It’s the typical Asian obsession with foreign idioms. Be it the European classical repertoire, or in this case, the ‘blues’, which I imagine/hope this kid doesn’t even have. Yes, the slight atonality of the ‘bent’ notes is completely reminiscent of B.B. King. Now what? He won’t be gigging his ‘blues’ in various nightclubs, let alone Sing-Sing prison or Las Vegas. Vegas ‘blues’ now being the domain of rich white men with expensive suits and massive Les Paul collections ala Joe Bonamassa.
This is not making a case for reincarnation, just hyper specialization.

When I was a kid of three or four up until maybe six or seven, I used to pester my mam and stepfather for a guitar (I called them a tang for some reason) but they always refused to buy me one. By the time my uncle bought me a second-hand one when I was twelve the fire had gone. I didn’t even have the ear to tune it, and this was before digital tuners, so it never sounded good and I soon never touched it again.
It doesn’t mean I might have become some guitar rock god worth millions but I could have been talented. So if your kids or grandkids–I haven’t got any–are interested in an instrument you should consider buying them one while they’re still passionate about it, because a bit too late and the time for it may have passed.

I remember watching an 11 year Japanese piano prodigy with my dad who, after she finished played, said “watch, we’ll never see her again”. He was right, they have an very short shelf life. Once the parents step aside, they quit.

Like Stevie Ray and many more he played the local clubs before he hit it fairly big. $2 cover charge. Now and again the cover was $1 when he played at Mother Earth.
