NEW YORK, USA – Apr 29, 2016: Breezy Point 9/11 Memorial, Queens, NY. Platform contains 29 glass etchings for each of the community members lost on 9/11 and a cross shaped piece of steel from WTC

Off-Guardian – Sept 15, 2026

It was a busy weekend of 9/11 talking points – both for truthers and “debunkers”, and quite a revealing one. As someone that has covered 9/11 informally for nearly 20 years, and formally for the last ten, I don’t recall this much clear pro-official story propaganda in long, long time.

This manifested as clear, planned disinformation  campaigns hitting the same talking points over and over again.

The pattern is quite telling. So much so it merits a special edition of our This Week series.

The “more accurate” 3D model

Again and again, from dozens of different accounts you would see this video…

Accompanied by some variation of this text: “The video footage is grainy and obstructed by smoke and debris, this new re-construction lets us see exactly how the towers came down”

The aim is to promote this visualisation ahead of the actual footage because it is “clearer” and let’s you see “exactly what happened” (a LOT of people use that exact wording).

Where did it come from? A YouTube channel called Kostack Studio, which makes various 3D renders and “damage simulations”, including this one, of WTC7 which is so inaccurate it’s farcical.

Interestingly this ‘recreation’ isn’t at source claiming to be a debunk of anything, And frankly, it doesn’t really look much like one, other than being slowed down which conceals  the near free-fall acceleration.  But the X accounts that shared it certainly gave it a debunking spin.

Most tellingly, this viral clip is not even new. It’s a cut down version of a video from at least a year ago. So why are all these accounts suddenly picking it up and sharing it?

The mis-labelled photo

Those “debunking” accounts who were not posting the completely anodyne CGI re-imagining were busily trying to debunk the idea that WTC was not seriously damaged before it collapsed, for which purpose they shared this photo…

Or sometimes this photo…

“Look, see! No wonder WTC7 fell down!”, they say.

The only problem being that neither of these photos is of building 7, they are both in fact the Deutsche Bank building which was far, FAR more damaged than building 7 and – most notably – did NOT fall down.

Why they are choosing to lie so brazenly I could not tell you, but since those lies were viewed millions of times and received tens of thousands of likes, I suppose it doesn’t matter.

The Denial of the Obvious

Another persistent talking point – mostly from professional “debunkers” like Michael Shermer is the recurring claim that there were no witnesses who reported explosions and or saw any molten metal.

This is a lie, see here:

And here:

And here:

Dozens – even hundreds – of witnesses statements and media interviews reported hearing explosions before, during and after the collapse of each of the three towers. Video footage of molten metal pouring out of the side of the building pre-collapse, and being recovered from the rubble post-collapse is easily available.

And yet the self-appointed  “experts” are out there simply claiming this never happened.

The Rehabilitated President

Another meme suddenly doing the rounds was “Dubya was the perfect president for this moment” and other similar sentiments. Posters  were regularly sharing a clip of him throwing the opening pitch at Yankee Stadium as if it was a famous moment in pop culture history.

And this wasn’t relegated to social media mumbling, FOX, USA Today and Yahoo all ran stories on the day itself variously calling the pitch “iconic” and claiming it “united the nation”.

Other oft-repeated takes included defending Bush’s reaction to the news, in words like “what was he supposed to do? just panic a classroom of kids?”

Which, obviously, isn’t the only alternative. And which, obviously, nobody has ever suggested he should have done.

*

The connecting theme for all these talking points is dilution of reality. To take the real and replace it with the unreal.

Mislabel a photo.

Use a simulation in place of a video.

Deny the evidence of hundreds of witnesses exists.

Re-write the legacy of a war-criminal President with faux nostalgia.

None of this is really new – but it is definitely an exerted and renewed effort.

Clearly, they think twenty-five years is long enough they can start to  seriously re-write history.
