In 2006 I was forced out of the University of Wisconsin for researching 9/11 and drawing politically-incorrect conclusions.* Ironically, the University’s unofficial motto is “fearless sifting and winnowing.” That expression is drawn from a famous plaque on Bascom Hill:
“Whatever may be the limitations which trammel inquiry elsewhere, we believe that the great state University of Wisconsin should ever encourage that continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone the truth can be found.”
Let’s break down that motto.
“Fearless” means overcoming fear of finding truths that you aren’t going to like, and that may even damage your career and reputation. It’s always better to set partisan emotions aside and dispassionately seek the truth, then let that truth form the basis of your emotional reaction, rather than let your emotional reaction dictate what you think is the truth. As scripture says, always “ascertain the truth.”
“Sifting and winnowing” implies looking through all the evidence and context in search of the most relevant items, discarding the ones that turn out to be weak, and highlighting what’s important. It’s an archaic “wheat from the chaff” metaphor from an age in which most people were familiar with agricultural work. Today, an honest and dispassionate search for truth may be as obsolete as sifting and winnowing grain by hand. But since I’m an epistemological Luddite, I’m still doing it that way. The July 13th “Trump shooting” is obviously the kind of event that requires fearless sifting and winnowing. The official story is brilliantly summarized by the inimitable James “9/11 in 5 minutes” Corbett:
On July 13, 2024, former US President Donald Trump was giving a speech at a (s)election campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, when a 20-year-old who was kicked out of his high school rifle club for being a dangerously bad shot climbed up on the completely unsecured roof of a building being used as a police staging area within 150 metres of the former president. Before shooting, that you man spent minutes fumbling around on the roof while concerned onlookers desperately tried to warn law enforcement officials of a man with a gun. The counter-snipers at the rally, perched on a sloped roof behind the president, scoped out the man (who had already been spotted by police and even confronted by one police officer) on the roof (a roof that couldn’t be secured because it was sloped) and waited until he successfully fired on Trump before they fired back at him. The would-be assassin died, as did a 50-year-old fire chief in the crowd. Trump, only grazed in the ear, boldly climbed to his feet just in time for a picture-perfect publicity stunt. Then he shouted “Fight! Fight! Fight!” before being led off stage by his valiant Secret Service detail.
That’s the official story of the attempted Trump assassination, and if you question any part of it then . . . congratulations. You’re a conspiracy realist whose head is screwed on straight and who knows even a little bit about actual history.
Since the official story obviously lies somewhere between wildly improbable and a complete joke, we need to start fearlessly sifting and winnowing, beginning by asking the million dollar question: cui bono? Who gains? Since we know the American oligarchy includes both pro-Trump and anti-Trump factions, the obvious possibilities are (1) a botched assassination attempt by the anti-Trump faction, or (2) a fake assassination attempt by the pro-Trump faction. As my regular readers know, I think the preponderance of evidence favors alternative #2.
But that doesn’t mean that all of the evidence for that hypothesis is what it seems. Two items of evidence I had cited in previous articles have turned out to be weak.
First, and most importantly, the claim by an anonymous “Secret Service ballistics expert” reported by the AP—that an actual 5.56 round would have likely ripped Trump’s ear off and caused a huge concussion—has turned out to be false or at least exaggerated. How exaggerated? Can gun expert readers help me clear this up? The AP expert suggested that even a smaller, less powerful handgun bullet that nicked an ear would likely cause a serious concussion, due to its shockwave, and that a much higher-energy assault rifle bullet like the 5.556 one that supposedly hit Trump’s ear would presumably cause an even worse one. Yet there is no evidence that Trump suffered a concussion.
I wonder if my gun-savvy expert readers can convince me that the “Secret Service ballistics expert” was totally wrong, and that bullets can graze a person’s head without their shockwave doing any damage whatsoever. Would you, dear reader, volunteer to have a handgun bullet whiz less than an inch by the side of your head, and expect to suffer no concussion? If so, would you also volunteer for the same experiment with an 5.56 round from an AR-15 at 400 feet? (Assuming, of course, that you could be assured that the bullet would pass within an inch of your skull, but not hit it.) These are real, honest questions. I don’t know the answer, nor am I assuming anything. The bullet that once whizzed by my head didn’t come close enough to settle the issue from personal experience.**
Another seemingly damning but deceptive item of evidence is the video that appears to show a Secret Service sniper firing the first three shots, the second of which allegedly struck Trump’s ear. I have been convinced by several astute commenters that the Secret Service sniper is probably reacting to shots, not taking them. If I’m wrong, drop a comment explaining why.
And speaking of astute comments, here is one that offers a seemingly plausible scenario explaining what really happened in Butler. It hinges on an aspect of the event that I haven’t yet written about: the evidence for a second shooter on the water tower. Is this scenario plausible? Why or why not? If you can find convincing evidence for or against it, please drop the links in the comments section.***
Another issue I didn’t address in previous articles is Trump’s apparent lie that “my hand was covered with blood.” Is this relevant? Why or why not?
And how about the Secret Service “dog that didn’t bark”? Letting a bumbling, autistic 20 year old amateur scope out the site with a drone, bring a gun and a ladder, and spend at least a few minutes getting into firing position in full view of witnesses who fruitlessly kept pointing and screaming at the Secret Service “there’s a guy with a gun on that roof” seems a tad odd. Even odder is the Secret Service’s willingness to let Trump get his fist-pump photo op, which exposed the former president to more potential shots. So who’s crazy: people who explain it away as incompetence, or those who doubt that Trump or any other Secret Service protectee would still be alive if the world’s premier protective detail were really the Keystone Cops?
And then there is the issue of the “magic bullet” allegedly photographed by Doug Mills. Were the odds against Mills getting this iconic photo, worth millions in publicity and even more as “proof” of the official story, really one in a million? If not, what were the actual approximate odds? And does the bullet path in the photo fail to line up with Trump’s ear?
There are undoubtedly more questions about the spectacular and spectacularly dubious 7/13 “magic ear shot” event that deserve to be sifted and winnowed. What, in your opinion, are the most important ones?
I’ll conclude with the words of Barrie Zwicker, a mainstream Canadian journalist who was marginalized after 9/11 due to his excellent work exposing the absurdity of that official story. I sought Barrie’s opinion thanks to another of my many astute commenters. Barrie replied to my email:

Is Barrie’s distaste for Trump misleading him? Or is it, in this instance, serving him well—like his distaste for Bush and Cheney helped him quickly get 9/11 mostly right? Let me know what you think.
*Prior to being blacklisted for my 9/11 scholarship I was never turned down for any of the many temporary teaching positions I had applied for at UW-Madison. My late friend and “Islam and literary studies” mentor Muhammad Umar Memon was a member of the first UW-Madison hiring committee that ever turned me down. That position was the spring 2007 “Islam: Religion and Culture” class. Dr. Memon privately said he and other members of the hiring committee were told by the university administration that I must not be hired due to my 9/11 notoriety. Meanwhile another insider, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Humanities Dean Howard Ross, became a whistleblower by publicly stating that I had already been selected for a heavily-federally-funded tenure-track Islam and Humanities position at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater when a member of the hiring committee with administration connections forced the committee to withdraw the prepared offer “because Barrett has screwy views on 9/11.” Ross alerted me to the situation with an email headed: “You were discriminated against.” (Unfortunately, discrimination on the basis of political views is legal in Wisconsin.) Rather than hire me, the university returned the money to the feds and closed the position. It was re-opened a few years after that, and a less-controversial friend of mine ended up getting the job.
**In February 2021 I was cross country skiing in the forest between Long Lake and the Wisconsin River when I felt the buzzing shockwave of a bullet at the exact instant a thick tree branch five feet from my head splintered with a tremendous bang, followed by a different, thunderously loud bang of a gunshot from off in the distance. Hoping it was a mistake by some lunatic hunting out of season, I yelled several times at the top of my lungs: “Don’t shoot!” Then I skied home and called the police. They spent several hours doing an investigation that consisted of knocking on neighbors’ doors and chatting. Late that night they returned to my house saying that they had identified the likely shooter as one of my neighbors. They said the shooting was a reckless mistake, that they had put the fear of God into the guy, and that he almost certainly wouldn’t do it again, but that if I wanted to press charges they could return the next day to search for the bullet and build a case. Since I knew the likely identity of the shooter—an ex-military neighbor with PTSD who occasionally annoyed other neighbors by firing heavy weapons in his yard—and since I had heard from my wife and son who knew him and his family that he was a good guy and even a supporter of my “conspiracy theories”—I declined to press charges. Later I befriended K-, who turned out to be an alright guy who will, I trust, have learned enough from the experience to stop taking careless potshots at shadows in the woods.
***Audio forensics evidence ought to shed light on the issue of how many shots came from where and when.
If you want to say the shock-wave would have caused damage to the ear, we can posit a bullet that did not quite hit it. What we have here is something I cannot describe in one word, where you take refuge in details and mislead people from a distance (like a sniper, incidentally)

Mohammed and two other defendants likely to enter formal plea next week over attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
The United States has announced plea agreements with three men held in Guantanamo and accused of plotting the September 11, 2001, attacks, including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
The Pentagon did not release full details of the deals involving Mohammed, Walid bin Attash, and Mustafa al-Hawsawi, but US media reported the three would plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence rather than the death penalty.
They were due to face trial in a military court at the maximum-security facility, but their cases have been bogged down in legal manoeuvring for years.
Karen Greenberg, the director of the Center on National Security at the Fordham University School of Law, said the deals were a significant development.
“It means a lot,” she told Al Jazeera. “It means that this trial, which has been put off for 12 years, will not happen. The issue has been resolved with this plea deal. It means the idea of bringing Guantanamo to closure is one step closer.”
Nearly 3,000 people were killed when members of the al-Qaeda group hijacked four domestic flights and flew them into the World Trade Center in New York, and the Pentagon building outside Washington. Hoax. No bullets, no shooter, no bullet wounded ear, no ‘dead assassin’. Total scam.
The “magic bullet” photo continues to be distorted by all of the liars in the mainstream media and on the independent internet. The original theory for the photo was that in a graze there would be trail of tissue, and the streak was on the other side and behind Trump’s head, not as in this fake photo.
In any case, there are some good questions raised in this article. For example take the statement:

However, if you have had any experience with guns and shooting at melons, then you know that even a 22 round can do more damage than a 308 depending on how it is hit. No one has said anything other than that Trump’s ear was “grazed” by the round. A centimeter closer to his head it would have taken off a great deal more than his ear. Also, if you study the photos of Trump’s ear since you can see a tiny furrow of some scar tissue meaning he likely had a scratch from the passing bullet.
The problem with any Sandy Hook hoax theory is that there were two people allegedly seriously wounded and one man killed. I would first try to discern if those allegations are true. If so, then it becomes a bit ludicrous to think the event was staged and the purpose was anything other than to knock off Trump. It is good to start an investigation with a great deal of skepticism and one of the first doubts one would have is whether or not there were thousands of people there or just enough to stage it. However, I have since found out there were in fact thousands of people there, something which perhaps the footage from the mainstream media does not want to give any real attention to. With the thousands of people in audience it would be virtually impossible to stage with the participation of Trump.
The real problem is that the truth no longer has any real authority and especially in the US where people who question official narratives are considered to be heretical in challenging any beliefs used to justify the nation’s power and rapaciousness on the world stage. Most people in any case appear generally more concerned in protecting or advancing their political or personal interests than in even trying to discern the truth, and it they set out on a mission to sift the evidence in an event such as this, then as soon as the facts conflict with their interests they quickly drop the mission.
Personally, I see no real hope in Trump actually being able to do anything to reform the US or to save the West from its march into depravity and totalitarian insanity. He was unable to be anything other than a puppet last time around, and as for the people he appointed, or was told to appoint, they either were complete duds or they were traitorous and corrupt. Yet, he is certainly no favorite of the woke and globalist crowd, and in fact they simply want him dead.
Getting rid of people who are in the way is the generally accepted way the power elites who run the US solve all of their problems. Those who do not use bribery, blackmail, intimidation, deceptions, murder, treachery, and whatever is depraved and works to get ahead never are welcome in, or make it to, the corridors of power. That is why we have nothing but shit owning and running the world, and the US being the most powerful nation, it axiomatically follows that it is the most evil nation.
The most plausible theory is that this was a planned assassination attempt and that there was in fact a lot more coordination behind the scenes between elements in the local police guarding the outer parameters and the person giving orders to the USSS personnel guarding the inner circle around Trump.

Otherwise, based on the evidence coming out, what you have is a complete lack of coordination between the local police forces, with not even the USSS attending a morning briefing with the local police forces brough in (which was unprecedented), such that when Crooks was on the roof and was pointed to by people and police near that building, and also could be seen by the USSS snipers stationed on rooftops behind Trump, they had no way of determining who he was. There obvioulsy were no lines of communication between the USSS command at the event and the local police forces and their communications centre which in fact was set up in the complex of the roof in which Crooks was at large. If Crooks actually did the shooting, you have to wonder how such incompetence could have been organized and planned or if it was just sheer incompetence.
Such a breakdown in communications is hard to imagine, but how many events do the USSS personnel have to attend in protecting various charges? Of course they are going to get slack, and expecting people making only around $55k a year to risk their lives in trying to protect people like Biden, Trump, Obama, Harris or a Clinton is a bit of a stretch. You would think that if Trump had any common sense he would not appear at such open events or that he he would use some of his own millions to ensure proper protection.
Perhaps the ideal outcome for the US deep state is for these politicians to be in bullet-proof plexiglass boxes for such events. Then if they are elected to seal off the boxes so that they cannot do any harm in disrupting their plans with any real contact with the people.
This article carries a photo of Trump which says it shows Trump’s ear has miraculously healed, though there’s no way to date the photo. They could be that inconsistent about it, though, no longer seeming to care as though the event is ancient history and long past anyone’s attention span. The article also shows an ad for a kid’s behind-the-ear Halloween blood pouch that squirts ‘blood’ when you grab your ear. The blood on the Don’s face that day does look it could have come from one of these toys.

The entire operation is looking more and more like a coverup where there are just too many coincidences with respect to the various oversights and failings of the USSS on July 13. The US deep state does not want Trump in interfering with any of their criminal plans in the Ukraine or anywhere else. Crooks may have been a patsy where the actual shooter was Yearick who was skirted away right after Crooks was allegedly shot with the ninth shot heard shot, allegedly heard from the rifle of a USSS sniper on a rooftop near Trump. He just happened to wait until after the 8th shot was rained down on the crowd by Crooks before he interrupted the second fuselage from Crooks with his shot.
That USSS sniper must have had Crooks in his sights for some time, and we know that Wilkes in the other team of USSS snipers said he did have Crooks in his sights but said that his order to shoot was delayed by his superior. So, where are the audio tapes of all of this? Where is the bodycam footage for the USSS snipers. The attack was a direct interference with the fundamental rights of US voters IN a major election process, and you would think that the public in a democratic country would have a right to know. Now “knowing”, and not just believing that the JFK assassination was an inside job with all of the agencies and police forces involved in the conspiracy (but obviously not all involving officers assigned to protect him), we can conclude that these US agencies have had a lot of practice working with teams doing the actual wet work.
If Antifa was hosted to do the wet work for a Trump assassination, that should not be any surprise. If the CIA was involved, that would not be a surprise. If the NSA was involved, that would not be a surprise. If the head of the US deep-state pecking order gave the order for individuals in the Secret Service to give their full cooperation with the assassination attempt they most likely would not hesitate for one second.
Media silence on Yearick and Crooks connections raises more legitimate concerns based on the fact that the deliberate and total lack of coordination and communication between the USSS and local police forces covering the outer parameter areas for that particular day was and event was totally “UNPRECEDENTED”.
Oh, “they want to prevent conspiracy theories from rising up so that they can keep the peace” – even though had Trump been killed there likely would have been uprisings all across the US? No, the last thing they would want would be for any person directly connected with any of their current agency and military training to be blamed for a Trump assassination. Crooks with a membership in the Republican Party was perfect. If Yearick was nabbed or identified as being associated there would still be enough distance from tarnishing any of the corrupt US agencies.
However, the word ‘corruption’ no longer really has any currency or meaning simply because assassinations, mass deceptions, pandemics, and wars are all parcel of the new normal and how we are ruled. No doubt when a young person is recruited into any US intelligence agency, they have to take extensive training in all forms of perception and deception management.
Also, and very similar to 9/11, we have to take note of the fact of how quickly the authorities scooped up all of the evidence at the crime scene skirting it away so that no independent parties, even from the Trump team, could really examine it. The January 13 event was a crime scene where the evidence was that one person was murdered, two people were seriously wounded, and a former President almost killed. You would think there would have been yellow tape everywhere and people guarding every shred of evidence related, and that for days, squads of police officers would have spread out trying to find every bullet fired allegedly by Crooks and then not one but the two from the USSS sniper rifles. There would have been an independent autopsy to determine when exactly and how Crooks died and there ought to have been footage of the sniper firing the kill shot. In any case, there ought to have been way more done if the agencies had any real desire to uncover the truth.
Also, it still remains a mystery as to how the USSS team in charge of the inner circle of protection (a team where they admit they had no proper communication with the local police forces in the outer circles), knew so quickly there was no second shooter, in order to raise up Trump the way and when they did all within 30 seconds of the final shot heard. If they had no means of knowing how many shooters there were and had any training regarding their failure during the JFK assassination, they would have been far more cautious of the risk of there being another long-range shooter out there or even a close-range one in their midst, and especially right after the separate sets of fuselages. Yet, just within seconds of a USSS sniper pumping a second round allegedly into Crooks, there is the announcement from a USSS agent protecting and covering Trump “Shooter down!”.
How did they know so quickly there was only one shooter in order to let Trump be exposed again when they raised him up before the crowd. If the people in charge of that particular USSS detail did not know there was only one shooter so very quickly, then why did they behave as if there was only one? If they knew there was only one shooter then how did they know that that without more time and proper communication with the other zones or outer circles of protection. It is as if the top person in command at the scene was thinking and saying, “Okay boys and girls, this attempt has clearly failed. Let’s clean up the mess and incriminating evidence as soon as possible, go home, and come back on another day for next try.”
As the movie wears on , there is little else to do other than wait for then act on the unanticipated.
The archaic “wheat from the chaff” metaphor would make complete sense IF our beloved authority that rules all plebs and global mechanisms inside their kosher casing that spins the magic coin would accept truth as its reality. Maybe Trump and the Dems are in it together. I first became suspicious when I saw video of him at his various phony trials and read some of the silly tweets sent out in his name. When I watched him morph from bored courtroom attendee to fake-ferocious victim, the acting became obvious.
There are so many inconsistencies about the “assassination attempt”: he could have slapped fake blood onto his ear; the blood didn’t splatter as far as would be normal; there wasn’t even a drop on his expensive shirt; it dried unnaturally fast, as did the blood on Crooks; he didn’t get a concussion, and so on in great detail for every element of the event.
As far as actually wounding and killing innocent bystanders, that’s what US wars and skirmishes and incursions do all the time under whatever president is in the White House. There’s not an accurate word in this paragraph. There is a complete lack of understanding about the nature of the energy (physics term) involved or its transfer to matter in your statement. In general, in this case, I would have to say that if you are a liberal arts major without extensive firearms experience: STFU. In no case, ever, will an average .22 do more damage to a target than an average .308, “depending on how it is hit” (another term making no sense).
Supersonic bullets do not whiz by. They make a very sudden crack similar to a very nearby lightening strike. And for anyone wondering about the 160 dB supersonic shock wave that t-rump would have experienced at his head/eardrum by a bullet moving 2-1/2 times the speed of sound (assuming this had actually happened), he would not have jumped up yelling anything…indeed he would not have heard anything, himself included. The pain associated with his shredded eardrum and the blow to his head would have been his entire concern at that point.

1. Under no circumstances can a .22 round do more damage than a .308 assuming they would both hit the same spot. I have no ldea what is meant by “depending on how it is hit”.

I have owned a number of guns and when I said a 22 round can do more damage to a target than an average .308, “depending on how it is hit” I meant obviously to any target including a melon. If a 308 slug were to graze an ear the depth of the wound would vary on the depth of the graze and if you hit an ear more solidly with a 22 round then obviously you will do more damage. What I was mocking were the pundits in their ignorance saying that a 5.56 round cannot leave a slight graze mark which is absurd, and obviously depends on how or where the ear is hit or grazed.
Also, it is no “shockwave theory” of a passing bullet, it is called a “sonic boom” and a fact and has also been referred to as “snick” by some of the sound experts. In any case, if you can trust some of the essential facts from an audio-analysis by Mike Bell on YouTube he puts the snick of the sonic boom from the first bullet passing near Trumps at .22 seconds before the sound from the discharge reaches the microphone. If you know the speed of the bullet you can determine the distance the shooter was from Trump with that first shot.

Shock wave “theory” was what lewis jones called it. I was using his lewis’ term to point out that it is not a theory. And the term “sonic boom” came from people on the ground describing the sudden noise created by passing supersonic aircraft. To call the noise created by a near-miss supersonic round a “sonic boom” is to do it an incredible injustice. It is often far louder than the muzzle blast and it is much more akin to the sound that a close-by lightning strike makes. And to call the sound of a near-miss supersonic round a “snick” is nothing short of blatant disinformation.

It would get complicated when trying to calculate the effects of variations in bullet speed and size its and proximity to the ear, the part of the body particularly prone to noises. Horrible details with too many variables, but here goes: how do you distinguish a “snick” from the loudness of the bullet as it passes the microphone; how fast is the bullet going when it reaches Trump (you need to know the distance that particular bullet was fired from), does the speed need to be 760 mph to get the sonic boom? When is the sonic boom achieved by a bullet, and for how long? With a whip-crack it lasts a very short time; it might be over when it reaches Trump’s head. An analysis by the Health Ranger showed me that it is not easy to answer all the questions. No way did he
