I came out as a truther in 2015 with my 9/11 novel, Locus Amoenus. It wasn’t an easy decision. I anticipated being called “clinically insane,” a “dickwad,” promoting “rank steaming bullshit” by the likes of Matt Taibbi.
Among other notable left-leaning 9/11 truth debunkers, such as Chris Hayes and Noam Chomsky, Taibbi stands out in my memory as being particular angry, nasty, and very sure of himself.
As Taibbi writes in Rollingstone in September 2006,
9/11 Truth followers will doubtless argue that I am ignoring the mountains of scientific evidence proving that the Towers could not have collapsed as a result of the plane crashes alone… To which I’ll have to answer: you’re right. I am ignoring it. You idiots. Even if it were not the rank steaming bullshit my few scientist friends assure me that it is, none of that stuff would prove anything.
Despite his fairly recent road-to-Damascus conversion, finally realizing that “left” journalism has lost its way — and now supports the US Empire, the surveillance state and the censorship industrial complex — Taibbi hasn’t, insofar as I know, reflected much upon the deeds of his earlier self, when he was a rabid attacker of those who would report a few facts about how gravity works.
I want to point out that, in Taibbi’s infamous above-mention 2006 article, “The Idiocy Behind the ‘9/11 Truth’ Movement,” his main “gripe” is that truthers aren’t conspiracy theorists: he complains that, for the most part, they just analyze the physical evidence pointing to the use of incendiaries, and they do not offer, a “concrete theory of what happened, who ordered what and when they ordered it, and why,” which, of course, the engineers examining the physical evidence could not do, no more than the coroner who does the autopsy in a murder case could do.
As late as July 2019, Taibbi was still bashing 9/11 “conspiracy theorists” by associating the movement’s investigators, who had Engineering or Physics PhDs, with “Flat Earthers” and “Moon Landing Deniers” (yawn).
But within a year’s time, after he got locked down during CoVid, he started noting how the media censored commonsense notions about how best to deal with infectious disease. This time, he started questioning the official narrative. Not long thereafter, this foul-mouthed enfant terrible of journalism, this wannabe Hunter S. Thompson, became the target of his own kind of snark from his former colleagues.
No longer with Rollingstone, by September 11, 2021, Taibbi was making the connections between the “War on Terror” and the “War on CoVid.” Two years later, he repeated such observations again on Racket News.
Now, it seems to be clear to Taibbi why 9/11 happened.
Although Taibbi is doing useful work these days exposing how government and Big Tech colluded to censor US citizens, he could say a thing or two about that other kind of censorship — the most powerful kind: name-calling, dismissiveness, bullying. No one wants to be ridiculed in public. No one wants to be put in that hated group, the Truther, the Anti-Vaxxer, the Anti-Semite, the TransPhobe.
Taibbi was very effective at getting people to stay silent about an important historical event. I can’t help but speculate that, had more people been made aware of the 9/11 cover up, more people would have been cynical about government authority and fewer people might have taken the shot.
When is Taibbi going to admit that the 9/11 truthers were right? It’s not too late for an apology.

In his earlier days, he must’ve considered himself an intellectual privileged with a didactic bent. Did something change in him? Perhaps he took an introductory engineering course and realized his limitations (not likely). Or perhaps he found himself on the wrong side of an organized group of didactics more adept than himself at name calling and character destruction. In which case he hasn’t really changed any more than the classic faded beauty caught up in lost youth. Or, is he simply controlled opposition assigned to steer the weak-minded into false dichotomies, pointless distractions or grandly worded but ultimately untruthful versions of limited hangout (in the same vein as tucker carlson or noam chomsky)?
9-11 was a crime that needed to be solved. PERIOD!
The shitheads decided it was an excuse to murder Afghans, Iraqis, Libyans, Syrians, Iranians, etc. and install their stinking police state…and the dumbasses gobbled it all up.

Ha! I remember that day. My husband woke me as soon as the news hit. He shook me from a sound sleep:”Wake Up! Planes have flown into the twin towers in New York and they are burning.” I woke, sat up, and said “Well. It sounds like WE did it right this time.” It did not take much research to find out who had just leased the towers, who controlled airport security at the breached airports, who danced and celebrated, who got a massive insurance payout from Lloyds, and who benefited. Never believed the stories fed to me after. I like Matt Taibbi recently, as at least he was finally capable of discernment and was able to change, and become a true journalist. Not quite a Seymour Hersh yet, but progressing.
The idea a small airliner could fly through America’s capital city at an altitude so low you could throw a coin at it and hit it, shortly after rush hour on a Tuesday morning, without any of the thousands of people and motorists going to work or school and none reported seeing it, is just plain ridiculous. Many people must have raised this point and because none were heard saying it it has to have been totally censored.
Now one of the architects of that war-seeking atrocity has publicly backed Kamala Harris. Dick Cheney and by extension the whole Bush II administration were involved, and I believe because 9/11 had been long planned is why they stole the election from Al Gore. The security agencies under a Gore White House would have uncovered their treasonous plot. But many will still call these Nazis “Commie”.
I happened to be on vacation that day. As per usual, no radio or TV in the morning with the kids. I dropped of the kids at school, then turned on the radio in the car. While reporting on an airplane that hit the WTC, “There was an explosion reported at the Pentagon” came on. Less than 2 minutes later, it was “a light plane” that hit the Pentagon. Two minutes after that, as I pulled into the driveway, it was a passenger plane. I went inside and told my wife. We turned on the TV and were watching.When the first tower collapsed, we looked at each other and said “bullshit”. Later, we heard an interview with the architect who designed the buildings. He was completely bewildered saying that they were designed to withstand impact by a Boeing 707, an airplane of approximately the same size as those that hit the buildings. As former CIA Analyst Ray McGovern has said since that time, don’t be distracted by which theory, the buildings fell at free fall speed, which is impossible.
