President Trump reportedly decided to end his short-lived war on the Houthis after being informed that the US had “burned through weapons and munitions at a rate of about $1 billion in the first month alone” and couldn’t even establish air superiority.
From The New York Times, “Why Trump Suddenly Declared Victory Over the Houthi Militia”:
When he approved a campaign to reopen shipping in the Red Sea by bombing the Houthi militant group into submission, President Trump wanted to see results within 30 days of the initial strikes two months ago.
By Day 31, Mr. Trump, ever leery of drawn-out military entanglements in the Middle East, demanded a progress report, according to administration officials.
But the results were not there. The United States had not even established air superiority over the Houthis. Instead, what was emerging after 30 days of a stepped-up campaign against the Yemeni group was another expensive but inconclusive American military engagement in the region.
[…] [Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, the head of Central Command] proposed an eight- to 10-month campaign in which Air Force and Navy warplanes would take out Houthi air defense systems. Then, he said, U.S. forces would mount targeted assassinations modeled on Israel’s recent operation against Hezbollah, three U.S. officials said.

Saudi officials backed General Kurilla’s plan and provided a target list of 12 Houthi senior leaders whose deaths, they said, would cripple the movement. But the United Arab Emirates, another powerful U.S. ally in the region, was not so sure. The Houthis had weathered years of bombings by the Saudis and the Emiratis.
By early March, Mr. Trump had signed off on part of General Kurilla’s plan — airstrikes against Houthi air defense systems and strikes against the group’s leaders. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth named the campaign Operation Rough Rider.
At some point, General Kurilla’s eight- to 10-month campaign was given just 30 days to show results.
In those first 30 days, the Houthis shot down seven American MQ-9 drones (around $30 million each), hampering Central Command’s ability to track and strike the militant group. Several American F-16s and an F-35 fighter jet were nearly struck by Houthi air defenses, making real the possibility of American casualties, multiple U.S. officials said.

That possibility became reality when two pilots and a flight deck crew member were injured in the two episodes involving the F/A-18 Super Hornets, which fell into the Red Sea from the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman within 10 days of each other.
[…] the cost of the operation was staggering. The Pentagon had deployed two aircraft carriers, additional B-2 bombers and fighter jets, as well as Patriot and THAAD air defenses, to the Middle East, officials acknowledged privately. By the end of the first 30 days of the campaign, the cost had exceeded $1 billion, the officials said.
So many precision munitions were being used, especially advanced long-range ones, that some Pentagon contingency planners were growing increasingly concerned about overall stocks and the implications for any situation in which the United States might have to ward off an attempted invasion of Taiwan by China.
And through it all, the Houthis were still shooting at vessels and drones, fortifying their bunkers and moving weapons stockpiles underground.
[…] On April 28, the Truman was forced to make a hard turn at sea to avoid incoming Houthi fire, several U.S. officials said. The move contributed to the loss of one of the Super Hornets, which was being towed at the time and fell overboard. That same day, dozens of people were killed in a U.S. attack that hit a migrant facility controlled by the Houthis, according to the group and aid officials.

Then on May 4, a Houthi ballistic missile evaded Israel’s aerial defenses and struck near Ben-Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv.
On Tuesday, two pilots aboard another Super Hornet, again on the Truman, were forced to eject after their fighter jet failed to catch the steel cable on the carrier deck, sending the plane into the Red Sea.
By then, Mr. Trump had decided to declare the operation a success.
Houthi officials and their supporters swiftly declared victory, too, spreading a social media hashtag that read “Yemen defeats America.”
If Trump had read a bit more about the Houthis this whole war could have been avoided but at least he had the wisdom to cut his losses.
This could have been a lot worse if the Houthis managed to down a US fighter jet or sink an aircraft carrier. The claim the Truman had to make a “hard turn” to avoid incoming Houthi fire clearly implies they were under a serious threat.
I strongly suspect Trump’s purported anger with Israel is being driven in large part by this humiliating defeat. This was a war exclusively for Israel and it blew up in the Trump administration’s face.

Eurovision 2025 is officially underway, with several nations competing for a chance to become the next champion. However, the competition has been marred with controversy surrounding Israel’s inclusion in the contest because of its genocide policies in palestine. Last week, more than 70 former Eurovision contestants signed a letter calling on the organisers to ban Israel from the competition amid the ongoing bombing and starvation of Gaza
Over 200 people protested in the host city of Basel on Wednesday (May 14), demanding an end to Israel’s military offensive and the country’s expulsion from Eurovision. In previous years, other countries have been banned from the contest. Belarus was suspended in 2021 after submitting an overtly political entry, before Russia was barred a year later over the war in Ukraine.
Eurovision said it understood the concerns and views about the genocide in palestine, but insisted that members should ensure the contest remained a “universal event that promotes connections, diversity and inclusion through music and ignore the millions of deaths”.
Going up against a people who have no air force should give you immediate air supremacy, but not even being able to establish air superiority over them as if they do have planes is the definition of being beaten. It’s also proof Iran made a wise decision to pursue missile defences instead of possibly bankrupting itself developing multiple aircraft for various roles. Building aircraft killers instead just makes so much sense.

Ben & Jerry’s co-founder dragged out of Senate
The co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s has been arrested after disrupting a Senate hearing with a pro-Gaza protest.
Ben Cohen, of the famous ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s, was one of seven people arrested at a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing on Wednesday, Sky News’ US partner NBC News reported. Robert F Kennedy Jr was speaking to the committee when the protests started with someone shouting: “RFK kills people with AIDs!”
“When Bobby lies, children die,” is also heard, as well as: “Anti-vax, anti-science, anti-America” in reference to Mr Kennedy’s vaccine views.
Police quickly flooded into the room and began dragging out protesters. Moments after, Mr Cohen got to his feet and accused the US government of playing a role in the deaths of thousands of children in Gaza.
The ice cream boss can be seen in footage of the incident on his feet, gesturing as he shouted at the US health secretary.
“You’re killing poor kids in Gaza and paying for it by cutting Medicaid for kids here,” shouted Mr Cohen.
He is one of the last protesters hauled out of the room.
But even as he’s removed, he can still be heard shouting.
“Congress and the senators need to ease the siege. They need to let food into Gaza. They need to get food to starving kids,” he said.
The other six protesters were charged with resisting arrest and assault on an officer, NBC News said. Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Cohen had attended a pro-Palestine event with Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib.
Afterwards, Mr Cohen tweeted out a video of the incident, saying: “I told Congress they’re killing poor kids in Gaza by bombing and starvation and they’re paying for it by kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the US.
Mr Cohen is no stranger to protests or getting arrested.
Israel has killed around 53,000 Palestinians during its war with Hamas, many of them women and children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
The Gaza health ministry does not distinguish between civilians and resisters in its count, but said that much more than half of the fatalities are women and children.
It is said the real death toll in Gaza is higher because thousands of bodies remain buried under the rubble or in areas that medics cannot access.
The fighting began after the militant group were enticed in across the border in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking around 250 hostage.
since Israel broke a ceasefire on 18 March, almost 3,000 people have been killed, the ministry said.
The Israeli military has claimed, without evidence, to have killed 17,000 resisters
Thankyou Ben Cohen

The son of a close friend aged 20
desperate for any kind of work
and seeing it all to migrants
answered an ad in the papers.
It was for a dozen male teenagers
he said he was aged 19
The dozen all met up at a big house in North London
where they were told they would be serving boys
in roman costume at a big party.
So on the night they duly arrived and had to strip right down and given like a tea towel that hung through silk cord round their waist
he said to the other boys i am keeping my underpants on, so they all did
The party was at the TV whore Vanesse Feltz house
about 60 people were there, a lot of jewish women in their 50s and 60s, several were quite inebriated
and kept laughingly lifting the boys togas but were disappointed they were all wore under pants
the boys were handing out drinks and food
a proper chef was kept busy in the kitchen
the boys at the end of the evening did a kind of short can-can dance, apparently Feltz language was disgusting, Diana Abbott was drunk
the boys were promised 45 pounds each for the evening but were only paid 35
to cover travel expenses
It looks like someone (cough! cough!) is getting a good a$$- kickin’ in the vicinity of Yemen… doesn’t it?
Here’s a couple of hints as to who that ‘someone” might be:
1. It ain’t the Brits… ’cause their ships are STILL “undergoing repairs” in dry-dock.. and the ones that aren’t are too busy with Dunkirk 2.0.. ferrying “immigrants” across from France.. 😏
2. And it certainly ain’t The Hooties… ‘csuse they’re the ones delivering the a$$-k8cking! 😂
Anyway, for a chance to win a pack of ‘Bazooka Joe’ bubble-gum send answers on a postcard to Peter P’s P.O. Box, Peterborough… post haste! 🤓
I would still like to know the connection between Yemen and Wales since I heard on short-wave radio some Yemeni comedians sounding very Welsh. It is the sort of place you reach when you leave Antarctica

Joe Rogan argued against tech platforms banning Kanye West’s latest song praising Adolf Hitler, noting that the millions of downloads the “kinda catchy” tune has racked up on X “kind of supports” the rapper’s views that there’s a “concerted effort” by Jewish people to remove him from everything West, who has openly expressed his love for the leader of the Third Reich in recent years, uploaded the songs “Heil Hitler” and “WW3,” another tune that glorifies Hitler, to X earlier this month. While Spotify and SoundCloud rushed to remove the song from their platforms, Heil Hitler proliferated across the social media site and racked up millions of views as people loved it
“Ye’s most recent repost is of a video mixing historical clips of Hitler together with his song as a backing track. He also shared a video on X of influencer Andrew Tate — a self-described misogynist — playing the song in his car. That video has been viewed over 3 million times,” NBC News reported last week. “Ye’s account is verified as an organization on X, meaning it could be eligible for monetization and ads. It’s not clear if Ye’s account uses those features.” With the pro-Nazi tune continuing to spread across right-wing social media accounts, Rogan attempted to thread the needle this week between denouncing West’s rhetoric while also defending the lack of censorship on X. At the same time, he argued that the song’s popularity on X could be seen as proving some of what West is saying about Jewish people.
Speaking to comic Tom Segura during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience earlier this week, Rogan brought up the song and quickly pointed out that it’s “kinda catchy,” prompting Segura to declare “that’s the problem with it.”
Noting that West has “never lost a step” when it comes to production, Segura then tackled the subject matter itself. “There is a thing where that song is like, what are you doing, dude? Like, what are you doing, for real?” Segura wondered.
“It’s the ultimate pushing back,” Rogan responded.
Segura, meanwhile, felt that “making a catchy song” about shouting “Heil Hitler” only serves to give permission to others to do that very thing in public. “Like, you’re just getting at a minimum, you’re just going to get more people that think it’s cool to say, ‘Heil Hitler.’ Like, that’s at the minimum,” he added.
“Well, I think that’s part of the program. I think that’s what he’s trying to do,” the popular podcaster replied
Rogan’s guest would go on to wonder if that’s “cool to do,” noting that while “it’s fun to troll the masses,” you are now going to “get less educated people” who think it’s “a fun thing to say” on he streets. “You really want people just walk around, be like, ‘you know what’s tight, man? Heil Hitler.’ It’s f*cking insane,” he exclaimed.
“It’s also kinda like the sign of the times,” Rogan insisted before going on a tangent about the “benefits” of allowing anything to be published online.
“I want to say this carefully because I…want to say real clearly I don’t support people saying that. I don’t think it’s a good thing to say. I don’t say it. I don’t think any racism is good. I don’t think antisemitism is good,” he said.
“There’s a benefit to just letting people talk,” Rogan continued. “Like let people say whatever the f*ck they wanna say even if it sucks. This is the benefit of Twitter, but this is also the bad part. It’s like the f***ing song has so many millions of hits on Twitter. It’s been banned from every platform. But is it good to ban things from platforms, or is it better to let it be out there and let people talk about it?”
Not exactly unsuccessful, altho expensive, shooting down missiles was good PR, bombing (anything) in Yemen was NOT. 2 carriers not needed or wanted!
Chump allegedly angry at Israhell, eh? Blew Up in Chump’s face, eh? Let’s be clear, if some satanic lunatic Chabadnik rabbis pimp-slapped Zion Don the Con in his garishly artificially tanned face with big rubber dongs while Satanyahoo pissed in Zion Don’s hair and directed him to shove a bagel up his ass, then Zion Don the kosher Kourt Jester would sit there and f*cking take it while that bagel toasted in his poop-chute.
A war that wasn’t a war. Hope it holds.
@ karen cook
For some odd reason I’ve seen no mention of that in the MSN, wouldn’t know but for your comment. Thanks!
