Extreme misogyny will be treated as a form of terrorism for the first time under government plans, it was reported.
Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, has ordered a review of the counter-terrorism strategy to address violence against women and girls and identify gaps in current legislation and examine emerging ideologies, according to the Sunday Telegraph.
Under the proposals, teachers would be legally required to refer pupils they suspect of extreme misogyny to Prevent, the UK government’s counter-terror programme.
Cooper told the Telegraph: “For too long, governments have failed to address the rise in extremism, both online and on our streets, and we’ve seen the number of young people radicalised online grow. Hateful incitement of all kinds fractures and frays the very fabric of our communities and our democracy.”
The Labour MP added: “Action against extremism has been badly hollowed out in recent years, just when it should have been needed most.
“That’s why I have directed the Home Office to conduct a rapid analytical sprint on extremism, to map and monitor extremist trends, to understand the evidence about what works to disrupt and divert people away from extremist views, and to identify any gaps in existing policy which need to be addressed to crack down on those pushing harmful and hateful beliefs and violence.
“That work will underpin a new strategic approach to countering extremism from government, working closely with communities to build consensus and impetus for our plans.”
The review is expected to be completed this autumn as part of a new counter-extremism strategy which is set to be unveiled by the Home Office next year.
There are several extremism categories ranked by the Home Office including “incel”, or “involuntarily celibate”, an online subculture in which a misogynistic worldview is promoted by men who blame women for their lack of sexual opportunities.
Last month, a senior police officer warned that online influencers like Andrew Tate could radicalise young men and boys into extreme misogyny in the same way terrorists draw in their followers.
Deputy chief constable Maggie Blyth, national lead for policing violence against women and girls (VAWG), said the influencing of young boys online is “quite terrifying”.
She said the Online Safety Act needs to go further and that faster action should be taken to protect children.
Blyth said senior officers who focus on violence against women and girls are in contact with counter-terrorism teams to look at the risk of young men being radicalised.
She said: “We know that some of this is also linked to radicalisation of young people online, we know the influencers, Andrew Tate, the element of influencing of particularly boys, is quite terrifying and that’s something that both the leads for counter-terrorism in the country and ourselves from a VAWG perspective are discussing.”
The National Police Chiefs’ Council published a report on violence against women and girls, framing it as a national emergency.
Tate is currently awaiting trial in Romania over allegations of rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. He denies the charges.
Last year, counter-extremism workers warned of a rise in the number of cases being referred to them by schools concerned about the influence of Tate.
Incidents included the verbal harassment of female teachers or other pupils and outbursts echoing the influencer’s views.
One frontline worker handling cases under the Prevent programme told the Guardian: “He [Tate] obviously doesn’t fit within the Prevent sphere but incels do. He is parallel to them and has a crossover. When I’m in schools I find myself describing him, effectively, as toxic misogyny on steroids.”

The Home Office vs four asylum seekers: How taxpayers money was wasted on £350,000 legal fees
the Home Office has spent more than £350,000 defending the use of RAF Wethersfield as asylum seeker accommodation in court, i can reveal.
The department is currently embroiled in a legal challenge in the High Court over the use of the site, brought by four asylum seekers who had been housed there. The asylum seekers claimed the conditions at RAF Wethersfield were unlawful on six grounds, including that the Home Office failed to provide dignified living standards, set discriminatory conditions, and did not adequately screen asylum seekers to determine vulnerability before transferring them to the site, and meals were rather small according to their lawyers.
Data released under Freedom of Information laws show that the Home Office had spent £352,229 on legal costs associated with the case, which was heard in court between 23 and 26 July, as of 6 August.
However, the costs may still increase even more as the verdict has not yet been returned and the Home Office says the legal proceedings are “ongoing”.
UK organisations said the costs were “indefensible” and called for the site to be closed, as UK folk who were being discriminated against
What is RAF Wethersfield – and why is it controversial?
The former military base was converted to asylum accommodation last year in a bid to reduce the amount of money being spent on hotels, which was totalling around £8m per day.
But the site has been hit by a number of controversies since it opened to asylum seekers in July 2023.
Asylum seekers have staged hunger strikes and street protests over the conditions, alleging a scabies outbreak at the site, and uncomfortable beds while charity workers working with residents said some are not used to our washing and toilet conditions
Footage shared with Channel 4 this week showed a man threatening to jump off the roof.
An ambulance was called to the site an average of once a day in November, while fights are reportedly “almost nightly”.
And an official government report, warned of tales of “unexploded ordnance”, radiation and “spills and leaks” at the site due to its previous use as a military base, which it said might pose a “risk to human health”.
Although they are free to come and go, asylum seekers living at the site have repeatedly complained of being isolated.

The 800-acre site, surrounded by barbed wire, is located two miles from the nearest village, Wethersfield, though limited mini-bus services run to neighbouring towns such as Braintree and Chelmsford.
The costs of running the site have also been criticised by the National Audit Office. Officials said it would take £5m each to convert the base – and another base, RAF Scampton – but have ended up spending £49m on Wethersfield and £27m on Scampton.

The bottom line, that I predicted was the government would institute plans to reign men in, who ignored women and force them into relationships. Courtesy of the digital currency and social credit scoring system (they will bring in) you will see men fined for refusing the advances of women (because men are no longer approaching women, it’s women who are approaching men). If they continually do this their social credit score will lower, until they are either imprisoned, in their homes, or in a relationship with a woman, they hate and don’t want to be with.
There was a reason WHY throughout history there were no women in positions of power and authority. There was a reason there were no female politicians. There was a reason there were no female police or armed forces personnel. Now there are and they have shown (as men already knew) that you cannot have emotion anywhere near logic. With woman, at the helm, you get tyranny. You get emotional cops, unable to handle the situation, who immediately pull out weapons to defend themselves (gas in the UK and guns in the US). Women are a danger to the public when they have authority. We’re seeing that at play, right now, with Yvette Cooper.

A man recently jailed for his involvement in the recent unrest has had a GoFundMe page opened for his benefit and to which some have contributed so he can continue paying his mortgage. This will probably be a test of Keir Starmer, whose government no doubt deplores this, but at the end of the day people can still give money to whoever they choose. Or can they? The newly-installed British government says it will end the blame culture for the benefits bill, when to blame the unemployed for unemployment is like saying to cancer patients if it wasn’t for all you lot we wouldn’t have cancer. I think the real truth is the causes of the unrest are what has rattled them. We only hear filtered propaganda from the media, but the government gets raw intel from police on the streets, police in the interview rooms and what’s discussed in courtrooms. We don’t get told any of that.

A man who dislikes women may not be a bloke to introduce to your wife and mother but that doesn’t mean he’s a terrorist. I think the real plan is more outrageous action from this unelected government to put more men in prison or for longer. Saying things like “You Paki bitch” may be unpleasant to hear, but now it may soon carry 10 years in prison. That’s not about women, that’s about silencing.
JM Keynes said the economy is like a three-legged stool: manufacturing; finance; services. Take away just one leg and the stool falls over. I think the recent riots can be likened to a three-legged stool, but whereas the economic stool is supported by money the other stool most of us sit on is supported by shit: poverty and the deprivation it ingrains; economic exploitation of the working poor and those forced onto Workfare thus denying someone else a paid job; immigration and the harm it brings working class areas where most immigrants are sent to live.
I think the government was seriously rattled by the recent unrest and the occasional rioting that led to. It seems their response will be to get tougher in sentencing–but if recent reports are true they’re easing off blaming the unemployed for their shitty lives, then they know things can kick off again oh-so easily.
