Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has likened Britain to East Germany as she lamented an erosion of “free speech” during her latest speech on the state of the UK.
The second instalment of the weekly Liz Truss Show on Youtube saw Truss spend 54 minutes discussing the “woke” agenda that has overtaken the police and the judiciary and claim that you could now be arrested for “expressing perfectly normal views online”.
Truss, who spent just 45 days in office, said that peopl4 were “afraid to step out of the mainstream, for fear of being arrested”, and that “hate crime cases and cracking down on free speech” was being prioritised by police “over burglary and rape”.

Eamonn Holmes has slammed television bosses as he believes they are scared of hiring ” normal” presenters. The GB News host, 66, also ripped into fellow TV presenters, who he claims pretend to get along when they don’t like each other off-screen. He made the comments during an appearance on his son Declan’s new podcast, Founder&Family Collective, on Friday.
“There’s so many weirdos presenting TV programmes,” he said, arguing that executives will often see someone appear on a reality show and decide they are “good enough to present anything, which of course you’re not”.
Eamonn told his son that he knew he wanted to be a broadcast journalist from the age of 10, but no one around him believed it was a realistic ambition.
He suggested that that sense of having to force open doors shaped how he approached the job, meaning he worked hard and refused to be a passive “script reader”.

The number of households paying the licence fee has fallen substantially over recent years, dropping from 25.2 million in 2020 to 16.8 million in 2025.
At its present rate of £174.50 annually, the licence fee generated £3.8 billion for the broadcaster last year.
BBC Studios, the corporation’s production arm, contributed an additional £2.2 billion in revenue.
As things stand, the licence fee is projected to rise to nearly £200 by the end of the decade.
The annual charge will jump from £174.50 to just under £197 if it continues to track inflation, the Office for Budget Responsibility forecasts.

Plans for a huge 7,000-home development in Silvertown have been approved by councillors in Newham.
The development for MP housing is on vacant land at the south-east corner of Royal Victoria Dock
MP housing is Migrant Priority and will include up to 7,172 homes, a primary school, leisure facilities, shops and restaurants.
Jess Wallis of developer Silvertown Partnership told councillors the scheme would “bring this significantly under-utilised part of Newham back to life”.
Councillors on the strategic development committee voted to grant planning approval to the development at a meeting on Tuesday (9th).
