Two former Labour Home Secretaries are being congratulated on their belated candour about immigration. Jack Straw now says letting so many people settle in Britain was a ‘spectacular mistake’.
David Blunkett has gone further, warning of civil unrest in his home city of Sheffield because the behaviour of recently arrived Roma gypsies is ‘aggravating’ the locals.
Joy there is said to be in Heaven over every repentant sinner. But before the angels start cracking open the Bollinger, it is worth pausing to consider the part played by both men in creating the mess we find ourselves in today. Straw and Blunkett were two of the most senior figures of the Blair/Brown era. They were fully signed up to the New Labour ‘project’.
Mass immigration wasn’t a ‘mistake’. A mistake is forgetting to take an umbrella when heavy rain is forecast. A mistake is wearing brown suede shoes with a blue pinstripe suit.
No, trawling the globe for immigrants was a deliberate Labour policy. It was designed, in the memorable words of former Blair speech-writer Andrew Neather, to ‘rub the Right’s noses in diversity’.

Neather says Straw conspired with Blair to ‘dishonestly’ conceal the plan from the public because they knew voters would never go along with it if the truth came out. And Neather should know, because he worked for Straw at the Home Office.
The reptilian Peter Mandelson, another co-conspirator, has since joked about Labour ‘sending search parties’ for immigrants from the four corners of the Earth.
Labour set out utterly to transform the demographic make-up of England without making any attempt to obtain democratic consent.
I say ‘England’ specifically, because it is England which has borne the brunt of mass immigration and is now struggling to live with the consequences.
New Labour hated the English. We weren’t to be trusted. In 2000, Straw himself damned the English as violent nationalists who have used force to subjugate other races. It was a despicable slur, but entirely in keeping with Labour’s core strategy.
That preposterous Welsh-born oaf Two Jags, who demeaned high office for a decade, even claimed: ‘There is no such nationality as English.’
The fear was that the love affair with New Labour wouldn’t last and the English would revert to type and return a Conservative government. So the plan was to flood the country with immigrants who would then repay the favour by voting Labour.
Ministers told bare-faced lies about their true intentions and smeared anyone who objected to the unprecedented influx of foreign nationals as a ‘racist’ or a ‘xenophobe’.
Sir Andrew Green, the mild-mannered former diplomat who runs MigrationWatch UK, was subjected to a vile and sustained campaign of character assassination. Green’s ‘crime’ was to expose, forensically and accurately, the genuine scale of immigration.
Straw was up to his neck in this synchronised deceit. Now that he is standing down as an MP and no longer has to ingratiate himself with his Muslim constituents in Blackburn, he seems to think that a quick mea culpa and a couple of Hail Marys will absolve him of his share of responsibility.
Blunkett, too, is one of the guilty men. You didn’t have to hack his mobile phone to divine his real intentions. In 2003, Blunkett declared there was ‘no obvious upper limit’ to immigration. So it’s a bit rich for him to complain about the consequences in his own backyard.
In Sheffield, the locals are angry about Roma gypsies loitering in the streets and dumping litter.
Blunkett said: ‘We have got to be tough and robust in saying to these people: “You are not living in a downtrodden village or woodlands.” ’
This would be hilarious were it not so tragic. Labour’s pernicious policy of ‘multi-culturalism’ encouraged immigrants to carry on behaving as they did in their homeland with no concessions to the host community.
The sheer weight of numbers arriving in a short space of time meant that there was no need for them to integrate. The multi-cultists expected British society to adapt to accommodate immigrants, not vice versa.
This column has always maintained that among those most disrupted and disturbed by the recent waves of unfettered migration are the members of settled minorities.
In London, there have been tensions between the long-established Cypriot community and Johnny-come-lately Albanians, Kosovans and Kurds. Elsewhere, West Indians have clashed with Somalis.
It can be no coincidence that in Sheffield, local Pakistanis have started street patrols to ‘educate’ the Roma about ‘how to behave in England’.
What did Blunkett expect the itinerant Roma people to do once they landed in Yorkshire — open agreeable little restaurants and set up community recycling schemes?
Astonishingly, this country now has one of the biggest Roma populations in Europe — 200,000 and counting, even before Romanians and Bulgarians get the right to work and feast on Britain’s benefits buffet in January.
How did that happen and who voted for it? I can see what’s in it for them, but what’s in it for the rest of us?
At this point it is only polite to record the many advantages immigrants have brought. But it is absurd to pretend that mass immigration has been an unalloyed success story.
Those of us who expressed reservations about Labour’s reckless open-door immigration policy were howled down and smeared as neanderthal racists by Labour and its allies in the BBC and the Left-wing press.
This was never about immigration in itself; it was about numbers and the wisdom of allowing millions of newcomers with no historic connection to Britain to settle here in such a short period of time.
Straw and Blunkett now see themselves as wise elder statesman. They will get their reward in the House of Lords, where they will draw their gold-plated pensions and be waited on hand and foot by liveried flunkies.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will have to live with the consequences of their disastrous, cynical immigration scamboli as best we can.
Straw, Blunkett and the rest of their Labour co-conspirators shouldn’t expect to be applauded for admitting that the scales have now fallen from their eyes. They should hang their heads in shame.

Sure, Labour might of held high aspirations for a new demographic, but the reality is that the City model of ultra low competitiveness with a large pool of low skilled unemployed labour just waiting to be abused in some short lived investment business plan all about extracting maximum profit, while using regime grants and development tax breaks, it the reality.
At the end of the day, bankrupt Britain is a one party state, so when a few Labour grandees pontificate, don’t believe a word they say.
Jack Starw should be behind bars, thus he never got into the House of Lords. Blunkett has never had his feet on the ground, & I’d put this down to the fact he is blind. I’m sorry for anyone with this problem, and I know other senses can cover some of the shortfall, but I can’t see (pun) how you can hold high office with the loss of one’s eye sight. Hearing maybe, but not sight.
In the 50s we had Windrush, because the British elite had put us through 2 world wars and had majorly destroyed the best sheeple stock this country had, and it hasn’t recovered to this day. Immigrants from the West Indies and other corners of the former empire were encouraged to take up the labour slack, and given that bankrupt Britain was always at the bottom for competitiveness amungst so called developed Western nations, they needed more cheap labour, such as thr Poles in the building game. Developers automatically increased their margins by 20%. We had entire factories staffed with East Europeans, no UK employees, and all jobs were advertised in Eastern European countries.
So this notion that immigration was about some new hunky dory community spirited society, was just propaganda.
But the most important reason for mass immigration is growth. So if you measure growth on pp, a typical established Brit might have get 3% growth, so last year they were 100%, or the baseline, this year they are 103%, but every immigrant from the moment they enter the UK, they register 100% pure growth for that first year. So really easy to see why 500k of immigrants per year makes the UK look like a growing economy.
On the back of 500k immigrants, you had austerity, cuts to public services, so this was a double edged sward.
Bankrupt Britain needed its immigration fix like a junkie, and they are still letting them in. It might be lower, but not by much, and now we face taking over 300,000 Nazified UKrainian, who are oh so into organised crime. Just another stunt to keep the City low productivity scam going.
The other big problem with East Europeans, inc UKrainians, is that they’ve been through decades of ultra intense US brainwashing. They have the European version of the US 1950s ‘Amerikan dream’. East Europeans believe they can achieve anything. Well, maybe, with body parts, drugs, trafficking, and vice.

It’s a typical face-saving device of retirée politicians; to insinuate that, in fact, they were the peoples’ champion all along, in cabinet meetings as elsewhere; despite the secretarial minutes, the conference records and Hansard, all saying otherwise. Self-exculpatory neuro-linguistics – no more, no less – to define the retrospective parameters available to future biographers, which will ultimately show that he, Jack Straw was an unrecognized man of integrity, alongside his heroes, Manny Shinwell and Greville Janner. With regards to David Blunkett, I disagree with Carl Jones that blindness should necessarily exclude someone from high-office. However, high-office should, per se, preclude all of those who are not competent to its demands, both in their comportment and by their intellectual capabilities. This prerequisite would not have prevented John Milton or Homer from attaining state’s office, nor, indeed, would it have impeded the blind Ronin, Zatoichi.
Rather, it was David Blunkett’s poverity of intelligence that should have mitigated against his political ascendency. His poor learning was revealed, in all of its shocking inadequacy, during his squirmingly embarrassing appearance on Celebrity Mastermind in 2003, when Blunkett finished last, against, shall we say, a less than challenging field. He passed on 8 of the thirteen general knowledge questions, answered three incorrectly and got two right.
Does anyone remember Blunkett’s chosen specialist subject?
Yep. “The Harry Potter books of J. K. Rowling.” (I kid you not.) Although, of course, there’s nothing wrong in itself, of memory-specialization in the ouevre of Harry Potter stories, this was the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom on Mastermind.
He scored nine additional points during his second round but still finished last, with a measly 11 points.

In all fairness, Blunkett couldn’t see what was going on. He had no foresight. Even now he doesn’t have hindsight. He wasn’t even the overseer of this. He was unseeing of the consequences. He was blind to the conspiracy that was happening. (Shall I shut up now?)
The “mistake” for degenerate traitors such as Blunkett and Straw was them willingly going along with the plan to flood and destroy the country with unskilled, uneducated, uncivilized mongrels and niggers.
It’s far too late for those scum to try to weasel out of the monstrous crimes in which they played willing accomplices. I would suggest a way to address this is a biannual sort of purge. In the intervening months, the migrants are identified who have demonstrated they are nothing but a drain on society, a degradation, or otherwise refuse to abide by the mores and standards of the communities they pollute, and every 6 months the citizens are allowed to hunt them down and remove them by perhaps giving them the option of being air-dropped back into the shit-holes from where they came or have their throats slit on the spot.
Of course, that purge goes for the politicians, bureaucrats, money junkies, and lying media whores as well. I mean, THEY are trying to destroy us every single day, so we get to try to kill them, without penalty, a mere twice a year.

andyay: I disagree, how can anyone function at the level of a UK minister with all the infighting, snide attacks, ‘visual’ nuances? Most of Bunkett’s beliefs are based on very limited data imputs. When someone says something, radio is fine, many say much more important stuff on the radio, because there’s no visuals. When they are on TV, they are much more careful. Why do football mangers and other sports sheeple cover their mouth on camera, its because the visuals with the audio, or lipreading tells you so much more, and this is why Blunkett was so flawed. Mr Innocent.
