On 8 May, the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters of Iran’s military announced that Tehran had responded to US ceasefire violations following Washington’s attack on two Iranian ships and heavy airstrikes along the country’s coast.
“The aggressive, terrorist, and pirate US military violated the ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker sailing from Iranian coastal waters near Jask toward the Strait of Hormuz, as well as another vessel entering the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Fujairah in the UAE. At the same time, with the cooperation of some regional countries, it carried out air attacks on civilian areas along the coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island,” a spokesman for the Iranian military announced.
The statement added that Iranian forces targeted two US military vessels, “inflicting significant damage” on them. It also said Iran would respond further to any new violations.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) characterized its ceasefire violations as “self-defense,” claiming Iranian forces initiated the escalation by launching missiles and speedboats at US vessels operating near Iran’s territorial waters.

Citing a senior US official, chief national security correspondent at the Pentagon for Fox News, Jennifer Griffin, reported on US attacks on Iran and then insisted, “this is NOT a restarting of the war.”
“They trifled with us today. We blew them away,” US President Donald Trump said, adding that the ceasefire remains in place. “I’ll let you know when there’s no ceasefire. Otherwise, you’d be seeing a big glow coming out of Iran.”
Hours later, state-linked Iranian hacker group Handala claimed US navy coordinates in the Persian Gulf have been handed over to the missile units of the Resistance Axis.
