The problem for all people who live in the shadow of volcanoes around the world is that it is difficult to predict precisely when an eruption will occur and how devastating it will be. If you live in such an area and have deep roots there; family, business and so on there needs to be a very compelling reason to just up and leave everything you own and have built up over a lifetime. Unfortunately, that compelling reason may become evident too late. However, if you do go now and nothing happens, what do you do then? It’s quite possible that nothing serious will happen in this region in the next several years or decades even. That’s the nature of the situation. Uncertainty. Where do three or four million people go anyway?
