I believe Cayce, when still a little kid my best friends were neighbours dogs I took out for daily walks, Pax, a bully of a boxer, who took me for rides when he spotted rivals, and Ilonka, a sweet golden retriever. We had a dog, Poetrie, but all I remember is he vanished and my sister asking my father where Poetrie was who than said he brought him to mrs Underwater at the Amstel. Many years later the thought of him suddenly popped in and I realised what happened.

I was aware of Cayce’s readings about dogs. I’ve read Rupert Sheldrake’s “Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home” as well. My copy’s got an endearing photo of a shaggy terrier on the cover. I love dogs. They’re among the best friends that I’ve ever had.

Our newest pup got very protective of me when I got home from open heart surgery. She now greets me when I finally do arise from bed as if I just got home, she gives me the sniff-down, then has a drink of water.
