A commenter elsewhere had a good point recently when he said all the money spent on massive forces and matieriel, and now these armies are being beaten by toy planes. Take America, beaten by men in pyjamas (their words) in Vietnam, and men in sandals in Afghanistan; and now they want war with Russia which has experience of drone warfare while the US hasn’t. Sure, it is involved in the Ukraine war and Ukraine has drone warfare experience, but as the US has to hide its covert activities from the Russians as much as possible so their men aren’t killed or captured, and have to pretend they’re not there when they are, it’s that peeking from behind the curtain which means they’re not so hands-on as to be experienced with drones.
If the US goes to war against Russia then Russia has the advantage in drone warfare. But if they go to war against Venezuela what little they learned about drones won’t do them much good in jungle warfare, because drones can’t see far in jungle so they lose their tactical application as tools to spot enemy troops from afar. One thing they may have a use for is to explore the ground ahead to look for booby traps, but that would be incredibly slow-going and that loss of mobility must itself add to the danger.
