Failed asylum seekers criminals at Scotland’s only immigration removal centre were treated to a spa day, a football tournament and took part in bingo nights while waiting for deportation, a report has found.
An inspection of Dungavel House in Lanarkshire found detainees enjoying a packed nine-hour daily leisure schedule, complete with a cinema room, barber salon and even a social hub, while waiting to be removed from the UK.

The report, by Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor, praised the ‘purposeful, friendly and equitable’ relationships between staff and the 150 detainees held at the former Duke of Hamilton hunting lodge.
Every new arrival is issued with a basic mobile phone, £5 credit, and daily texts advertising the activities on offer.
It goes on to shed light on a spa day for female detainees, five-a-side football for men, plus popular pastimes including games nights, bingo, card games, gym access and film screenings.
The report stated: ‘Detainees could participate in a wide and appropriate range of activities during the day and evening sessions, which totalled nine hours a day, including weekends.
