British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has followed up on his controversial election promise to introduce mandatory national service for UK teenagers with a warning that objectors could face significant restrictions.
The scheme, which would see youngsters volunteer with community groups or join the armed forces, was announced by Sunak last month. He argued that the measure would help revive the “national spirit” and provide “life-changing opportunities for our young people.” National service in the UK, previously introduced during WWI and WWII, was ended in 1960.
Speaking to the BBC on Friday, Sunak was asked about the possible consequences for people who decline to take part in the compulsory activity, which would extend to all 18-year-olds, male and female.
The prime minister suggested that possible sanctions for those avoiding service could include restrictions on access to financial services and driving licenses.
Under the scheme, British youths will be required either to join the military full-time for one year or volunteer one weekend per month at community organizations such as the police or the National Health Service (NHS).
Sunak has insisted that the program would provide young people with “life-changing opportunities” and “real world skills” and would help create a “shared sense of purpose among our young people and a renewed sense of pride in our country.” A pilot version of the program is planned to be launched in September of next year if the Conservatives remain in power, and is expected to cost British taxpayers around £2.5 billion ($3.19 billion) a year.
According to the Daily Mail, the plan to reintroduce national service was drawn up by Sunak and his team in secret. The authors behind the 40-page document have argued that it is necessary to expand the UK’s armed forces in the face of “growing international threats posed by countries such as Russia and China.”
Sunak’s scheme has been heavily criticized by opposition parties.
“This is not a plan – it’s a review which could cost billions and is only needed because the Tories hollowed out the armed forces to their smallest size since Napoleon,” a Labour spokesman stated last month. Other members of the opposition party have accused Sunak of trying to get 18-year-olds to fix the problems that the government has created.
Notice how older people like Sunak feel that they are immune from such service? They feel entitled to send the young off to serve, but how do they serve?
When it comes to war, people (including women, and the rich elite especially) in their 50’s and above should be first to serve their nations. People in those age groups already enjoyed the best years of their lives and are past their reproductive prime.
The elderly will become drains on society soon, if they die in battle they will not become drains on society, allowing the young who do not serve to have better wages and with incentives to have families (such as no babies by 35? You’re drafted!)
Don’t let these codgers fool you. You see many of these boomers our there on their bicycles and running marathons, and are in plenty decent enough shape to easily carry a gun or dig a foxhole.
Charles Darwin opined about the dysgenic nature of war, and how it makes no sense to send the youngest and most fit and with the best character to their deaths, while the feeble malingerers remain behind the lines with all of those lonely, sexually frustrated women.
If we’re going to have a war anyway, at least leave a good stock of survivors with good genes behind to repopulate your nation with.
Sunaks statement is political suicide. It might appeal to a few narrow nationalists and the blue rinse-and-twinset crowd, but everyone else will hate it. So why do it? Sunak is a WEF frontman, so the only answer is that he is setting it up for a massive Labour majority.

I don’t believe it’s actually a compulsory military service they’re after but a compulsory (forced!) labour service. Talk of military service is palatable and floats the idea of compulsion to the public; but once it’s seen as probably beneficial it will be announced it’s a forced labour policy like the corvee system of the Middle Ages, a tax through labour. Why charge householders to pay to clean the streets when you can force school-leavers to clean them for free or else starve? This is what I think they want Starmer in to introduce. The penalties for refusal will be fines affordable to wealthy people to buy their kids out of corvee (as could a gap year), but too much for ordinary people to pay. Their kids will just have to do it.
It will end untold numbers of paid jobs, even low-paid jobs, because dodgy employers can just take on these kids who can’t refuse them. This policy will extend to all the unemployed as we’re in end-stage capitalism and it needs free forced labour to save it. I think this is why the establishment has suddenly turned on Farage. For a while he was a threat to the Tories, which was useful to Starmer–but now his popularity threatens Starmer and the forced labour (national service) regime they want him to bring in.

Suffice to say, IMO economies have enough overall income to pay a dividend or basic income and allow people to avoid means testing. Means testing and surveillance form part of the remit of the Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC, that might “hope” to steer any move to do this among a population with less job security. TPTB have always had a curious fetish about “full employment” while not questioning the vast economic rents being claimed by private individuals. It is possible to at least conceive of a population given their rightful due. Indeed a basic income would incentivise people to work on what they wanted rather than be compelled to work in some half-hearted Soviet workfare scheme. That there is a “black economy” is a reflection of poor law.
The real question is about genuine freedom and not compulsion. Apparent compulsion — maybe real compulsion if you factor in media brainwashing — had a say in the Scamdemic and poison jab. Curiously, I believe while TPTB relay more on brainwashing through emotions like fear to get their way, there may be more freedom for genuine free thinkers to go with their God-given conscience. The state can certainly dispatch “muscle” to coerce individual citizens, but I believe a certain detente has occurred between TPTB and say 5-10% of the population; we can’t do anything against TPTB, but there are still too many of us not paying TV licences etc.
Something else to think about is that the lower levels of the Civil Service etc. are ordinary people carrying out BS they don’t really understand. TPTB have to factor in that their minions lack the same psychopathy as themselves. I conceive TPTB use their lower levels like Mr Bean drives a car from the roof, with various levers and string, because it’s the only way he can do it.
