The Visual Capitalist reports that the United States has more guns than people, with nearly 400 million firearms owned by civilians.
The outlet recently came out with an interesting map in which it ranks states by the highest percentage of gun ownership. It’s based on data from the Pew Research Center compiled by Data Pandas as of 2024.
Montana tops the list of the states with the highest percentage of gun ownership, with 66.3% of the adult population owning firearms. The state has some of the most relaxed gun control laws in America. No state permit is required to purchase or possess a rifle, shotgun or handgun.
Montana is followed on the list by its neighbor, Wyoming, where 66.2% of adults own a firearm. Alaska comes in third, with 64.5%, followed by Idaho (60.1%), West Virginia (58.5%) and Arkansas (57.2%).
The top 10 gun-owning states are rounded out by Mississippi, Alabama, South Dakota and North Dakota.
On the flip side, New Jersey and Massachusetts share the lowest gun ownership rate in the country, both at a measely 14.7%.
Two other states with very low ownership rates include Hawaii (14.9%) and Rhode Island (14.8%).
But here’s an interesting twist on the story of who owns firearms in America. Some of the Democrat-run blue states are reporting significant increases in gun ownership over the last few years. It’s happening in spite of all of the laws these states pass that are aimed at discouraging people from being able to defend themselves, should the need arise.
So it’s not just conservatives who now see the need to arm up in today’s America — an America that is becoming increasingly dangerous, especially in cities of 100,000 or more population.
You can agree or disagree with their motive, but according to the Philadelphia Inquirer LGBT liberals are reportedly buying firearms now out of fear they will be rounded up and placed in concentration camps under the incoming Trump administration.
I kid you not.
The new gun-toting advocacy groups, including the Liberal Gun Club, the Socialist Rifle Association, and Pink Pistols, claimed they’ve received thousands of firearm-training requests since Trump won the 2024 election.
“Three months before the election, that’s when the alarm bells started to ring,” a 24-year-old transgender activist told the Philadelphis Inquirer, adding that armed leftists will now be able to fight back “in the event of hate crimes or terrorist attacks.”
The activist added that minorities should also take their Second Amendment rights seriously, since “minorities that are armed are more difficult to legally oppress.”
That’s sound advice for any American, whether you’re part of a minority or the majority, liberal or conservative. Because it’s a fact that most shootings take place in gun-free zones where criminals and terrorists know that nobody’s going to shoot back

In saying that I am all for gun ownership for self defence. Guns don’t kill people. Monsters kill people. Look no further than the “covid” crap.

The number one reason to own a gun is to protect yourself from the criminally insane governments. Those states who are banning guns will experience crime through the roof, a government that coddles criminals is no different than if they order criminals to assault you. The bottom line is that the government is just people, and if the wrong people get in charge, they create a deadly situation where you need a gun, but you will be hard pressed to get one.
Seeing what is happening in Gaza is believing what governments are capable of. At any time the government may decide to burn your town to the ground or bring in tens of thousands of violent turd world Somalies and let them loose to rape your women and eat your cats.
Every Libertarian book I’ve read over the past 40 years is truth about the state – the state is the greatest evil every conceived – where some men get the power to rule over others – which has a predictable result – the nature of power is that it attracts the worst of the worst who want it – resulting in utter devastation.
I would like to remind everyone how we warned you about Trump. Before Trump has been sworn in he has abandoned every campaign promise. The United States is sitting on a ticking debt time bomb, every 90 days another TRILLION is added to the national debt. Eventually interest rates will have to skyrocket to attract the capital to keep Uncle Shmule solvent. No one in the District of Criminals has any fiscal discipline, they are unable to balance their budget, slow down spending, pay off the debt. Big spender Trump will only make it worse, he wants to buy Greenland and annex Canada.

These figures may not reflect the true percentages, as the Pew Research numbers were gathered by means of surveys of private owners rather than from records of permits obtained. Even then the figures would not be accurate owing to the fact that some states don’t require permits and many that do only require them for hand guns, not long guns. Many people do not wish to advertise the fact that they own a gun or guns, so that may have simply fudged the truth on the question. The probability is that the actual percentages are higher than what is indicated.
Texas should be higher. Then again, thanks to the wokesters in the big cities of Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Dallas/Fort Worth… I don’t know anyone out in the rural remote of far west Texas (excluding artsy-fartsy wokester Marfa) that doesn’t own at least one firearm! When illegals roam….

Shucks, I’m as peaceful as peaceful can be yet even I have 6 firearms pretty much like everyone else I know who has at least one or two.

I’ve bought guns to defend myself from the LGBTQXYZ psychopaths. Never owned guns growing up. But these hormone imbalanced / vaccinated inhuman monsters made me buy a few 2 years ago.
The list was no surprise. The western states have big predators. Bear, mountain lions and wolves. Its a matter of survival. Rural and suburban folks in the east and midwest own lots of guns. In our case its protection from criminals and hunting.
The LGBTQ thinking Trump is goung to round them up ? What a bunch of hyperbole. The NWO wants them to think that. Divide and conquor. No one is calling for forced straight camps.
I hope all people come to be akeptical of what the government says no matter who the figure head happens to be. And agree to punish violent crime so we have less of it and not make excuses for it based on politics.

Yukon nails it in the very first sentence of his comment, “The number one reason to own a gun is to protect yourself from the criminally insane governments.” Gun ownership rights in the former United States were guaranteed by the founding fathers in the Constitution primarily so citizens could defend themselves against abuses of government. You know, like saaaay the convid-19(84) war against the people, the inside job coup of 9/11, rigged elections, or the protection racket system of onerous taxation without any actual representation (unless you’re a Jew). The problem is that most people are too terminally stupid to see the obvious truth or too lazy and cowardly to temporarily sacrifice a few minor comforts to truly defend their rights and their lives.
I will say that I do believe that the large number of gun owners with traditional values in my area, I am in one of the high percentage states, kept the “government” cartel from treating people like total shit here during their full spectrum war in the convid-1984 campaign of terror, tyranny, and robbery in that it was also another mass transfer of wealth. There are A LOT of gun owners where I am, many of whom have genuine backwoods skills and old fashioned values including a low tolerance for tyranny. Thus, there wasn’t one day of “lockdowns” here, nor did the cops force anyone to do anything, and certainly didn’t goon it up and kick people’s teeth in for walking in the park or trying to gather for church or not strapping a diaper to their face.
