A nationalist Turkish youth group attacked two US marines in western Turkey on Monday.
The marines, who were assigned to the USS Wasp, were assaulted in Izmir, with one assailant placing a bag over the head of a service member.
The incident was confirmed by officials from both countries, NBC News, Sky News’ US partner network, said.
Thirteen men and two women were detained after being accused of attacking the service members, officials in Izmir province said.
There are no reports of arrests or charges.
They are accused of being members of the nationalist Turkish Youth Union.
Video showed the pair being surrounded by a group of people chanting “Yankee go home” on a busy street.
One of the marines was restrained before a bag was placed over his head.
Other marines intervened, and no one was injured, with the service members later returning to their ship, the US Navy said in a statement.
The two marines were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett said: “We are troubled by this assault on US service members and are appreciative that Turkish police are taking this matter seriously and holding those responsible accountable.”
Suleyman Elban, the governor of Izmir province, said: “On Monday, September 2, 2024, at around 4pm, two US citizen military personnel in civilian clothes were physically attacked by a group of 15 people, two women and 13 men, who are members of the Turkish Youth Union (TGB)”.
A statement from the governor said five plain clothes US service members were “watching from a distance” and were involved in the incident in some way.
The TGB is a small, nationalist political party without any seats in parliament.
An account on X purporting to represent the TGB posted video of the incident on Monday, accusing US soldiers of “carrying the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians on their hands”.

If there is anyone out there who seriously doubts that it is Israel that is in the driver’s seat when it comes to its relationship with the United States, last week’s filing of criminal charges directed against Hamas’s leadership should be a wake-up call. The seven-count criminal complaint was filed in a federal court in New York City on September 2nd. It includes charges such as conspiracy to bomb a public space, conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization resulting in deaths, use of weapons of mass destruction, conspiring to and also murdering US nationals and conspiracy to finance terrorism. The document also claims that Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah have been providing financial support, weapons, to include rockets, as well as military supplies to Hamas for use in their attacks on Israel. The document’s legitimacy, though one hesitates to use the word, is based on the assumption that the US has a mandate to go after terrorists and their supporters, even to kill them, anywhere in the world when and if it considers it appropriate to do so.
To spread the good news of the new development, the malignant dwarf United States Attorney General Merrick Garland even emerged from his closet where he has been hiding since he traveled to Ukraine to threaten Russia in September 2023. He produced a video statement that revealed his thinking re the latest attempt to regulate the behavior of the rest of the world using American courts.

Politicians around the world may have to suck up to US aggression but their people aren’t so inhibited. It will send a message to US service members there are places they’re not wanted and must spend their free time aboard ship or they can’t leave base for fear of abuse or worse. It tells them in no uncertain terms we will not be throwing flowers in front of your feet.
That one incident will have got around every ship, base and boot camp within hours.

The only real answer is for Turkey to leave NATO. De Gaulle took France out of it in 1967 only for that dwarf Sarkhozy to put France back in 40 years later.
Once you’re in NATO you have American occupation forces in your country controlling your foreign (war) policy, decided the brand of democracy you can have and allowing its personnel to do what they like inside your country without local law applying.
