The fault is that in most people they have no unified sense or system of what right and wrong other than what is provided in their civil and criminal laws – over which they now have no real control. What has occurred in the West for over 100 years is the supplantation of our moral norms being based on the laws of God and the Christian Gospels, with a malaise of diverse standards which has been deliberately promoted in most higher-educational, secular institutions, under the idea of “moral relativism”, which essentially flows from the idea our norms of good and evil have no basis in reality whatsoever.
Moral relativism grew out of a view of “reality relativism” which became more and more shared and propagated by the secular ruling and educational establishments of the West. With no way to get from natural facts to moral norms, thanks to the promotion of David Hume and British empiricism, then with God being debunked and removed from Creation by Charles Darwin, and finally with God being put to death by Friedrich Nietzsche in the late-19th-century, the West very shortly lost all of its Christian moral restraints, as it waltzed into the 20th century – which became the “century of violence” according to the historian, Arthur Herman.
Not that horrendous evils did not occur in our history before then, or that most people were not similarly oblivious to the sufferings of others in more Christian times, but at least there was in the past a much-greater consensus as to what was good and evil coming from the more universal teachings of that faith.
I have often wondered that if according to Hume that “we cannot get from an ‘is’ to and ‘ought'”, just how or why the process of scientific verification, and then with the “theory of evolution” was ever any empirical authority to depose God ,Gospels, and natural law from our moral lives, and especially from the morality that we all ought to have a very broad neighbor principle, such that in the very least we do not do to others which we do not want done to ourselves. Instead, what we have been left with are our childish observations of our natures to become more and more prisoners of our own egos and fragmented selves, while at the same time fully endorsing, under the guise of moral relativism, the institutionalization of the most destructive norms of evil in the history of mankind – which include the following: “harnessed-greed”, “the-survival-of-the-fittest”, “the-master-race”, “might-makes-right”, “the-will-to-power”, and “get-rid-of-the-unwanted”.
In these days, the US is clearly the world leader in all of these things. It is the richest and most powerful nation, and it is also the most amoral, the most pragmatic, the most dishonest, and most crime-ridden nation likely in the entire history of the planet. Externally, it wages wars of destruction and plunder all over the globe, but very safely from a continent protected from invasion by two vast oceans on either side. It also “leads” the West in the pursuit of wealth and power having inherited its dominance in those matters following the decline of the British and French empires, and through the ever-increasing concentration, grasping, and consolidation by a certain international money power, which “coincidentally” is above all laws, without any moral limits, and which has institutionalized, or “harnessed”, throughout the 20th century until now, every one of those evil norms to advance its growth and exercise its controls over the rest of us. It is the true “anti-Christ”.
If it continues to rewrite the bible, as it is doing to promote its own interests and dominance, with the continued replacement of God for its own paramountcy (über alles), it will have to change the words of Psalm 49 to become more compatible with its own nature – perhaps to something like this:
“If in his riches man lacks power, he ought to become more beastly and destroy the competition.”
