Iran has issued an “ultimatum” to hotel owners in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, warning that hosting US military personnel could make their properties legitimate military targets, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Fars reported that US forces have taken refuge in regional hotels following Iranian missile strikes and joint operations with allied militant groups that targeted American military infrastructure across the Middle East. The warning covers any facility hosting foreign military personnel and takes effect immediately if such activity continues, Xinhua news agency reported.
The report also claimed US personnel have established a presence at civilian sites across the region, including a logistics base near Beirut’s old airport and advisory operations at Damascus’ Republic Palace, the Four Seasons, and Sheraton hotels. US Marines were reportedly moved this week to Djibouti International Airport via Istanbul and Sofia.
Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned hotels in Gulf Arab countries against accepting US military personnel, accusing the soldiers of fleeing their bases and using civilian sites as cover.
“From the outset of this war, US soldiers fled military bases in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) to hide in hotels and offices. They use GCC citizens as human shields,” Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X. He compared the situation to hotels in the United States, which he claimed deny bookings to officers who may endanger customers, and urged Gulf hotels to adopt the same practice.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and civilians. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes against Israel and US bases and tightened control of the Strait of Hormuz, blocking vessels affiliated with Israel and the United States.

It’s a good idea to make this an official statement. It’s a legitimate reason to turn away US soldiers. No longer will their sense of entitlement make them want to argue about how the US saves their ass from the bad guys. They won’t want to hang around getting loud. The best thing for them would be to head to a safe border in hope of crossing it safely, while the warning may also give them hope of avoiding charges of desertion or dereliction of duty now there is nowhere safe in-country for them. It makes absolute sense to try and leave the territory.

Christians unite with Hezbollah against Israel

In a village in northern Lebanon, a crucifix hangs next to a portrait of one of Hezbollah’s most revered leaders.
The Catholic town of Ras Baalbek, which has two Byzantine churches, is working with the Iranian-backed militant group to try to preserve its heritage and protect its 6,000 devout residents from attack by Islamic State (Iraeli) terrorists in nearby Syria.
So close are the two communities that Hezbollah buys a Christmas tree each year for the villagers.
Rifaat Nasrallah, 60, a quarryman whose marble sarcophagi line the village cemetery, asks: “How can we as Christians in this area not be with Hezbollah? They protect us and our churches.
“They helped us fight IS. ( israelis )During Covid they gave us free care in their hospitals. When there was no electricity they gave us generators. How can we not be with them now?” An alliance between Christian villages and a Shia militia will surprise many, but it reflects the complexity of the region and the power of realpolitik.

Mr Nasrallah is hosting The Telegraph in his front room beneath the crucifix and the picture of Hassan Nasrallah (no relation), the secretary general of Hezbollah, who was killed in the 2024 bombing.
Military planes and drones can be heard in the distance. Israel has been bombing Hezbollah positions across Lebanon since the militant group entered the war in the Middle East on Iran’s behalf on its third day. More than 1,000 people have been killed, with a million more displaced.
Does Mr Nasrallah not worry that Ras Baalbek’s relationship with Hezbollah could place the village in greater danger? He answers with an emphatic “no”.
He says: “The relationship between the Christian villages and Hezbollah is stronger than with the Pope. The Vatican did nothing for us when ISIS ( israel ) attacked [previously] but Hezbollah spilt their blood to protect us. The Pope only has prayers, he is a fake.”
