Iran unveils new generation ballistic missile

Jacob Magid and Reuters – Times of Israel June 10, 2025

The top US military commander for the Middle East says he has presented US President Donald Trump with military plans to strike Iran and is prepared to do if so ordered.

“I have provided the secretary of defense and the president a wide range of options,” Central Command head Gen. Michael Kurilla says during testimony before the House Armed Services Committee.

Kurilla was responding to Representative Mike Rogers of Alabama, the chairman of the committee, who asked if CENTCOM was prepared to respond with overwhelming force if Iran does not permanently give up its nuclear ambitions.

“I take that as a yes?” the Alabama Republican asks, after Kurilla responds.

“Yes,” Kurilla says.

In other words the U.S. is preparing to strike Iran if it doesn’t comply with Washington’s demands. That means that we could be heading for some sort of military intervention because Iran has made it abundantly clear that it will not acquiesce to Washington’s insistence that it abandon the uranium enrichment process.

Iran is adamant about this.

So unless Trump performs a sudden about-face, for which he has become famous, this means that the U.S. and Iran are heading towards some sort direct military confrontation

In the meantime, Iran continues to beef up its military in anticipation of a conflict that many now see as inevitable.

The message from Tehran is clear. If the U.S. tries to throw its weight around Iran will hit back. And it now has the means to do so

Iran says it successfully tested missile with two-ton warhead

Iran’s Defence Minister, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, said the country carried out a successful missile test last week involving a two-ton warhead, calling it a significant boost to national defence capabilities.

“We have made very good progress in defence affairs. Our operational forces are fully equipped,” Caliber.Az quotes Nasirzadeh as saying per Iranian media

“Our most recent achievement came last week when we successfully tested a missile carrying a two-ton warhead, with excellent results,” he added.

The missile test forms part of Iran’s wider strategy to strengthen its military preparedness amid continued tensions in the region.

According to a Wall Street Journal report earlier this month, Iran has procured large volumes of ammonium perchlorate—a key solid‑rocket propellant—from China (via Hong Kong), enough to produce up to 800 ballistic missiles. These materials may also support allies like the Houthis in Yemen.

Analysts note that since 2017, Iran has carried out hundreds of ballistic and cruise missile launches, targeting areas like Syria, Iraq, Israel, and Saudi Arabia—as part of its ongoing strategic deterrence efforts.
