An RAF Typhoon takes off from British airbase in Cyprus to join air strikes against the Houthi.
Maira Butt – The Independent Aug 19, 2026
Iran is considering launching attacks on US military targets in Europe if President Donald Trump escalates the conflict, according to a report.
Sources close to Iran’s government told the Financial Times that potential targets included a British air base in Cyprus that was targeted by a drone in March.
Other countries in southeastern Europe such as Bulgaria, which approved US access to its Bezmer air base for refuelling last month, were also weighed up as a potential target for strikes.
It follows warnings that Tehran is considering switching to a “fully offensive” strategy, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday.
A deal between the US and Iran appears further away than ever as Trump declared the Strait of Hormuz as American territory on Tuesday.
Sharing a bizarre map of the region with a large blue circle around the waterway, he declared the vital shipping route “NEW US territory” on Truth Social.
Shortly after sharing the image, the US leader announced that there are “no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
“The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect,” he continued on the platform. “The Hormuz Strait is open and operating. All water mines have been removed or detonated.”
However, data shared by Kpler with The Independent shows that only ten vessels passed through on Monday, compared to 130 to 140 before the outbreak of war. Six commodity vessels crossed the strait on Tuesday, according to Kpler data seen by Reuters.
Iran had earlier said the shipping route is to remain closed until the US meet the conditions agreed in an interim deal, according to Iran’s top negotiator Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf in comments shared by state media.
Conditions include lifting a marine blockade and sanctions as well as releasing Iran’s frozen assets.
Saudi Arabia’s Aramco resumed oil loading from inside the Strait last week with more waiting to load, according to shipping data and trade sources who spoke to Reuters.
Tehran says it has reached an agreement with Oman over a plan for ships to transit the Strait and that they are now working to finalise details for a joint statement.
Muscat has been working on a resolution to reopen shipping through the waterway, which passes through both countries
On Monday, the US leader threatened to launch an attack on Oman as a 60-day period to negotiate a ceasefire deal expired.
“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s**t out of them,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News, after reports Oman and Iran are working out their own solution to control the strategic waterway.
He was later asked if he was out of patience with Oman and told reporters: “No, I don’t think they behaved very well, but we’d handle them very easily, just like we do other things.”
A deal appeared to be in sight after Iran and the US agreed to a 14-point memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan over two months ago.
But the agreement collapsed last month over different understandings surrounding a clause on the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran attacked three commercial vessels passing through the Omani corridor of the waterway. The US almost immediately revoked sanctions relief on Iranian oil sales and US Central Command launched a wave of strikes on more than 80 military targets in response.
Both sides accused the other of violating the ceasefire agreement.
The fifth clause of the MOU states that the Islamic Republic of Iran will “make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels, with no charge for 60 days only, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman, and vice versa.”
It adds: “The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles, and de-mining by the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be instated within 30 days.”
The confusion arises over the next section, stating that both sides “will conduct dialogue with the Sultanate of Oman, to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in discussions with other Persian Gulf Littoral States, in line with applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Iran says that this means that the governance of the strait remains under Iranian control and that passage without approval constitutes a violation but the US says that attacks on vessels are a violation of Tehran’s promise to allow commercial vessels unfettered access.

ISRAEL NOW READY TO TAKE TURKEY
Exclusive – Mossad chief, Syrian foreign minister discussed Turkish military deployments
Israel ready to attack sources say
By Timour Azhari and Rami Ayyub
Aug 19 (Reuters) – The head of Israel’s spy agency held a phone call with Syria’s foreign minister last week during which they discussed Turkey’s military presence in Syria, three people familiar with the matter said, just days before Israel bombed a Syrian airbase.
The August 14 call between Mossad spy agency chief Roman Gofman and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani is one of the highest-level contacts yet between Israel and the Damascus administration led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The Israeli prime minister’s office, which handles queries regarding Mossad, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did a spokesperson for Shaibani. After Israel attacked the Abu al-Duhur airbase on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Damascus was on the verge of permitting Turkish troops to deploy there, and had ignored Israel’s repeated warnings that such a deployment would pose a threat to Israel’s security. The sources said the issue of Turkish military supp The sources said the issue of Turkish military support for Syria dominated Gofman’s call with Shaibani four days earlier. The call centred on “Israeli inquiries about what (Turkey) was doing in terms of increasing their military presence, as well as the sale of weapons, provision of drones and other issues”, one of the sources said. A second source, a senior official, said Gofman used the call to ask about Turkey’s provision of arms to Syria’s army. A third source familiar with the matter confirmed the call took place, saying that they discussed Turkey’s military presence was to protect Syria. from the genocides in Gaza and Lebanon
Turkey’s defence ministry declined to comment and its foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

That would be so wonderful, if Iran could bomb tbe British air base in Cyprus. It is an incrediblty evil outfit, can anyone even count how many nations it has bombed? Its been used massively for US support over the Gaza Extermination Project. Go for it, Iran!
You’ve got to laugh. So now the ragheads are gonna start droning cyprus etc? And, let me guess, they won’t be able to “defend” themselves against the mighty drones either? And how long are all those “strings” they’re using to “control them” gonna have to be to reach all the way to the med?
Meanwhile, in the bit you’re not supposed to be looking at, the jewropean union is creating a whole new “defence” system, including, lo and behold, lots and lots of bombs and planes, along with a militarised “buffer zone” all along the border with russia. To “keep you safe”.
Can you say 2030?
Foresight. !
No need to watch all of this link unless you want to.
It’s annoying, As if only well spoken people can identify the issues albeit years too late,
that then gets ‘considered’ by the media & those who want us shackled.
I’m not from Bradford but very close by. The Alarm bell was ringing & the Trojan horse had spilled it’s guts by the late 60’s early 70’s. Older folks from the Cotton mill towns on the Lancastrian side would openly reiterate this.
I still say it, The ’50’s’ was the time the mindset that prevails now should have been the social contract, and the measures suggested NOW implemented back then.

Seems to me unlikely Iran would talk to the Telegraph instead of something with a wider reach like CNN because that would be picked up by more media outlets than a reactionary yellow rag.
In this 1min video one American bozo dressed in stars and stripes including his cowboy hat says in a southern drawl the US should just rough up Iran a little. Then the interviewer says just to be sure, can you point out Iran on this map? The bozo looks and says “somewhere around here” as he runs his finger around southern Europe and North Africa. The interviewer says “I think that’s Italy”, and bozo says all I know is it’s a grey bit somewhere in the Middle East. (c/o sonar21)

Record number of foreign migrants are benefit claimants
Story by Szu Ping Chan •
The number of foreign-born benefit claimants has hit a fresh high, days after Reform promised to ban claims by overseas nationals
who come here just to sponge
Almost 2.3 million migrants were claiming Universal Credit (UC) in May 2026, according to figures published by the Department for Work and Pensions, roughly 20,000 higher than a year ago.
citizens from the EU accounted for the biggest proportion of the total, with about half of the foreigners claiming Britain’s main unemployment benefit coming from the Continent.
while many come for free NHS treatment and operations and some for free dental treatment
Those with indefinite leave to remain, who have usually lived and worked in the UK , accounted for 233,000 of the total.
Foreign nationals can generally start claiming welfare on the same terms as British citizens once they are granted settled status or indefinite citizens from the EU accounted for the biggest proportion of the total, with about half of the foreigners claiming Britain’s main unemployment benefit coming from the Continent.
Asylum seekers are also eligible after they have been granted refugee status.
How dumb are the people of the world that they don’t see this whole thing as a manipulated series of engineered events?
Without Accountability there is NO AUTHORITY.
ACCOUNTABILITY IS THE REVOLUTION!
Man charged over terrorist attack at Manchester synagogue
Story by Mike Taylor
A man has been charged in connection with a terrorist attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, which killed worshippers Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby.
Worshippers Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby were killed when Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, a Syrian-born British citizen, drove into the gates of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on 2 October last year, and then began attacking with a knife, wearing a fake suicide belt
There will be much more of this until israel joins the human race and stops its terrorism
LOL..
Maira Butt… presumably short hand for my arse..
obviously the aim of the imbeciles running the iranian war effort have decide that the best way forward, having been mercilessly flying carpet bombed for months is to widen the theatre of operations…to include more carpet bombing nations.. that way blatherers like macgegregor and peepee escovitz can flesh out the narratives of iranian invinciblility and technological superiority..
whilst concealing the truth, like who they really whirk for..
it’s a bit like Hitler capturing the brit-ish army without firing a howitzer at dunkirk and letting them go…only to reach moscow the other way, turn back on himself and commit suicide in stalingrad..

Starmer in secret used the UK base in cyprus to help israel attack gaza ets
please iran bomb it when you finish off israel
British bases might well be specifically targeted. The people of Cyprus want the British gone and have done so for along time – memories of British atrocities against EOKA and the civil population are very much still alive. Making Cyrpus a target in Britains latest war is merely additional stimulus.
