NEWS FROM THE TRENCHES
When i was first at work
i liked to talk to the old boys who were in WW1
Jack Sandal was in a 3 man machine gun team
he would feed in the bullets, the gunner was an amazing marksman
Jack said the men decided not to shoot to kill, as the German soldiers like our men were only fighting for a criminal government.
He told me one time the 3 men were at their post when he saw a big German soldier running toward them, he said ” look at this silly sod charging a machine gun post, what’s wrong with him” ?
George said look we are going to have to shoot him
They put a volley right beside his feet, still he came
they decided to shoot him in the legs, that way when the war was over he could go back home to his family.
Men who refused to fight were made ” stretcher bearers ”
they would have to walk about the battle field collecting the wounded
life expectancy was les than 3 weeks
I heard from one old boy a committed Christian that while on the battle field with shells and bullets around them, they came across a wounded German soldier no older than about 15, he said we could not leave him i had a boy that age at home, we lifted him onto the stretcher and walked towards the German lines, the German soldiers saw we had a wounded boy and helped lift him down into the trench
suddenly a senior German officer was beside us, and with tears in his eyes and in broken English thanked us as it was his nephew
He said stop firing until we were well away.
Apparently the German soldiers were told walk toward the British machine guns, the gun barrels would glow red hot with all the killing, the men would throw a cloth over the gun barrel soaked in urine
it stunk but helped cool the guns down.
Then it would go quiet and the British would go over the top and walk toward the German machine guns, this madness was carried out day after day.
In August 1914 Jack said they all saw the Angels of Mons
the angels in the sky, i replied i thought it was just a story by the poet Arthur Machen ? he said no we all saw it we thought it was the archers from Agincourt.
Some men rushed to bring ” Holy Joe” Joseph was wounded and on a stretcher but it was said he understood this stuff, he looked and said
The angels message was for all soldiers British and German to stop the killing, it was for everybody
The British war office squashed the story as nonsense and blamed it on battle fatigue, but the 3 men in the machine gun team saw it plain as day.
CHRISTMAS EVE TRUCE
Peace broke out men of both armies were sick of the killing Photography was discouraged in the trenches, but many photos were taken especially during the truce. Thanks to those photos and the written accounts of the soldiers in their letters and diaries, newspapers the world over began to publish accounts of the truce at the end of December 1914, when soldiers of both armies sang together
” Silent Night” then coming out of their trenches met together in no mans land and greeted each other with a game of football
Russia’s designers can apply themselves to building great aircraft, not wonder how many years they must do this sh!t until their huge university loans are paid off and Maybe I should have gone into Wall Street and earn real money instead? If building aircraft is your calling then in Russia go ahead and do that. You can enjoy your work, create amazing aircraft and still afford a decent family life. In America only a job in high finance can pay for a family life. F**k the planes.
all jetpilots sitting in those coffins are megalomaniacish
idiots to trust not to be hit by any missile waiting for
them in the electronic kosmos .
