A new Cold War brewing in the arctic?
Greenland, the world’s largest island, has long been a strategic prize for global powers. Its icy expanse, once a Cold War battleground, is now at the center of a new geopolitical struggle. As Arctic shipping routes give way to untapped natural resources, the United States, Russia, and China are vying for dominance in the region. Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about acquiring Greenland—and his refusal to rule out military or economic coercion—have reignited debates about the island’s significance.
“I can’t assure you on either of those two,” Trump told reporters, referring to Greenland and the Panama Canal. “But I can say this, we need them for economic security.” His comments, coupled with his son Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to Greenland—where he reportedly distributed hats reading “Make Greenland Great Again”—have drawn sharp criticism from Denmark, Greenland’s sovereign authority. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was unequivocal in resisting any advances from the U.S.: “Greenland is not for sale.”
Greenland holds a legacy of military importance for the U.S.
Greenland’s strategic value is not new. During World War II, the U.S. established a military presence on the island to defend against Nazi Germany. This presence expanded during the Cold War, when Greenland became a critical outpost for monitoring Soviet activity. Thule Air Base, established in 1951, housed nuclear-tipped missiles, early warning radars, and interceptor fighters. It was a linchpin of U.S. defense strategy, offering a vantage point just 947 miles from the North Pole.
The Cold War also saw bizarre and ambitious projects, such as Camp Century, a secretive research facility that experimented with nuclear-powered military operations beneath the ice. While Camp Century was abandoned, its toxic legacy remains, with pollutants and radioactive materials buried under Greenland’s melting ice sheet.
Today, Thule Air Base—renamed Pituffik Space Base in 2023—remains a key U.S. military installation. Operated by the U.S. Space Force, it hosts early warning radars, satellite tracking systems, and fighter detachments.
“Pituffik enables force projection, space superiority, and scientific research in the Arctic region,” according to the Space Force. Approximately 200 U.S. service members are present at the base.
The Arctic’s strategic importance has only grown since the Cold War. Greenland and the seas surrounding it are home to vast natural resources, including oil, rare earth metals, and fisheries. Russia has been particularly aggressive in asserting its dominance, reactivating Cold War-era bases and building a fleet of icebreakers to project power in the arctic circle.
China, too, has entered the fray, eyeing Arctic shipping lanes and resources. The Pentagon has warned of Beijing’s growing interest in Greenland, where it has sought to invest in infrastructure projects. “The Arctic is an increasingly competitive domain,” the Pentagon stated, highlighting the potential for China and Russia to collaborate in the region. However, the Pentagon is distancing itself from taking part in any military threats to the region.
For the U.S., Greenland offers a strategic foothold to counter Russia and China’s ambitions. Its location provides unparalleled access to the Arctic and North Atlantic, making it a vital logistics hub and a potential base for air and naval operations.
Despite its strategic value, Greenland’s future remains uncertain. The island’s autonomous government has emphasized that any decisions about its sovereignty must involve its people. As the Arctic becomes a new theater for great power competition, Greenland’s role will only grow. Whether as a U.S. ally or a contested territory, the island’s icy expanse is poised to shape the geopolitical landscape for decades to come.

“Greenland’s strategic value is not new. During World War II, the U.S. established a military presence on the island to defend against Nazi Germany. Side. in WWII (I rather like Nico’s interpretation of Waste Whitey II) then that second step above, rigged opposition to the “Soviets” aka Jewish communism, would not have been necessary.
I think there are 2 things actually at play here. They figured out that Greenland is sitting on a shit ton of valuable natural resources, and a coming pole shift could see the frozen wasteland of Greenland suddenly turn into a very desirable latitude…for those who survive the cataclysm.
The population of Greenland, all 273 of them, should resist with great fervor the Jewnited States getting their claws on the place.
For the last time —
This is all a diversion. People in the West started to get the charming notion that they could vote their way out of this.
So the guy who started that idea has to be the fellow they destroy. So he is already bogged down with nonsense about Greenland, Canada, and Panama — Next week no doubt he will pretend to want Antarctica and IT’s ALL A LIE.
They have to destroy Western morale. Destroying Trump is only a small part pf that. Wherever you are, check what’s happening. They’re after you too.
As if Tramp is making these decisions
No! and FO Mr. Lance Johnson. You think that with your views on other issue you would be less susceptible to the false dichotomies being perpetrated by the ruling powers and especially the huge protection racked being played against us by the powers which run both Russia and the US.
If the US already has a base on Greenland allegedly there for defense (against Russia which compared to the West does not have a pot to pee in) or now a base for alleged “space exploration” then on what fucking basis does it need to OWN the entire territory, other than its control-freak aspirations and greed?
Trump on behalf of the US wants more Real Estate and like what it has recently done throughout Middle East over past decades, and especially more recently with its partner in arms – Russia – in both the Ukraine and Syria, it has no intention of paying for any new acquisitions.
Also, NO! They people in Greenland and Canada do not want to be a part of the US and share its carnage and globe stomping efforts, or to be any part of its corruption, crime or dysfunctionalism.
This guy Lance Johnson is not really a truther because his religion is that of exclusive Ameerikanism in the worship of money and mammon in the name of freedom which covers all forms of stealth, extortion, war, and plundering. He actually is bending over backwards to see Russia as a real threat, which it just is not>
“Russia sees Trump’s Greenland proposal as MILITARY THREAT, as Russia stealthily carries out their military objectives in the arctic”, Lance Johnson, Jan. 10, 2025 https://www.naturalnews.com/2025-01-10-russia-sees-trumps-greenland-proposal-as-military-threat.html
Trump’s intimidating advances against so-called “friendly” and “allied” nations will in any case only hasten the dissolution of US powers, because most nations are still outside of is orb of controls and they will in effect have far less trust in making any deals with the US and falling under any of its controls. Trump will show that the US in its essence is an avaricious and lawless nation, with an exclusive constitution in which other nations and peoples have no rights or integrity, or even to be respected except to serve the pragmatic interests of the US. Where the Biden & Obama administration abuses served unintentionally to help create the truth movement and push-back against “unilateral” globalism, the Trump administration is actually advancing “multi-lateral” globalism between the superpowers, carving up the globe, and that resulting fallout will in effect likely breath more life into the unilateral cause to simply dissolve nations and borders. That is the way the alternatives are being fixed by the imperious financiers who have spawned the entire NWO globalist movement, which is just one more false dichotomy being imposed on the people of the world.
In effect, we are being socially engineered with the old sales trick of subordinating the question of whether we would like our globalist New World Order to be under one absolute top-down centralized order, or under a less centralized top-down order where the absolute powers governing our lives are centralized under the various superpower nations (coincidentally the very same nations which have UN veto powers). It is like being asked by a car salesman before you have any real intention of buying a certain car if you would like it either in the electric or the gas version, so that all that remains to dicker over is the price. In the case of globalism, the alternatives are being controlled by the same powers, who simply want to carve up the planet according their own plans and interests, gobbling up one nation after another on their way. However, unlike with sales we are not even being given a choice. We are being told that whether or not we want our globalist poison with or without jam, and that we are going to have to eat it and like it. To Trump what MAGA really means is More And Greater Acquisitions for the US and Americans at the expense of the rest of the world.
Whatever happened to the self-determination of nations, with the Rule of Law and the respect for the sovereignty rights of other nations.
In any case, all aspects of globalism presented to us by the top-down order and their superpower constructs in their unilateral and multilateral forms are contrary to the Christian neighbor principle as they violate the respect for and sovereign rights of both individual nations and individual persons. As for the unilateral UN Agendas supported by their various manufactured and fake crises and false sustainability pretexts, each and every superpower, and especially the US, have led the way, and ought to be liable to the rest of us for the massive frauds.
Naaaw, there’s no way the U.S already has several military installations there. Nope, no way.
Trump is worse than Biden because part of his brain still works.
At work I heard ONEplausible theory: Trump’s BS machine is revved up to think he really can afford to expand the US. In this way no one will much notice when he actually does try mass deportations.
I hate to say it makes sense, but it does.
I should point out that the USA is coming apart at the seams, so — no, there will be no additional territory added.
Trump is trolling this time. As opposed to being trolled. MAYBE.
