Yes, you’ve touched upon the essence of Judaism.
My understanding is that some Jews in contact with Greek society did come round to a more spiritual view than was native to their tribal god. But old school Judaism is a materialist philosophy masquerading as a religion. “Reward” in the OT is about living to a big age, killing enemies, and having lots of offspring. Karl Marx, while ostensibly rejecting Judaism, still kept the materialist belief system.
When you reject “God” as understood by other belief system, it is no wonder life becomes nothing more than eating, shagging, and collecting gold. Concomitant upon this bleak vision is a sense of no life accountability. So lying, murder, and the remit of Deuteronomy to lend to the gentiles to gain power over them, is understandable. The antiquity of bankers or belief systems seems to somehow bestow an augustness that is undeserved.
Judaism is a very bleak way to view life. I have to add, I believe this is cultural rather than hereditary since the majority of the Self-Chosen are not originally from the Palestine region. Here is a atheist who has to use the ‘soul’ word in order to give his feelings any real weight.
Israel lost its soul the majority rejected the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, who was the real thing. Count me naive and I don’t care, but I have actually connected a lot of dots in my years, and it would take a lot more than Nico’s views to convince me that Christ is not real, or Christianity is a Jewish plot. The very basis in our civilization of our believing and saying that genocide, killing children or any innocent person, or ethnic land clearances are seriously, seriously evil and despicable crimes against humanity and God, is from Jesus Christ himself. It is from the womb of the Word kept pure and endowed to the Jews which enabled after a great deal of struggle and birth pangs for Christ to be emerge into the world revealing God’s true nature. It has taken we very stupid and very selfish humans about 2,000 years to form a consensus that evils such as slavery are thoroughly banned everywhere despite what the conscience of any slave owner says. These crimes are inimical to the person of Jesus of Nazareth and therefore fundamentally against the will of God. There has been no natural evolution in routing out this kind of conduct in our human behavior. We look around and now see more and liberties taken with the innocent and our own lives, and control freaks such as Harari rely on atheistic natural evolution to bring about huma decency to one another?
