Damage from Iranian strike at Camp Buehring Kuwait (on file)

PressTV – Oct 8, 2026

Iran’s “horrible” retaliatory strikes during the opening days of the US-Israeli aggression forced American forces to “abandon” Camp Buehring, a major US military facility in Kuwait, a report says.

Citing newly obtained videos and witness accounts, CBS News reported on Wednesday that most of the roughly 7,000 troops stationed at the base had moved elsewhere ahead of the war as part of what the Pentagon called “get off the X” plan.

However, the report added, some 100 soldiers stayed there despite running critically low on .50-caliber ammunition while not equipped to handle a mass-casualty event if the attacks continued.

“They hit us bad,” an unnamed source said. “It was horrible. There were a lot of brave guys who stayed to fight there — and people at home don’t know what happened. We had to abandon the base.”

‘I could see helmets of Iranian F-5 pilots’

Meanwhile, three US service members, who witnessed Iran’s reprisal attacks, said Iranian F-5 fighter jets participated in operations against Camp Buehring.

“They (the F-5 jets) ran so close to us I could see their helmets,” they added. “They came in, they hit us, and then took off.”

Additionally, a senior US Army official working in logistics, managing operations from another post in Kuwait, confirmed there were concerns about the availability of .50 caliber ammunition and Patriot missile batteries.

“The decision ultimately was to leave. Service members packed up, loading their vehicles with whatever equipment they could and drove at night deep into the Kuwaiti desert” and remained at forward operating bases, according to the report.

US officials with knowledge of the matter said no one was killed at Camp Buehring or at the forward operating bases, but several were injured, including two soldiers who were struck by lightning in desert sandstorms.

“Camp Buehring got demolished,” a source said. “They need to do an investigation. How come no one came to reinforce us?”

The US and Israel launched their illegal war of aggression against Iran on February 28.

Forty days later, on April 8, the enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid Iran’s resistance, successful retaliatory operations, and a powerful grip on the Strait of Hormuz.

In July, the US conducted waves of deadly air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, signed on June 17, to end the war.

In response, the Iranian armed forces launched devastating strikes against strategic American targets across West Asia and declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic.
