Good call on C H Douglas. The essence of what he said was that the (people’s) government should issue money and not private banks. He was correct. A corollary of Douglas’s theory was that the government could issue a social dividend during a time of depression – because of the gold standard of the time – to expand the money supply. Monetary theorist Joseph Huber has trodden a similar path in respect of opposing privately created money.
Unfortunately, Douglas’s naming of “social credit” has a more contemporary insidious connotation linked to surveillance capitalism. The “alternative” media does the subject disservice by linking the modern idea of Universal Basic Income (UBI) to the Big Brother aspect. And yet again, I have to point out the lack of nuance in the “alternative media” that solidifies and perpetuates the dialectic of control through this conflation of ideas.
