With regards to the African slaves I would say that modern blacks in developed countries have benefitted from slavery because but for slavery they would still be impoverished in Africa instead of living in rich European countries enjoying the associated bounty.
Even the Africans who were enslaved by their fellow Africans and sold to European or Jewish slave traders benefited from having to work on a farm with all associated benefits like regular meals.
The only really brutal part was the sea passage. But we should remember that sea passage was awful for every traveller in those days.
