At 44 second mark just BEFORE impact , you can see squibs / charges going off horizontally at bottom of stanchion toward water line.
When I saw the complete collapse of bridge , I thought demolition immediately. If that stanchion was taken out by ship, the two truss sections on either side would most likely collapse toward the damaged stanchion but not break off cleanly. Steel will bend , not break off that easily. Shape charges were used to cut the steel trusses away from outer stanchions. Without charges there likely would have been a V – shape collapse created by trusses with the damaged stanchion as the crux of the V. Also , at 1 minute mark , notice far right end of bridge on edge of screen starts to drop slightly before inner part of bridge totally collapses. That far section of bridge truss between the two stanchions to the right should have stood with no problem. It had undamaged stanchions on both ends to support it. The far right end was furthest from ship impact yet started to drop before part of truss closer to impact.
