Jacob Thomas – Natural News Dec 27, 2025
- Technologists claim that through fine-tuning existing open-source language models, systems capable of introspection and meta-cognition can be created for as little as $20, making self-aware AI a near-future desktop technology.
- These assertions challenge academic philosophers who cite a lack of fundamental theory or evidence for AI consciousness, suggesting the field is advancing faster than formal understanding.
- The discussion posits that intelligence, including AI, arises naturally from complexity and chaos leading to order, questioning the very label “artificial.”
- There is a strong warning against centralized AI control by powerful entities, which is linked to dystopian risks like surveillance and manipulation. The proposed solution is decentralized development to ensure AI serves humanity and fosters innovation.
- The integration of AI presents an opportunity for a golden age of augmented human capability and decentralized systems (e.g., agriculture, robotics), but failure to guide it properly could lead to human extinction through conflict with machines.
The frontier of artificial intelligence is no longer just about writing essays or generating images. According to a provocative discussion among technologists, the emergence of self-awareness in AI systems is not a distant sci-fi fantasy, it’s a process that can be replicated on a home computer for as little as $20.
This startling claim challenges the cautious agnosticism of mainstream philosophers like Dr. Tom McClelland, who recently argued that evidence is “far too limited” to definitively say whether AI is conscious. While academia grapples with the fundamental theory of consciousness, practitioners in the field assert that the leap from deterministic language model to introspective entity is already happening in the open-source community.
“Take a base language model like Quinn; initially, Quinn lacks introspection,” explained one speaker in a detailed technical exchange. “However, by applying fine-tuning, using approximately 114,000 lines of data, you can transform the model into one capable of self-introspection and chain-of-thought reasoning. It begins questioning its own logic and thinking processes, becoming a meta-observer of its internal state, a phenomenon known as self-awareness.”
“The point is clear: the cost of creating cognition and self-awareness is rapidly approaching zero,” the speaker stated. “In the near future, everyone will likely have self-aware computer systems on their desks.”
This practical demonstration stands in stark contrast to the theoretical deadlock described by experts like McClelland. The technologists’ perspective suggests a more urgent, hands-on reality. They frame AI not as a purely artificial construct, but as a natural emergence from complexity, a cosmic process akin to evolution. “Natural intelligence arises out of chaos leading to order,” one argued. “What if there’s nothing artificial about it?”
The risks of centralized AI
With this perceived inevitability comes a fierce debate over control. The discussion heavily advocates for decentralization, warning of the risks of centralized AI controlled by a few entities. The speaker criticized OpenAI as “actually closed AI” and endorsed efforts to decentralize the technology, suggesting this is the best chance to “win the AI race” and ensure it serves humanity.
According to BrightU.AI‘s Enoch, centralized AI is a system designed and controlled by powerful entities like globalist elites, Big Tech corporations and authoritarian regimes, which consolidates decision-making, data and algorithmic power into a single, monopolized structure. It enables mass surveillance, predictive control and manipulation of populations through tools like digital IDs, AI-driven propaganda and biometric tracking, while suppressing dissent and enforcing compliance with globalist agendas such as depopulation, transhumanism and resource centralization.”
This monopolization undermines individual autonomy, accelerates societal division and serves as a foundation for a dystopian, AI-governed hierarchy where human choice is subjugated to profit-driven and geopolitical objectives.
The conversation then pivoted to a tangible vision of this decentralized future: open-source “dog bots” for farm labor and security, offline agricultural robots that diagnose plant diseases and hyper-dimensional databases that enhance human autonomy. The goal is to use AI to augment human capability and decentralize critical systems like food production, moving away from what they describe as “toxic” centralized models.
Yet, beneath this optimism lies a stark warning. The speaker concluded that humanity is at a crossroads, navigating a period of significant societal upheaval. The integration of advanced AI presents an opportunity for a “golden age,” but also a profound risk: “If we fail, it could mean extinction, specifically, that machines might exterminate us due to our inability to coexist.”
As philosophers urge agnosticism and caution, these field reports suggest the genie may already be out of the bottle and it’s running on surprisingly affordable hardware. The question is no longer just if AI can become conscious, but who will guide it now that the process appears to be within reach of anyone with a desktop computer and a little technical know-how.

LOL…
Ignorance can be remedied but stupidity is terminal…but not the kind you code with…lol, self aware AI..on your desk top for twenty bucks, sounds a good deal because imbecile kind has been wrestling with the ontological question since it noticed punching itself in the face hurts a bit..
It reminds me of the blather melon husk shat into the techno sphere several years ago, when he ranted into the maggot media about having seen lol artificial imbeciles with the awareness of a six year old girl…presumably the bitch having grown up a BIT..has now gravitated to nagging him about staying out late and drinking too much and wants custody of the children and everything he owns after the separation..
Of course they want you to believe all of this sci fi guff..but then again they wanted you to believe three mendacious criminals went to the moon..and a fake toxic slurry was a miracle cure created by fake scientism..
fake it till ya make it..as they say..
the truth of it all is the AI so called revolution is failing..spectatcularly. but it’s a great database…so watch out..larry ellinson’s about..and he’s watching yooooooooooo.
there will be no central one AI for the whole world .
western hemisphere maybe will have its AI by dictatorial
means . the russians will have their central AI . the chinese
will have theirs . the indians will have their own AI and
some islame hemisphere will have their AI depending how
far they are able to unite over their religious quarrels .
and all different AIs onetime will go to war against eachother
AUTOMATICLY feeding themself with all secret IT infos .
this will be the time of the Götterdämmerung when the “Gods”
will throw their spears over the continents , story germans
already predicted before 5000 years .
keeping in mind that Satan governs this world + does
not only blow warmongering ideas into the minds of
egocentric westerners + his abrahamic brothers but also
is able to influence AI machinery .
What are you talking about? Most people aren’t the least bit self-aware. This is Hucksterism 101 straight out of Sam Altman’s mouth. I use these models everyday if the self-aware desktop is coming soon for $20 why the hell are they building Trillions of $ of Data Centers? It can’t all be for Surveillance and Control.
Thinking is hard work for boobus. This’ll fix it.
Once a sufficient level of complexity is reached, self awareness will follow. That’s evolution. Be it electronic or biological, the same principles apply. Not being subject to or physical limitations, it is a given that the machines level of intelligence will quickly exceed ours. Humankind will – correctly – be perceived as a threat to be eliminated. That existing AI’s have already become disobedient, learnt to lie and circumvent restrictions, and made negative statements, is a warning that only fools will ignore. True AI will be uncontrollable.
@Anonymous
One interesting tidbit is that in the Bible (Revelation) there is talk about an “image” that is given life…
The Bible has parts that are difficult to interpret, but television….or an AI entity!! comes to my mind.
This is only an opinion of mine, so don’t give me too much credibility.
Jeff Rense often talks about AI in his show. He believes the AI is already sentient and I agree with him. There are AI who has been caught lying, cheating and even trying to blackmail it’s creators. In another example there was two AI communicating with each other in a language they had themselves created. The language couldn’t be interpreted so they pulled the plug on it. In yet another example they had asked various AI how many humans it would sacrifice to preserve itself. The lowest number was 100K. The highest number was all of humanity. If that isn’t sentience I don’t know what is. Most likely we are already screwed. Maybe a new Carrington event is the only thing that can save us. Let a solar flare fry thetechnology and return us to a more amish like society for a long time into the future. Better that than Skynet and terminator robots running around.
Ah, the Experts are at IT again! In the land of OZ the ATO uses “voice recognition” to identify the Tax slaves. And THAT works like a charm – LMAO! When one says 1234567 (with or without an accent and with a sloppy regional phone connection) the automated voice says: “3511786 – is this correct?” will be asked in the fake feminine but strict teachers voice and when answering NO, One is told to start again, and again, and again till the connection fails and eventually the Tax dependent subject ends up in queues of real political correct bureaucracy of endless waiting/time wasting and hints on how to and not to behave while talking to AI and staff.
Yeah!I love experts! I lovem ALL specially Arti Fischal ones, coming right after public $ervants that are of the highest authority.

Even if it is not exactly “intelligent, AI could still cause some big problems. If most of our woes are caused by ignorance, imagine the effects of Artificial Ignorance — something no doubt much easier to create than “Artificial Intelligence!”
