Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called for the rebuilding of a Jewish temple on the site of Al-Aqsa Mosque and for the expansion of Israel’s borders and Jewish settlements in Gaza.
In speech addressing crowds at a Jerusalem Day rally on Monday, which celebrates Israel’s occupation of the old city of Jerusalem, Smotrich also called for “complete redemption” and reconstruction of “the Temple here,” referring to Al-Aqsa Mosque, which settlers had raided earlier.
“We are conquering the Land of Israel, liberating Gaza, settling Gaza and defeating the enemy,” Smotrich said to crowds that had chanted “death to Arabs” as they marched through Jerusalem’s Old City and attacked Palestinians.
“With God’s help, we will expand Israel’s borders, bring about complete redemption, and rebuild the Temple here,” he said.
Smotrich also reiterated his calls for Jewish settlement in Gaza, declaring that “Israel is not afraid of the word occupation”.
“Some people are afraid of victory. We are not afraid of victory,” he said. “Lets give strength to our brave and heroic fighters”.
“Are we afraid of victory? Are we afraid of the word occupation?” Smotrich demanded, to which the crowd responded with a resounding “no”.
Smotrich has long advocated for extending Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and Gaza, and across the Middle East as part of his vision of a “Greater Israel”.
Earlier this month, Smotrich vowed that “Gaza will be entirely destroyed” and its Palestinian population will “leave in great numbers to third countries”.
He also declared that Israel would “apply sovereignty” in the occupied West Bank before the next Israeli general elections in October 2026.
“Within a few months, we will be able to declare that we have won. Gaza will be totally destroyed,” Smotrich said. “In another six months, Hamas won’t exist as a functioning entity.”

Irish President Michael D Higgins said accusations that those who criticise the murderous policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are “antisemitic” is a “slander”.
He said the slander has been used against Ireland and individuals, including the president himself. Speaking at the Bord Bia Bloom in Phoenix Park in Dublin, Mr Higgins said there is an active jewish campaign against Ireland in the United States. He said that it “breaks my heart” that there are countries who are holding back on a ceasefire.
Mr Higgins said that apart from the mass murders more than 81% of the people in Gaza have been displaced.

“Their hospitals and schools have been bombed.”
Mr Higgins, who lasted visited Gaza in 2006, also spoke about the importance of the bakeries in the region. And he was critical of the Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, saying it was an “entirely unaccountable body”, whose executive director resigned last week.
Jake Wood, the American heading the foundation, unexpectedly resigned earlier this week, saying it had become clear that the foundation would not be allowed to operate independently. Mr Higgins added: “One of the things you should look at is what is in the boxes they are distributing. Far from me to speak about any delay in anyone getting any relief but they are branded products for the future private sector of retail.

Ireland to lodge letter of objection to Israel over shots fired at their patrol

Ireland is to lodge a formal letter of objection with Israel after shots were fired at peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.
The incident came during a joint Irish United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) and Lebanese Armed Forces patrol close to the Blue Line on Thursday. None of the Irish personnel – who were recently deployed to Unifil as part of the 126th Infantry Battalion – were injured in the incident.
Oglaigh na hEireann ( irish ) said on Thursday that all personnel were reported to be safe and well, and that they continued to monitor the situation in southern Lebanon. Irish Minister for Defence Simon Harris said he had been briefed by the incoming chief of staff Brigadier General Rossa Mulcahy.
He said just before midday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) had been firing shots into the patrol area.
He also confirmed that a formal letter of objection from Ireland would be lodged with Israel via the UN on Friday.
