I know you say that as a joke, but following your line it has to be said that there is an intriguing theory according to which the menorah may be connected with asian serpent people or serpent adoring people, who have a 7-headed cobra statue as object of worship. With its 7 heads (menorah has 7 candleholders) these statues remind a lot of the menorah. So, there may indeed be an ancient connection between the two.
