Iran warned Thursday that if Israel retaliates against Iranian nuclear sites, the nuclear “doctrine” in Tehran could change, in an apparent threat to begin nuclear weapons production in the event of escalation.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Brig. Gen. Ahmad Haghtalab, commander of the unit responsible for nuclear sites, issued the threat in a Thursday interview with state-run media Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) ahead of a potential Israeli counter-attack on Iran.
If Israel “intends to resort to the threat of attacking our nuclear facilities as a means to put pressure on Iran, reviewing the current doctrine and nuclear policies of the Islamic Republic and distancing from past considerations is possible and conceivable,” Haghtalab told IRNA.
The threat highlights how tensions are continuing to spiral in the aftermath of an Iranian attack on Israel last weekend.
Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones on the country, and though Israeli and allied forces shot down almost all of them, Israel has reportedly decided to retaliate for the attempted strike.
Israeli officials have not signaled how, when or where they would strike back against Iran, and officially Israel has not announced any impending action.
Iran is vowing a much harsher response should Israel retaliate. Haghtalab said Thursday that nuclear sites were protected and forces were “ready to counter any threats.”
“To respond to their possible action, we have fingers on the trigger to launch powerful missiles to destroy the identified targets,” he told IRNA.
Iran does not officially possess nuclear weapons, though Tehran has been enriching uranium at levels closer to weapons production since a nuclear deal fell apart in 2018 after former President Trump withdrew from the pact.
The deal had given Iran sanctions relief in return for Tehran not pursuing nuclear weapons, and the Biden administration pursued unofficial talks in the beginning of the administration to revive such a pact. Those talks ultimately died out.
A March Congressional Research Service report said Iran now has the capacity to build nuclear weapons at any time but has halted the process. The International Atomic Energy Agency has also warned that Iran continues to enrich uranium beyond commercial and practical use.

The two prior Iranian regimes under Mohammed Mosaddeq and the Shah were removed as a result of CIA interference. Islamic Iran traded oil for guns with Israel during the Iran-Iraq war. The current regime descended from Ayatollah Khomeini was put in place by the American deep state. I recall that Iran has been part and parcel of the international drug trade – so much for any genuine Islamic principles. A death of a senior Iranian commander with a more belligerent stance towards Israel than Iran’s current leadership in recent years was suspicious IMO. If Iran was a threat to Israel/USA, why not remove its leaders in the same way as it removed others? Unless of course the leaders are doing exactly as the script demands.
Once you learn of the non-existence of nukes, it is something you can’t unlearn. The Iranian leaders and many others, including Putin, are playing out a script for the “benefit” of their captive populations. Any true leaders genuinely opposing the international world order instead of playing along with the nuke fiction would call BS on it. It’s all theatre. More so now than ever, and one reason I believe is because of the entanglement of international capital while prescribing the sacrifice of the ordinary wage earning cannon fodder for the visible game — e.g. Ukraine — nevertheless, is mindful that investment is across borders now. Like Bomber command that avoided bombing American-German subsidiaries during WWII, the diversity of investments is even greater.
“International relations” as Orwell described, aren’t about genuine conflict — except for the sacrifice of cannon fodder — they are about the continuity of existing regimes. We live in transnational world, not a world where nations are self-contained and playing in some sort of analogue of the World Cup. It’s all about the threads of ownership of land and capital, not the boundaries of rivers, mountains, and the singular colour of a political map to differentiate borders of a “nation”. The traditional view is the illusory view. It is the view that the holding companies of international capital, known as “governments”, perpetuate.
I keep reiterating this point. Iran has at least two big dirty Soviet era nukes, and they can put all the components together at short notice.
As to these Soviet era nukes, we don’t know where they are. Many have suggested one of them could be in the US, as there’s been quite a few threats suggesting the ‘Great Satan’ would get a nasty surprise on home soil, das fatherland…
Aside from Israeli nukes, if they actually exist. Israel now knows that can’t take on Iran, and the US won’t help, because there’s around 10,000 US military sheeple in the region, and all the US hardware, and all very easy for Iran to hit.
Very hard to see anyone telling the truth about this attack on Iran, but take note, nearly all the so say, reliable pundits are saying Irans attack on Israel was a failure. They are being told to say this, although I’ve not heard Ritter change his spots, just yet.
So there is a limit to Israeli power over the US. As I said days ago, it’s not a tail wagging the dog, and aside from Israel and the Nazi war mongers in Amerika, there’s the Russian and Chinese angle to consider.
Bibi is now pasted his sell by date, but much worse monsters will follow.
Love how thus article reads 300 drones sent by Iran yet does not mention why Iran attacked. Now every news article that I have read on here, when it talks about isreali boming gaza there is always a follow up with “this Wad a response to the attacks on isreal on 7th October. Double up double up standards standards.
Here’s the opening of the latest Human Immolation Protest outside the courthouse where Trump is either performing or being railroaded, take your pick.
