Madrid’s growing interest in Türkiye’s KAAN stealth fighter following the collapse of its F-35 pathway is reshaping NATO’s combat aviation landscape and accelerating Europe’s search for strategic defence autonomy amid FCAS delays.

The emergence of preliminary negotiations between Spain and Türkiye over the KAAN at SAHA 2026 is rapidly evolving into one of NATO’s most strategically consequential combat aviation developments, because it signals a potential fracture in the long-standing transatlantic monopoly over fifth-generation fighter exports.
The confirmation by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu that the Spanish Air Force requested information regarding a “top-tier” fifth-generation fighter aircraft has intensified speculation that Madrid is now actively searching for a stealth-capable bridge solution outside the American defence-industrial ecosystem.
The geopolitical significance of the talks extends far beyond a potential aircraft transaction, because a successful agreement would position Türkiye as the first non-traditional NATO aerospace power to export an indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter into the European Union’s defence architecture.
The discussions emerged publicly during SAHA 2026 in Istanbul after Demiroğlu disclosed that government-to-government contacts coordinated through Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries had already entered an exploratory phase involving both political and technical evaluations.

I wonder how many “fighter planes” you’re supposed to have and how many you actually have. Most likely they fly them around the world to make a dozen look like a thousand. How, do tell, is turkey making them? Not known for its technology is it? Dates in dung sauce, but not “high tech” flying machines. Do they have their own computers too? Their own phones? TV? Internet? Toasters? I doubt they know how to wire a plug. But here they are, making “KAAN stealth fighters”. Is that KAAN from star trek? I wonder. And what’s a “stealth fighter”? Not only can they “out gun” american “top guns”, they’re stealthier too. You could crash a party at number ten in one and see queer boy starmer rear admiralling his “cabinet”. Here’s an idea: Are the tribe producing these “KAANs” and using them to show how the “other side” are just as good as you? Because, unless they run on elastic bands, they must be the same as yours in every way, right down to the half a million computer chips, which the turks aren’t known for making either. But no, that’s crazy talk. We all know there are good guys and bad guys. Just look at russia and the ukraine. Or batman and robin. Or tom and jerry. Only jerry is about a million times more likely to turn out “stealth fighters” than camel humpers whose main business is the drug trade and flying around on carpets.
F-35 superiority lasted until an idiot’s real war exposed the scam.
Anything bigger than a drone is a waste of time and money.
Simply more $$$ grifting for Military Industrial Complex .

True. The days of warships and conventional fighters/bombers is over.
