Officials in Moldova’s Russia-backed breakaway region of Transnistria appealed to Moscow for protection Wednesday, as tensions escalate with the pro-Western government.
Moldova, a candidate to join the European Union, imposed new customs duties on Jan. 1, 2024 on imports to and exports from Transnistria, which borders Ukraine and is not recognized by any United Nations member countries, including Russia which maintains close ties to the region.
On Wednesday, members of the Transnistrian congress used a rare meeting in the regional capital, Tiraspol, to ask the Russian Duma to “implement measures for defending Transnistria amid increasing pressure from Moldova, given the fact that more than 220,000 Russian citizens reside in Transnistria.”
A short war in the early 1990s led pro-Russian forces in Transnistria to declare a breakaway state. To this day, Russia stations about 1,500 troops in the region as so-called peacekeepers, who guard huge Soviet-era weapons and ammunition stockpiles.
Moldova is working to align its economic legislation with the EU as it pursues full membership in the bloc. But the new customs duties leveled on Transnistria have angered officials there, who say the measures harm local residents and businesses.
In a declaration readout on Wednesday, officials in Tiraspol also appealed to the European Parliament to prevent what it described as pressure from Moldova from “violating the rights and freedoms” of local residents. They made similar appeals to the secretary-general of the United Nations; the European Parliament; and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Ahead of Wednesday’s meeting, tensions mounted after an opposition legislator in Tiraspol last week said the gathering could used to announce a bid by Transnistria to join Russia.
A spokesperson for Moldova’s government dismissed those claims and labeled the meeting a “propaganda event,” adding that there was “no danger of escalation.”
Alexander Korshunov, chairman of the Transnistrian Supreme Council, said on Wednesday that Moldova was “taking advantage of the geopolitical situation” and using the economy “as a tool of pressure and blackmail.”
He added: “Moldova’s policy and goals regarding Transnistria have remained unchanged over the past decades: to destroy our economic potential, create unbearable living conditions for our citizens … and achieve the dismantling of our statehood.”
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, also commented on those annexation speculations on Wednesday. “For several days now, people in Chisinau have been speculating and wondering what decisions this forum might make,” she said. “Well, apparently, the same panic gripped NATO.”
In a 2006 referendum in Moldova, more than 95% of voters backed the option of joining Russia but the ballot wasn’t internationally recognized. The U.S. State Department at the time called it a “provocative referendum” that “cannot be taken seriously.”
Moldova was granted EU candidate status in 2022. It was further buoyed in December last year when Brussels said it would open accession negotiations, alongside neighboring Ukraine.
Transnistria, which has a population of about 470,000, is a thin strip of territory located between the eastern bank of the Dniester River and Moldova’s border with Ukraine. The unrecognized state, officially named the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, has its own currency and flag.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Moldova’s pro-Western leaders have routinely accused Moscow of conducting campaigns to try to destabilize the country, which was a Soviet republic until 1991.

So? After Covid what is really real on the world stage? How can we trust anything coming out of the West, Russia or China – the so-called “superpowers” all of which nations are superpowerful in manufacturing absolute bullshit, and turning every nation they touch and interfere with into absolute bullshit?
Or is it that Russia has some magic with so many of its “citizens” so very distinct and exclusive in places such as Transnistria and Israel that they cannot blend in? Is it the case that with all of the Russian Jews who went to Israel after 1948 that they brought their Russian loyalties and their communism with them? That seems to be the case for that nation, so one has to suspect that the Russians in Transnistria are likely from the same red cloth of Father Stalin and Brother Putin and are not very good at mixing in. But without some external forces working on the people this does not seem to be true.
Dispute the disbanding of the USSR in 1992, communism or some form of totalitarianism is most likely still firmly entrenched in the Russia psyche, but that does not explain what is going on. However, there still remain the embers of hatred smoldering beneath the ashes of WWII which in fact were deliberately fueled and fanned into the roaring blaze by the Zio Jews and the US-led West, to what we know now as the Russo-Ukrainian war, in which the Ukraine is being slaughtered.
Now why did the West do such as stupid thing in provoking that war, if they wanted to spread Western woke and transgender civilization into Mother Russia? Could they not see how divisive their conduct was? No doubt that was the US DoD plan, but also as the evidence unfolds in the Covid debacle, the entire Covid PLANdemic was a US DoD operation, in which Russia provided its full cooperation. So, why such unity with the West in such a huge crime for globalist-government and totalitarian ends with the PLANdemic, with both the West and Russia infecting, killing and harming large numbers of their own peoples with bioweapon viruses and vaccines, and then in the same breath the same globalist regimes hating each other so much that they also have to engage in a very PLANNED and controlled war? It does not make sense.
One has to suppose that as a Russian ever since 1992 you would be continuing to live in constant fear of being conquered, raped and conquered by the Western “Nazis”, whose main objective ever since Napoleon has been just that, to plunder a land of unlimited plunder and from which your little group of maniacal oligarchs would dominate Asia, and die Welt.
Is it the case that Russians are so very insular and exclusive in places such as Transnistria that they simply cannot mix in better with the majority of the people in their surroundings and forget their ties to Mother Russia, or is it that ancestorial ethnic histories and hatreds have been deliberately stoked and stirred up by the powers for some other prearranged ends?
If all of the Russia bashing mainly from the US and its Jewish controlled media, which was well in the works before Covid in 2020, and the 2022 war in the Ukraine was NOT contrived with the Russians, and the West really wanted to conquer Russia, then NATO military and air power would have stopped the so-called “Russian invasion” in February and March of 2022. After all the US-led West did deliberately provoke the war. Now we see some 250,000 so-called Russians in Transnistria wanting also to break away from Moldova supposedly to be under the wing of Mother Russia.
Could it be that the Ukraine and area surrounding area are systematically being divided up by the Western and Russian superpowers? Ever since a few months ago Makow posted the story and the map of an ancient Ashkenazi kingdom right in the heart of the Ukraine and Moldova, I have become very suspicious, and have been waiting for a holy Ashkenazi scroll to be found in some cave in the area proving that God deeded the entire area to them for all time.

What ethnicity are the pro-Russian rebel officials? Probably, they consider themselves Russians. And presumably, it is the Rumanians amongst them who inspired their rebellion: Rumania has long had the ambition to integrate Moldova. But quite recently, Moldova had an ethnic Rumanian president. She had to resign in face of the antagonism to her for her ethnicity.
The dominant ethnicity in the Transnistria is thought to be that of the heirs of the Kievan Rus’, who had formed a medieval principality around Kiev, and are widely thought to be the early ancestors of the Russians, Ukrainians and the Belarus. But according to Paul Robert Magocsi (the only scholarly commentator on the ethnicity of the region that I know of) there are also the Carpatho-Rusyns, who are not the same as the Kievan Rus’.
In yesterday’s RT News, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban remarked, quite surprisingly and disturbingly, that he does not want Hungary to have a border with Russia. In the light of this blog’s lead article, he probably meant all of the following:
– he does not intend to request the return to Hungary of the Transcarpathia, which was part of the two-thirds of historic Hungarian territory that was severed by the Treaty of Trianon, and distributed to the surrounding states. Its return to Hungary would mean a border with Russia.
– he will not risk being dragged in this Ukrainiian war against Russiaa, even at the cost of passing up an opportunity to recover a small part of the lost historic Hungarian territory.
