would have no choice.
