Moscow’s envoy to London, Ambassador Kelin
Luke Alsford – Metro.co.uk Aug 23, 2026
Russia has withdrawn its ambassador to the UK as the relationship between the two countries continues to deteriorate.
Long-serving Kremlin representative Andrey Kelin left his posting in London on July 21 after seven years.
However, Putin has not put forward any candidates to succeed him and embassy staff are understood to be in the dark about when a replacement might be appointed, according to The Sunday Times.
A spokesperson for the embassy accused the UK of choosing a ‘path of confrontation’ with Russia and said Kelin had made ‘considerable efforts to preserve contacts and channels of communication’ with Britain.
The statement added: ‘He left Britain in the hope that a more constructive and respectful dialogue could eventually be restored, should the UK reconsider its policies towards our country.
‘In the meantime, the embassy is headed by the chargé d’affaires.’
It is not clear whether the Kremlin intends to leave the top post vacant on a permanent basis, but the delay has sparked suggestions that Russia is trying to downgrade diplomatic relationships.
Kelin’s exit was announced on June 11, during an embassy party marking Russia Day.
That same day, the British ambassador, Nigel Casey, alongside French and German representatives, met with Russia’s deputy foreign minister to protest the war in Ukraine.
Tensions then boiled over last week after it was reported that British-made drones were used for the first time by Ukraine in strikes against Putin.
Russia’s embassy warned the UK could ‘face consequences’ for the support and said Britain would pay a ‘higher price’ if it became more involved in the conflict.
Andy Burnham then hit back and and said he would continue to ‘support Ukraine 100 per cent’ despite the threats.
A national security source told the Sunday Times that the refusal to appoint a new ambassador could be a deliberate signal from Moscow to express their anger at the UK’s ties to Ukraine.
‘They are basically saying “you guys don’t matter” and that, frankly, London and the UK don’t count for anything any more,’ the source said.
As ambassador to the UK, Kelin was a controversial figure who repeated pro-Kremlin propaganda.
In March, he denied a report by the Foreign Office and other European allies that poison from a dart frog had been used to kill the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Kelin repeatedly rejected accusations that Putin was behind a nerve agent attack which almost killed former spy Sergei Skripal.
Instead, he said the the novichok poisonings had been staged by the British government and secret services.
Other experts have stressed that a gap between ambassadors is not unprecedented.
John Foreman, the former British military attaché in Moscow, added: ‘But the embassy’s strident statement this week and the huge deterioration of bilateral relations since 2019 and since the start of the war in Ukraine make me wonder if they will permanently downgrade the relationship this time.’

> As ambassador to the UK, Kelin was a controversial figure who repeated pro-Kremlin propaganda.
LOL.
> In March, he denied a report by the Foreign Office and other European allies that poison from a dart frog had been used to kill the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Navalny died in a prison in Siberia, where he was sent after being convinced by the bwitish that if he went back to Russia, he’d become president. What kind of moron he was we’ll never know, but not as moronic as anyone who believes if poision darts.
> Kelin repeatedly rejected accusations that Putin was behind a nerve agent attack which almost killed former spy Sergei Skripal.
Skripal’s own daughter, who was there at the time, told you what happened. The bwitish obsession with James Bond is pathetic. The best quote was from the Russian’s when Navalny was hiding in Germany. They simply said that if they’d wanted him dead, he’d be dead, and they wouldn’t be fucking around with exotic poisons from the Amazon.

life in the old folks home
Ethel was a bit of a demon in her wheelchair, and loved to charge around the nursing home, taking corners on one wheel and getting up to maximum speed on the long corridors.
Because the poor woman was one sandwich short of a picnic the other residents tolerated her and some of them actually joined in.
One day Ethel was speeding up one corridor when a door opened and Kooky Clarence stepped out with his arm outstretched. “STOP!,” he shouted in a firm voice. “Have you got a license for that thing?” Ethel fished around in her handbag and pulled out a Kit Kat wrapper and held it up to him.
“OK” he said, and away
Ethel sped down the hall. As she took the corner near the TV lounge on one wheel, weird Harold popped out in front of her and shouted “STOP! Have you got proof of insurance?”
Ethel dug into her handbag, pulled out a drink coaster and held it up to him.
Harold nodded and said “On your way, Ma’am.”
As Ethel neared the final corridor, Tony Blair stepped out in front of her, Butt- Naked, and holding his dick in his hand.
“Oh, good grief,” yelled Ethel, “Not that Damn Breathalyzer Test yet again.!!!

Mr Harris, writing for the Daily Mail, said mobile phones with “generous” allowances for free calls are provided and there is a “wide” choice of meals, including veggie options. A “squadron” of minibuses are also laid on to take residents on visits to local towns, free National Trust sites including Braintree, Chelmsford and Colchester.

Spain’s migration crisis is about to be repeated across Europe
Story by Graham Keeley • 1
They are coming here and our government will let them in
Almost a month after tens of thousands of migrants crossed the border with Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, experts warn that such a crisis is likely to happen again. Images of 72,000 migrants streaming into the tiny Spanish territory in north Africa in late July sparked an international row. Of the 27 European Union states, 22 signed a letter condemning Spain, claiming its recent migration amnesty had acted as a “pull factor” destabilising the bloc’s borders. Most of the migrants moved on from Ceuta within 24 hours but about 8,000 are still in the territory of around 83,000, creating not only a problem for Spain but concern across Europe about what comes next.
Crime and disease follow them as they start to cross europe
