The two-year-old legal case is set to incur even more costs after the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) this weekend confirmed the Supreme Court has granted the agency leave to appeal its failed High Court action. And depending on the outcome of the appeal, the costly legal row could be referred to the European Court of Justice for a final decision.
The landmark IHREC case was taken two years ago, when homeless asylum seekers camped on the streets of Dublin because they had nowhere else to go. The High Court originally ruled in favour of IHREC, finding the State had breached the right to dignity of asylum seekers without accommodation
