This is the kind of instruction which would help from the pulpit. If I could only remember that holy presence two minutes after saying some prayers. But most of us don’t work as cooks or dishwashers in the kitchen, or out tilling fields, where you only use a part of your concentration, but maybe that is the way to practice – remembering that holy presence when we are doing simply things, or praying before doing something.
I heard an old priest on the internet a while ago saying that conversion really involved a change of attitude, but looking back on my own affairs it was more of a radical “either/or” choice”, but I guess there are all kinds, and that priest never had much to do with the dark side of things, with God showing you the difference.
Then there is that thing called “Providence” which I have found is really being led by God or his minions where doors are opened for you along the way – doors of situations obviously coordinated with the lives of others similarly guided.
As for “attitude”, there is also a great deal of truth in that aspect, because so easily we can fall into a bad attitude when we are doing physical chores and trying to get things done, such that when something goes wrong we get angry or sures, and really find ourselves blaming God. That kind of thing kind of separates ourselves from God, tying our souls down to entirely the wrong attitude, which is the very opposite of that inner conversion, going on every day, I suppose that old priest was talking aobut.
