Fox News host Jesse Watters recently shed light on Operation Mockingbird, an undercover Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) initiative aimed at manipulating public perception through the media.
This operation involved the infiltration of journalists and informants into prominent U.S. media outlets, to advance the federal government’s viewpoints and political agendas. (Related: MEDIA MARCHING ORDERS: White House orders media to cover up Joe Biden’s corruption bombshells.)
“Langley was laundering narratives to the press and into the public’s veins,” Watters remarked, emphasizing the extensive influence of the CIA on the media landscape. According to Watters, at least 22 American news organizations, including the New York Times, Life magazine and CBS, had individuals on the CIA payroll, serving as conduits for disseminating disinformation, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
The discussion on Operation Mockingbird was sparked by a recent acknowledgment from the New York Times, which acknowledged the existence of a “Deep State” network—a term often used to describe a clandestine group of government and media personnel working to undermine elected officials or promote specific agendas.
The newspaper portrayed this network positively, suggesting it played a beneficial role within the federal government.
Watters also referenced the 1975 Church Committee hearings, a significant moment when the public became aware of Operation Mockingbird’s existence.
During these hearings, William Colby, the outgoing CIA director at the time, testified about the agency’s efforts to embed assets within major media outlets, revealing details that shocked the American public.
This revisitation of Operation Mockingbird by Fox News underscores ongoing concerns about the relationship between the media and government agencies.
It raises doubts about the integrity of news organizations and highlights the potential for covert operations to influence public discourse and opinion. These discussions echo historical instances where the line between journalism and state influence became increasingly blurred.
The clandestine American endeavor unfolded during the early years of the Cold War.
This covert project aimed to sway the influence of major media outlets by enlisting and compensating news organizations and journalists. These individuals essentially acted as undercover operatives for their country, utilizing propaganda and subversion tactics.
Ramifications of Operation Mockingbird may still resonate within the media realm
Mickie Kennedy, founder of eReleases, wrote that Operation Mockingbird was indeed a real initiative orchestrated by the CIA in the late 1940s. Without veering into conspiracy territory, Kennedy said the ramifications of Operation Mockingbird may still resonate within the media realm.
One can only fathom the level of distrust that arose when this covert scheme was exposed to the public. Suddenly, friends and colleagues were revealed to be operating against the very principles of journalism they purported to uphold.
It’s akin to the fallout experienced when journalists like Stephen Glass are unmasked. The public’s already fragile trust in journalists is further eroded when impostors and wrongdoers are uncovered among the hardworking ranks.
What the government perhaps failed to consider at the time were the enduring effects of planting deceptive journalists to advance their agendas.
Who can forget the early 2000s debacle surrounding government-controlled information regarding weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Iraq? It seemed as though no alternative sources were investigating the matter. Despite mounting suspicions, it took years before a comprehensive investigation was conducted, revealing the truth – there were no WMDs.
When the sole source of information is the entity under scrutiny, verifying facts becomes an arduous task. One would hope that in the aftermath of a major scandal like Operation Mockingbird, measures would be implemented to circumvent gatekeeping and ensure governmental transparency.
However, the Iraqi War/WMD saga suggested otherwise – it appeared that no lessons from Operation Mockingbird had been internalized or applied. The media is often referred to as the unofficial fourth branch of government for a reason. Yet, when efforts are made to impede press freedom, trust is fractured across the board.

It’s been said: No news is good news. How true is this falsity!? Or: ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive’. We live in a complex world of lies and deceit! Will we ever find the light of truth?😒
The CIA will only be purged from this world when America collapses. It’s too powerful otherwise, far stronger than its own government.

“When the CIA holds the hand that holds the pen…The elite owners of the media feel it’s their right to think for us, and to mold public opinion to their agendas. Their Freedom of the Press is Freedom to Censor the news….
A million people died in Iraq, Libya and Syria because the press didn’t just report the news, didn’t just lie about the news, but they invented and sold the events that served as pretexts for wars. The author spent years in the Middle East, surviving an attack with chemical weapons supplied by US and German firms.
This book is a veteran’s guide to the media spider’s web. It shows how the system works, sharpens your common sense skepticism, and increases your immunity to the controlled media’s attempts to do our thinking for us.
…Ever get the feeling the media tries to manipulate or lie to you? You have plenty of company! And you are right — the facts are in. A world-class media insider has blown the whistle on what really goes on inside the media industry….
Author Udo Ulfkotte was a respected journalist for 17 years with Germany’s newspaper of record, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He begins this explosive exposé by first owning up to his own career, where he had to sell out to have the job.
He then reveals the deceptive tricks and secret networks of power within the media. How perks are used to bribe journalists and opinion makers to twist their reporting. How the tone of corruption is set from the top — play along or quit. How the long arm of the NATO press office enrolls the media to get Europe to support more foreign wars….
Would you be surprised to learn that spies sit and write articles in newspaper editorial offices? Which are then published on op-ed pages under the names of well-known journalists? Or which journalists receive bribes for their reporting? Have you heard how prestigious “journalism prizes” are a reward system for cooperation?
Much as “Heroes of Labor” were honored for writing the best communist propaganda in the former East bloc. Seen from the inside, the difference between journalist and propagandist isn’t as far as you might like.
Our nation depends on the media to understand our world, just as each one of us depends on our eyes and ears. The media are our senses. When they hide the truth, or lie to us, they put us all in danger.
You will see how whole countries are manipulated – and who is pulling the strings and why. Here is the bad news about the news: our idea of a free press with a broad spectrum of opinion is pure fantasy. Very often, what is called the “news” is simply brainwashing.”

CIA O
It is tremendously useful to have an operation with a specific title to identify it.
Obviously, this process is currently embedded in all Legacy Media but insidious because the manipulation is manifested across all ‘Intelligence’ Fronts and doesn’t have a convenient label to identify it.
But it is obvious from the way all News Outlets adopt or discard words and phrases in unison.
Many examples, of course, but the made up word ‘sexist’ is now usually replaced by ‘misogyny’ ( Misandry – the female equivalent – is, of course, never used at all.)
Black People are now dubbed with the ridiculous ‘Gone with the Wind’ style phrase ‘people of colour’, although some years back, the ubiquitous Benedict Cumberbatch actually made headlines for the egregious error of referring to black people as coloured people.
And there is the particularly annoying change from Kiev to ‘Kyiv’ – it is impossible for any BBC reporter to say that word without sounding like the insufferably self righteous and wilfully stupid Muppet-Puppet that he or she in fact is.
I put ‘Intelligence’ ‘ in inverted commas because, as a percipient commenter here pointed out, the Intelligence agencies are merely an extension of Organised Crime.
