Paul Craig Roberts – paulcraigroberts.org April1, 2024
One thing that we know with certainty about our time is that no Western government represents the people it rules.
Western governments represent the interests of those whose campaign contributions elect the government. The government is simply purchased by campaign contributors. It is not a government in the sense of the word used by Thomas Jefferson and Albert Jay Nock. In the United States, the Supreme Court has legalized the purchase of the government by special interests who use government for their agendas. The Supreme Court actually ruled that it is a First Amendment right to purchase the government.
Elsewhere in the Western world it is even worse, because the governments must first represent Washington’s interest. As representing Washington seldom conforms to their interests, no Western government has the support of the people.
I recently posted the approval ratings of the German chancellor, the British prime minister, and the French president, and they were even lower than Biden’s. The German chancellor has an approval rating of 17% In other words, 83% of Germans disapproved. Yet he rules them.
Everywhere in Europe approval ratings are disapproval ratings with European leaders disapproved by 65 to 70% of the populations.
How can this be called democracy? It can’t.
Albert Jay Nock told us the truth of our situation in 1935 in the most important book describing the American political system that has ever been written. If you read and understand Nock’s book and read a couple of Charles Beard’s political histories of the US, you will have a very clear understanding why freedom in America is being extinguished.
Albert Jay Nock distinguishes between social power and state power. Social power is when people have power. Then you have government. State power is when the state has power. Then you have tyranny. This situation is one in which government becomes privatized by powerful interests, including government agencies, to serve their agendas and is transformed into an unaccountable state.
Thomas Jefferson intended for the new nation to be governed by social power, that is, by the people. But other of the founding fathers wanted state power that they could enlist to privilege their pursuit of their own interest. Nock provides examples of this by the original founders. In my opinion, perhaps the best example of this was 60-70 years later with Abe Lincoln’s service to the railroads and support of the northern manufacturers for a tariff that would serve their interest at the expense of higher prices for the population. It was Lincoln’s support of the tariff that caused the secession of the Southern states and Lincoln’s invasion of the Confederacy. To cover up the fact that Lincoln was nothing but a shill for economic interests, historians invented a false account of Lincoln’s war against the Confederacy.
In the Western world democracy is merely an exercise used to convince the people that they are in control. I am not going to explicate Nock’s explanation of how we were doomed from the start. It began with the replacement of popular sovereignty with the state. Today unthinking patriots support the state at the expense of country and popular sovereignty.
Originally, state power grew by handing out special favors to support the interests of those who gained control of the state. Today the situation has greatly worsened. The state is used to suppress those who object to the special interest agendas.
For example, consider the massive repression of popular sovereignty. Websites, such as vDare.com, that point out the adverse consequences of the state turning a nation into a tower of babel are being suppressed by the state.
vDare.com has been explaining that massive immigration of unassimilable people into a country in the name of “diversity” and “multiculturalism” actually means the destruction of the nation. The ultimate effect is to eliminate diversity.
A country without an ethnic basis, a common language, a common religion and morality is a tower of babel, not a nation. The liberal-left and the Democrat Party have been turning America into a tower of babel for many years.
Apparently, vDare.com has had enough impact to arouse the state’s suppression of vDare. The same corrupt NY “justice system” arrayed against President Trump has been deployed against vDare. The state has now leaned on banks to refuse to process credit card donations to the vDare website. The purpose is to deprive vDare of revenues and to force the website to close down. https://vdare.com/articles/regime-suppresses-credit-card-donations-to-vdare-com-but-you-can-still-give-and-buy-livestream-tickets-to-conference-by-e-check-or-real-check
What libertarians who place hope in the freedom of expression in alternative media do not understand is that every alternative website can be closed down in the same way.
Where is accountability when free speech guaranteed by the US Constitution can be shut down by banks under pressure from the state?
Under popular sovereignty–government by the people–government’s functions are to protect property, free expression, and to provide justice.
Under state rule the function of the state is to deliver special benefits to serve the interests of those who gain control of the state.
The regime in which Americans have lived since the early overthrowing of Thomas Jefferson’s intent by other of the founding fathers is the special interest regime in which we live today.
The complete and total defeat of popular sovereignty has left Americans living a life of increasing tyranny, in which they are forced to pay in reduced freedom, income and living standards for the riches of the favored few.
America’s top 1% get $2 trillion richer: https://www.rt.com/business/595089-us-richest-wealth-record-high/ There is a massive difference between $11 million and $1,000 million, but both qualify for the top one percent. Multi-billionaires have many thousands of millions. The real rich are the top one-tenth of one percent.

Thomas Jefferson?
Spectacular bad timing here. Nobody cares what Jefferson wanted, and anyway he was all for rule of the rich. When the bankers took the USA and bagged it up as completely as they already had France, England, and Spain, there is no reason to assume things would turn out differently.
Roberts is a “monocausalist”. We’d be in paradise if if wasn’t for Lincoln? No, we’d be right where we are. He was just another pawn.
The truth about the American government is that the constitution that made it possible was a fraud from the start perpetrated by self-serving elites. The people were vehemently opposed to it which is why, contrary to the ruling principles at the time, the people were prevented from having any say in its acceptance. Read the history books, especially that written by Mercy Otis Warren, a contemporary who saw it all in real time.
No surprise then that the fraud continues and just gets worse.
PCR co-created the supply-side economic model Reagan and Thatcher adored and which made some men richer than some countries and rich enough to control western governments. He and his colleague did all this but now he complains about it? How come they didn’t see the natural progression of so much untaxed wealth, while those who did were called loony leftie malcontents? Of course they saw it–they just couldn’t imagine the greedy were quite so greedy they would take so much and leave so little except the debts.
It wasn’t an economic model it was the model of age-old pillage.
America is now a constitutional Republic with a suspended Constitution under Military Occupation. The miltary foundation is what saves the Republic ..
‘Democracies’ all end as tyrannies.
It’s very easy to now castigate Lincoln as one wearing one of the black cowboy hats. As a rebel born of my life experiences, I’ve always tended to sympathise with the Southern cause, but there is need for nuance as usual. In Bill Still’s excellent “Money Masters”, we learn how the debt free “green backs”, Lincoln issued, short circuited the bankers’ interest. It seems certain, beyond the usual lone nut explanation, Lincoln was killed because he refused to be a banker puppet. It also seems probable that John Wilkes Booth was not the one killed in the barn.
Four American presidents have been assassinated. Among them was James Garfield. Garfield made this statement a few weeks before he was assassinated on July 12, 1818:
“Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce. And when we realize that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few very powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate.”
There was an attempt on the life of President Andrew Jackson who fought against a central bank. After both of his pistols failed to go off, the would be assassin — according to Bill Still — said he was protected by people in high places.

One of the best books I’ve read demonstrating the hijacking of the USA by the Rothschild syndicate has been “Great Red Dragon, or London Money Power” by B Woolfolk. I would suggest just reading the first part of the three part book. The rest shows someone trying to square the Book of Revelation to his otherwise excellent research…
Here at the Internet Archive:
https://archive.org/details/greatreddragonor00wool/page/14/mode/2up
The author shows how in the wills of the various famous American Robber Barons, less is left by the deceased than was popularly supposed. These “rich” people have modern counterparts in the various “rich lists”, although being merely frontmen. Woolfolk further argues that even the Rothschilds — going by his study of wills — have been syndicate heads rather than being the mere power/money delegates we might often suppose. By analogy, the feudal system needed “peers of the realm” not just the “royal family” to operate the royalty racket. When previously assessing Rothschild, this I confess is subtly I had not appreciated. The Rothschild syndicate is to the real world what Professor Moriarty is to Sherlock Holmes’ world.
The Robber Barons, including the liked of Vanderbilt, Morgan, Carnegie, and Rockefeller have been useful Shabbos Goy. Other Shabbos Goy have floated these Shabbos Goy as the real deal in their efforts to keep the International Jew out of the dock. Of course the deflection from the world grasping materialistic dialectic of Judaism caused many Jews to change their names as well.
Paul Craig Roberts uses Hocus Pocus, he conjures up BS using his wordy magic tricks to deceive. He obfuscates the truth with cunning and does not define the culprits who are guilty of treason. Those who should be tried, convicted and punished. I call this pablum that will never set men free from the matrix. This is nothing but a hat trick by a con-man, sell out, a con game like 3 card monty. He plays fast and loose with the truth. The bible has many terms to define men like Paul Roberts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
“The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy.” – Woodrow Wilson
Considering most of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons…. Is anyone surprised that this tyrannyhas existed since the Civil War and before. It is the BILL OF RIGHTS (articles, not amendments(, not the Constitution which has purposefully been corrupted by these Freemasons, that We the People must abide by. Do NOT comply!
As a Canadian I cannot do much but criticize what has become of our political systems in the West. Also, in having read my fair number of books about Lincoln, like any politician he did own many favors to his financial backers but they all of them were his own countrymen and loyal to the US. He also most certainly did oppose the Rothschild money power taking over US banking system, as did Jackson before him, and Garfield, McKinley and Kenndy after – all three of which like Lincoln were assassinated most likely by that same ruthless money power dynasty.
Regarding the Civil War, Lincoln was an avowed abolitionist, and the Southern economy was largely depended on slavery. Most historians say that his election was the trigger for Southern-state succession and that Lincoln then made the cause of unity the basis of the war. It is doubtful that the North would have fought the war from the beginning just on the basis of the slavery issue. Lincoln also was a very pragmatic politician, but he did have moral principles. Looking to end the war and for a more moral justification he waited until 1863 to deliver his Emancipation Proclamation.
In both the Revolutionary War and in the Civil War the cause of liberty was central. Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were Rothschild pawns and betrayed their nation to that foreign money power and their agents who were ensconced in the US. However, some semblance of democracy did survive with what would appear much less vote rigging than in the present day. There is no doubt that the money power did corrupt our ancestors and that they did allow our nations to be ruled by special interests and foreign-financial powers. However, in the past two or three generations we have allowed their agendas to sweep away our moral virtues and beliefs which are the foundations of our basic rights and freedoms which untied us, and for which our forebearers shed so much of their blood for us.
When you see how divided we are with droves of people depressed, without hope, taking drugs, poisoned with bioweapon vaccines doled out and pushed on us by our government, while abusing and exploiting even our children, and the people being brainwashed every day with nothing but lies and fear porn, you have to wonder if there is anything worth fighting for. Why would your bleed and suffer for such as people as this? Why would any decent person serve a government and state which is the prime force of corrupting in our midst?
However, if you agree with PCR and are a decent and responsible person then there is only one conclusion based on the facts that you that you can come to, and that is that there are some things worth defending and fighting for. The facts are that the moral foundations of our nations and of our entire civilization have been usurped from under us by a small group of people who have absolutely no morals and have been making our nations over in their image and exploiting us in the process. Those are the facts to which everyone ought to agree. These few did not let their minority status deter them from walking over our faces. They usurped the money power in our nations with their central bank systems and have been screwing us over ever since – not only economically but morally and spiritually. What supports their continued tyranny is nothing “constitutional” or “democratic”. It is raw and corrupted power and money.
The remaining fact is that to right things when things have become so seriously wrong, it is even more wrong for any good and responsible people to turn away and give up on their nations and allow the people to be cheated and ruined by these monsters. If the electoral and voting systems have become so corrupted for any decent person with common sense to rely upon, and because the same evil doers who have made the West into sewers of corruption cannot be dislodged from their positions of power by such civil means, then that very hour appears to have arrived to take arms against that very sea of troubles, and by opposing them – end them.
Is there anyone who pays attention to paul craig roberts ?

Correct. Have you seen the link in my comment about EO 13818 in todays TS article: “The west is having a nervous breakdown”? Safes you a lot of time reading EO 13818, one of the reasons mil. planes of all nations fly in 24/7. Only an Int. Coalition like in WWII can bring down this Cabal and that is actually happening all the rest is a movie where the key players are replaced by actors or playing along with the script, foreign keyplayers too as outlined in EO 13818 ..
@Peter Simpson
Thanks for the Mercy Otis Warren reference. There is cheap eBook of her writing. I will add to my zillion other books I need to read.
I’ve come to realise the “Founding Fathers” were more self-serving than nation founding myths would want to admit. George Orwell in his “book within a book”, describes the “Theory And Practice Of Collective Oligarchical Collectivism”. The notion of “George III bad / Washington good” represents the type of binary history that serves or furthers the need for people wanting done and dusted narratives of the past. I’m not saying Washington wasn’t the preferred option for colonists, but having said that I always find it interesting that such a few took part in the revolution itself, while the number claiming some ancestral reflected glory is immense. Only large land holders can command the resources to equip armies and leverage their wealth in order to command others.
The American oligarchics in framing the constitution, twisted the thinking of John Lock’s philosophy for their own purpose:
“The eighteenth-century British political philosopher John Locke wrote that governments are instituted to secure people’s rights to ‘life, liberty, and property.’ And in 1776, Thomas Jefferson begged to differ. When he penned the Declaration of Independence, ratified on the Fourth of July, he edited out Locke’s right to ‘property’ and substituted his own more broad-minded, distinctly American concept: the right to ‘the pursuit of happiness..”

paul craig roberts refers to Thomas Jefferson.
But he doesn’t write important things on Thomas Jefferson.
