A devastating new survey published Wednesday by the European Council on Foreign Relations reveals that only 11% of Europeans across 15 countries now view the United States as an ally, a historic low marking a dramatic collapse of trust in Washington’s role as a security guarantor. The poll, conducted in May 2026, shows confidence has plummeted from 22% just six months ago.
A crisis of credibility
Majorities in every surveyed country doubt that the United States would come to their defense if attacked. This signals a fundamental breakdown in the mutual defense guarantees underpinning NATO. The narrative portraying European nations as freeloaders ignores this reality: Europeans now see the U.S. not as a protector but as an unpredictable partner.
European defense awakening
Support for increased national defense spending has risen by four percentage points. Italy is the only country where a clear majority remains opposed to higher spending. Elsewhere, citizens are demanding their governments take defense more seriously—a direct repudiation of the claim that Europeans are unwilling to shoulder their security burdens.
Forty-seven percent of respondents back collective EU borrowing to fund defense initiatives, with support reaching 59% in Portugal and 56% in Denmark. This represents a fundamental shift. Europeans are considering building their own defense capacity independent of Washington. Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden report the highest support for buying European military hardware rather than American systems, posing a direct economic threat to America’s defense industrial base.
Poland stands alone
Poland is the sole outlier where a majority favors increased purchases of American weapons, reflecting its history and proximity to Russia. Germany, Italy and Hungary remain divided on whether to buy American or European weapons. This internal debate mirrors larger questions about whether Europe will remain tethered to an increasingly unreliable partner.
Resistance to cutting domestic programs for defense remains strong—63% in Italy, 59% in Austria and 56% in Germany. Voters want security but resist sacrificing social welfare. The survey reveals that Europeans are willing to borrow collectively for defense but unwilling to cut pensions or healthcare.
Energy independence and Russia
On energy policy, 44% of Europeans oppose resuming oil and gas imports from Russia despite rising costs. This reflects a remarkable strategic shift from pre-2022 attitudes. European publics have absorbed the lesson that energy dependence on Russia is a vulnerability, and they are willing to pay higher prices for independence.
Ukraine support persists but weakens
Most respondents continue to support Ukraine as an ally. However, support weakens when questions turn to sending peacekeeping troops or expanding EU membership eastward. European publics support Ukraine with money and weapons but hesitate at deeper military entanglement.
Majorities in every surveyed country except Bulgaria believe U.S.-European relations will improve when President Donald Trump leaves office. This is not about policy disagreements but about trust. European publics do not believe they can rely on Washington while Trump occupies the White House. This expectation may be naive, as American foreign policy has structural problems that transcend any single administration.
This survey represents the culmination of a decades-long erosion of faith in American leadership. The 1990s brought American unilateralism, the 2000s brought the Iraq War, and the 2010s brought the pivot to Asia. The 2020s brought the Afghanistan withdrawal catastrophe. The transatlantic relationship now sits at its lowest point in modern history.
Implications for NATO
The survey is particularly damaging ahead of NATO summits. NATO’s Article Five commitment requires mutual trust to function. If majorities in every European country doubt the United States would honor that commitment, the alliance’s credibility is fatally undermined. European leaders face a choice: pretend the alliance functions as designed, or build independent European defense capabilities. Their publics have already made that choice.
Only 11% of Europeans view the United States as an ally. Majorities doubt Washington would defend them. Europeans are shifting toward buying European weapons, borrowing collectively for defense and reducing dependence on American security guarantees. The transatlantic alliance enters its most dangerous period since World War II. The findings should shock every American leader who still believes Europe will follow Washington anywhere. They will not.

So mkultra is going well then. You now think america is weak and you have to build your army to “protect” yourself from Russia. Get your coffins ready for the body parts of your children when the war starts. Dumbasses.
They’re still not getting it. The US and Israel are the ones who attack. Russia’s advance into Ukraine hasn’t advanced beyond the borders of the old USSR, it’s stayed in its own territory while US-led NATO trespasses ever deeper into it, while Taiwan has always been a part of One China.
Taiwan is where the old Chinese elite fled to when Mao took over, and the US and the west would prefer them back in power because they’re a walkover. The west has always wanted what China produces and the real purpose behind the Crusades was to take control of the Silk Road. Religion was the cover to give it a semblance of piety but it was just another economic war, so Europe’s aristocracy and bishops could impose taxes on every exchange at every trading post. Jerusalem was where the 6,000 mile Road ended and was the sensible place to begin its takeover.
So it’s not “Will the US defend us if we’re attacked?” It’s “Will the US attack us?”
jewSA is the Enemy of Europa !
and enemy of rest of the world !
Majorities in every surveyed cuntry doubting that the Jewnited Staes would come to their defense if attacked, huh? True enough since they already are being attacked; attacked, degraded, and destroyed by hordes of nigger, street-shitter, and dune coon Orc rapefugees and other less than worthless scum. Same with the Jewnited States, of course, which already had a horrific nigger problem, and those niggers are more out of control than ever. Add to the shit mix the hordes of street-shitters and mestizo spics that have been pouring in.
Of course, the root of it all is the cuntries of Jewrope and North Americunt have a jew problem, which is why Shlomo and the satanic tribe from way down under have been aiding and abetting the Orc invasions, as more distractionary theater for the plebs and ignorati as they continue to be ignorant of the 8000 pound rabid hook-nosed gorilla slinging shit around the room and raping your children while sporting a yarmulke and holding a copy of the Protocols…
Prime example of guiding the sheep by the nose.
Of course the US cannot be trusted to pursue anything other than the interests of empire, and they want nothing more than slamming Europe and Russia into each other while extricating themselves from the blowback.
The answer to energy dependence is diversification, *including* reconciliation with Russia. Dependence on the US is the poison pill that drives the agenda forward, and Poland is the button to be pushed on demand. We’ve seen that playbook before.
If Europeans buy into this anti-russian rubbish, they will just be blamed after the fact as “the neonazi warmongers”. Russia, and the US, and the UK, including commentators on this site are setting up that narrative right now. Don’t buy it. This is an anglo-american project of empire, the “nazi” rhetoric sets up the blame game.
“Only 11% of Europeans across 15 countries now view the United States as an ally?” – are there that many left and where do they live? In Europe or oversees? Maybe they did ask the replaced “My Grant’s” in Europe if they like America.
Last time I went into town (a small regional town in Oz’s QLD) I went into a shop right on the Highway in the middle of the town that was selling Christian porcellanic figurines and illegal tobacco of course which was ordered into the shop after payment via a backdoor by another “middle eastern man”. So I asked them if they were from “Turkey” well knowing that one never asks a Kurd if he was Turkish. So, after a minute of silence and no answer I was suggesting “Syria” and one shook his head again and finally said Iraq. So I asked him if he likes Americans and he instantly without any hesitation said “Yes. Of course, they liberated Iraq” and afterwards he and his family moved to Australia and his sister’s extended family started a new life in Germany.
His shop and business in the meantime had been raided by coppers twice for “Tobacco sale”, but still was operating normally during “business hours”.
Lots of countries and their former identities are gone for good. What’s left of them is that just some people think of themselves as “Europeans or Americans” who seem to live in the past recalling their own memories of their fatherlands and write stories about the decay without looking into the mirror and mumbling: “Hey, all that could have never happened without YOU!”
“Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden show the highest support for buying European military hardware over American systems, posing an economic threat to the U.S. defense industry; ”
Why would you want American stuff with built in kill switches.
“On energy policy, 44% of Europeans oppose resuming oil and gas imports from Russia despite rising costs.”
And that shows how brain dead they are.
“European publics do not believe they can rely on Washington while Trump occupies the White House. This expectation may be naive, as American foreign policy has structural problems that transcend any single administration.”
Yeah it show they are dumb who don’t realize the President is only a puppet and the same ZOG power will still rule.
