On one of the deadliest days in Gaza since the Israeli war began in 2023, air strikes killed more than 400 Palestinians on Tuesday, including more than 180 children and 90 women, in a matter of hours.
The attacks, which violated the ceasefire agreement, were carried out during the holy month of Ramadan. But they were covered differently in Israeli media compared with the rest of the world.
Avi Ashkenazi, a military correspondent for the right-wing Maariv newspaper, wrote that “Israel wanted to hit as many Hamas members as possible in the first strike of the attack”. He added that the Muslim fasting month “helped to carry out the mission”.
“The Shin Bet and Military Intelligence have prepared the addresses where Hamas members are supposed to be found and hold the night suppers,” Ashkenazi wrote.
Aside from the military perspective reported in Israeli media, the attack and its bloody results were covered without reference to the number of children killed. In some cases, all those killed were labelled as terrorists.
Three senior Israeli military correspondents reported the bombing similarly, saying the army targeted “mid-level and senior Hamas commanders and officials”.
Orly Noy, a journalist from Israeli news site Local Call, told Middle East Eye that the biased Israeli coverage of the attacks is part of a broader phenomenon.
“The Israeli media has invented alternative jargon to describe Palestinian resistance actions,” Noy said. “For the Israeli media, there is no difference between attacking soldiers and attacking civilians.”
According to Noy, this terminology has expanded during the war. “The Israeli media has adopted the claim that there are no innocents in Gaza.”
Noy explained that the Israeli media fails to report the actual impact of the attack because “the media is mobilised so that [Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu and the army can continue to carry out the genocide in Gaza.”
“It is a direct continuation of the Israeli media’s policy of concealment from the Israeli public,” Noy told MEE.
‘Terrorists eliminated’
Ohad Hemo, the Arab affairs correspondent for Channel 12, Israel’s leading channel, reported that more than 400 Palestinians were killed in the attack.
According to Hemo, “what a large part of those casualties has in common is their critical role, no less, in Hamas’s civilian-governmental structure.”
Hamo’s report corresponds with the Israeli army spokesperson’s statement.
“Dozens of terrorist targets were struck to hinder Hamas’ governmental and military capabilities and to remove threats to Israel, including numerous mid-level and senior-ranking terrorists in Hamas’ Political Bureau who were eliminated,” read the statement.
Channel 13, which is considered liberal, also ignored the heavy cost of the Israeli attack.
“The ceasefire has collapsed,” its report said. “In the Gaza Strip, it is reported that more than 300 people were killed in the attacks, including senior Hamas officials,” the report continued, without mentioning the innocent civilians who were killed.
It was not only the Israeli media that ignored the identities of those killed, but in some cases those killed were labelled as terrorists or Hamas operatives.
Channel 14 reported that “hundreds of terrorists have been eliminated”.
According to the channel’s military correspondent, Hillel Biton Rosen, “we managed to eliminate hundreds of terrorists tonight, including those who hold a significant role in Hamas, as well as participants in the release of hostages who were responsible for their humiliation”.
Ashkenazi of Maariv praised the role played by Tomer Bar, the Air Force commander, and the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, whom Netanyahu wants to fire, in the deadly attack.
According to Ashkenazi, the two “led a precise operation that eliminated 300 terrorists in a matter of minutes”.
“Last night at 2.10am, about 300 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists, perhaps more, had a surprise visit from the air force bombs that landed on their heads,” Ashkenazi continued.
“The flight was perfect, the operation lasted no more than 10 minutes, and all the munitions hit the target directly.”
He added that “the operation was nerve-wracking” as it demanded “intelligence”, “courage” and “professionalism”.
More dehumanisation
According to Noy, the absence of Palestinian children killed in the media or their labelling as terrorists can be attributed to another reason.
“The more Palestinians Israel annihilate, the more dehumanisation needs to be done to the Palestinians, because if this is not done, Israel will have to deal with the horrors it committed in Gaza.”
Noy continued: “The media cannot afford to portray the Palestinians as humane, otherwise the war will not be able to continue. The Israeli media is acting in the spirit of Communications Minister Shlomo Karei’s legislation, which prohibits harming the morale of the people.”
According to Karei’s regulations, the minister will be able to order the arrest of citizens who spread information that harms Israeli morale or is used for enemy propaganda.
It was not only the right-wing media outlets that described those who died on Tuesday morning as terrorists. Channel 12 ran pictures of senior Hamas officials who were killed in the attack with the caption: “Hamas was surprised. About 400 operatives were killed.”
Channel 12 and Radio 103 commentator Barak Seri wrote immediately after the initial reports of the attack: “The ceasefire collapsed tonight. An Israeli air strike on Gaza, the elimination of more than 200 terrorists.”
“Channel 12 has a pretence to operate within the framework of journalistic ethics and reliable work, but in practice they convey the same messages” as those of right-wing channels, said Noy.
“The average Israeli will take his information from Channel 12, and he perceives this coverage as facts.”
As a result, “Channel 12’s deception is even greater” than that of Channel 14, said Noy.

This is very poetic of the L*rd. Perhaps this infers stoves for cooking and heating from 200 litre steel drums, and use of the diesel fuel in vehicles and kerosene from aircraft?

Israel has become proud, but the world has taken notice as stated in Ezekiel 38:21. G*d has not forgotten. Perhaps the first time the Israel decides to unleash a well identified nuclear bomb, will kick off this event of total annihilation of Israel as a nation?
